It's considerably easier to perform the short-click of the select button, and while it's not vastly harder to hold down the Play button, it takes a tiny amount more effort. Whether this saved effort is worth increasing the binary size/introducing option bloat is not my decision to make by any means. I was merely attempting to explain the original request. I hadn't considered the player-in-a-pocket scenario and the fact that one button can be used for shutdown in ANY screen is also a very valid point.
