The idea is to remove any information not necessary for establishing the
context of your response. It's not necessary (and rarely desired) to
include 100% of the text of the previous message. This especially
applies to things like the automatic footer added to messages on the
list, etc.

As it stands, though, the HTML version of your message has your text
included as part of the quote, rather than as separate text. This makes
it even harder to read than if you'd just erased the message entirely,
as in that case people can clearly distinguish your response, and the
previous message is still available since everyone on the list
(including the public archive) received it anyway.

Try hitting enter one more time before beginning to type your response.
I'm not sure about your client, but this may help.
