I now have tried to record something for the first time:

In the main menu choose "Recording". This leads you to the recording
screen. Here it seems you can press the pause/play-key above the wheel
to start and stop a recording.

In my case the wav file was saved in the root folder.

I cannot find the configuration option here to define the recording
directory?! I am using Rockbox from last friday (27th).

The only way that I figured out to delete a file is using the file
browser. When the cursor is on the wav file press the context menu
button (the one below the wheel) and choose "delete".

Maybe this partially helps?
