Is battery life affected significantly by having rockbox on the ipod?

If I go and purchase an iPod video 5.5 G tomorrow, I can have rockbox up
and running as well?

How do you work iTunes? Do you have the accessible iTunes interface for
this?

Hi.

I think there is a slight performance degradation when using Rockbox
however recent work has lessened this quite considerably. Remember of
course that your battery life depends on the condition of the battery as
well as your usage of the device. If you max everything out, enable the
equalizer, full screen brightness, etc, you'll of course get a lower run
time. However I think that with the current builds the battery run time
issue is much less of a concern.

Re: iTunes. Never having used it myself I can't comment on how it
interacts with Robkcox. However, my understanding is that one of the
aims of the project was to do away with any fiddly 3rd party software
requirement. To that end, I would recommend just plugging the iPod into
your computer (USB), and copying your music to the player (it'll show up
as a drive under 'My Computer' (Windows)). You can use the Database
functionality in Rockbox to order music by Artist, Genre, Album, etc, or
you can just use the normal File Browser as you would on a normal
computer to find a file/folder.

Re: Installing. This is quite simple You can also use the rbutil
utility to automate the procedure, and having used it myself within the
last two weeks I can confirm it works. You do have to manually copy
over the voice file, but this is easily downloaded from the Rockbox
site.

Sorry guys for the long post, just trying to convey all the points as
best as possible. However, I'd strongly recommend you visit the manual
for the iPod, go to www.rockbox.org, then click 'Manual' on the left,
under iPod select either the online or downloadable versions.

Kind Regards and Best Wishes
