Sorry, but who is this "they" you are referring to? The rockbox developers?
Someone in the forums? A message you've read on the wiki or in irc?
Something else? A bit of context would be useful...
If you're being told by a rockbox developer that all you need to do is
install the latest build, then I think that is all you need to do. The
current development build is what the rbutil will install if you tell it to
install the current build! (Not the same as 'latest release build')

But not knowing what the exact advice you've been told to follow is, it's
very hard for us to guess exactly what you've been instructed to do, and
therefore why it might not be working for you.
