Andree Buschmann recently committed to Rockbox a series of improvements
for iPods (and other players using similar hardware) which dramatically
improves battery life. Through extensive trial-and-error and lots of
testing a number of internal hardware devices which had been left
enabled were disabled. These devices had been parasitically using
power, due to being on when not needed. The good news is there is
nothing you need to do (outside using a recent build) to gain these
benefits, and there are no settings you need to enable.
