Hi Jason, It sounds to me as though there are certain times when recording is not starting for you. The recording screen lacks audio feedback which would help voice users to know the current recording state (recording, paused, stopped). This would obviously be useful and has been requested here: http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/7852. It may be useful for you to know that when you enter the recording screen, you will always hear the mic input - this is not a sign that recording has begun. Unfortunately I have no real advice to offer you.
