But they do have to be correctly added if you want them. You can use a tagging app like EasyTAG to check out and fix your Vorbis comments, and to remove ID3 tags from your Vorbis files. You can find it in the Ubuntu package repositories via Synaptic. Also, I know everyone else has told you this, but it's generally a pretty lousy idea to transcode lossy to lossy.
