Rockbox mail archiveSubject: Problem downgrading Sansa e250 OF to disable database refreshingProblem downgrading Sansa e250 OF to disable database refreshing
From: Peacenik <zenbones_at_sbcglobal.net>
Date: Fri, 07 Aug 2009 10:57:53 -0400 OBJECTIVE My Sandisk Sansa e250 updates its database every time I transfer files to the unit. This has led to multiple seizures (when a file prevents database refreshing even though it is playable via Rockbox). I thus wish to disable the feature which forces the Sandisk original firmware [OF] to refresh its database after file transfer. My computer runs Windoze XP. HISTORY According to the Sansa FAQ, one can disable the Sansa's database refreshing habit by downgrading the [OF] to version 15. The Sansa Faq located at => <http://bit.ly/2vnxVH> The unshortened version of the url is => <http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/SansaFAQ#How_do_I_update_the_ori ginal_fir> , In the section of the FAQ entitled "Functionality Questions / Can I disable the Sansa e200 firmware's obnoxious database refreshing?" a method is provided for downgrading the Sansa OF to version 15. My Sansa came with v18 installed and the current version is 24. Apparently only v15 provides the possibility of disabling the database refreshing annoyance. Unfortunately, my efforts to implement this solution have consistently failed. DISCUSSION The FAQ instructions call for placing the latest version of sansapatcher and version 15 of the Sansa OF in the same folder and executing the following commands in a windows DOS box. sansapatcher.exe -of PP5022.mi4 sansapatcher.exe -d sansapatcher.exe --install I have no experience with DOS commands. I assumed that one could only issue those commands while in the folder containing the two files. It might be a problem that I could not "place" the commands on separate lines as illustrated in the FAQ. Instead, I had to make due with inserting a space between each command before typing in the next one. ( sansapatcher.exe -of PP5022.mi4 sansapatcher.exe -d sansapatcher.exe --install {ENTER} ) After having pressed {ENTER}, I waited for nearly 2 hours while the cursor lay dead, pulsating near the bottom of the Dos box. Finally, I disconnected my Sansa and confirmed that OF had not been downgraded. Can anyone suggest what I might do to successfully downgrade my version as per the FAQ? Apologies for being so clueless and longwinded. Many thanks in advance.
