thanks, ok will get sighted help.

did wonder if it was a battery thing, so just in case I'd put the player on
charge.

when it last booted though, the battery level was at 30%,

if it's a hardware failure, what does that mean exactly? does that mean the
whole thing is dead, or could be sorted out with a format and new version of
rockbox.

I appreciate what you said in your original message, too early to tell yet,
just wondered.

* Hi Elaine,
I would suggest plugging it in as though you were about to copy files to the
drive, but find it in "my computer" and do a thorough scandisk.
There are two checkmarks that need to be checked in scandisk.
