Hi Jason,

It sounds to me as though there are certain times when recording is
not starting for you. The recording screen lacks audio feedback which
would help voice users to know the current recording state (recording,
paused, stopped). This would obviously be useful and has been
requested here: http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/7852. It may be
useful for you to know that when you enter the recording screen, you
will always hear the mic input - this is not a sign that recording has
begun. Unfortunately I have no real advice to offer you.

Regards,
Marc
