You should consider that the binary size of the 3.4 Rockbox code is most
likely to be larger than the 2.? version you were using before, so the
space available for the voice file will be smaller.

Returning to your original problem, a question. Was the old 2.? version
flashed to ROM? If so, until you flash 3.4 the Archos is most likely
loading the old version.
