Sansa C240 problems: virtual keyboard keymapping, bookmarks

From: John Ritz <>

I've searched the list archives, and I can't believe no one else is running
into the problems I am. ??

Configuration: C240 V1 running RB3.3, 8GB microSD card installed.

1. The keymapping for the virtual keyboard is both incorrect and
nonfunctional. 'Long select' will not create a file and exit. The volume
keys will not move the cursor within the filename, so I can't create a valid
filename to save. They do save the file, though, and take me back to the
playlist submenu. Besides, the files are nonfunctional, since the extensions
are wrong. They are also in the root directory (along with the dynamic.m3u8
file) instead of the PLAYLISTS subdirectory. The record key does not delete
characters as advertised. The keys all work fine in other contexts and with
the Sansa firmware.

The WPS keymappings are wrong, too. Submenu goes to the context menu, not
the quick screen. 'Long submenu' goes to the quick screen. At least 'long
select' and 'select + play' do nothing (other keys may also do nothing.)
Most of the rest of the keys work as expected.

These problems persist across themes and with the microSD card removed.

2. I can only create bookmarks for files that are not on the microSD.

I'm interested if anyone has come up with workarounds for the virtual
keyboard and bookmark problems.

Otherwise, I can load and play files just fine on the card. The USB
connection works only if RB is running when I plug it in; this is
undocumented. For everyone's information, in order to boot the Sansa
firmware I have to remove the card.
