Subject: RE: Sansa Fuze V2 Firmware Updates

RE: Sansa Fuze V2 Firmware Updates

I am a newbe, but have read that some sansa models are mislabled. Case reads
one thing, when guts are anouther. Have you checked to make sure you have a
V2 Sansa Fuze? JoJo

The original firmware that was on the player was V02.03.32, so judging by
this, I assumed that it was a V2 player. Plus When it came time to install
the V02.03.33 firmware from Sandisk, it took it without any problems.

Blessings,

Brian

Hi Brian,

This could be a bug, and if so you should fill a FlySpray item to report it.
But first we should rule out any possible error by your side.

Please repeat and specify the followings:

* What Rockbox Utility version are you using.

* What original firmware file are you using (provide a link to it, if
possible).

* How do you install it in RButil (manual/automatic installation).

* What is the output of RB - did it succeed or failed.

* Any other information that might be relevant.

Did you tried talking with developers in IRC?

Tomer

Hi Tomer,

The Rockbox utility is V26825.

Original firmware is: V02.03.33, and it can be found at:
http://forums.sandisk.com/sansa/board/message?board.id=sansafuse
<http://forums.sandisk.com/sansa/board/message?board.id=sansafuse&thread.id=
38046> &thread.id=38046

I started out patching the original firmware by hand using the command line,
and every time I would make an attempt, it would always report back that it
was successful. Then I tried using the automatic install feature in the
RBUtil., which always reports back that the firmware was patched
successfully. I've never once gotten an error.

According to my wife, who is reading the Fuze screen, when ever I unplug the
Fuze V2 from the USB port the screen says, "refreshing media content", and
then the settings choice re-appears, and the unit never turns itself off.
Also, when ever the original firmware is installed, after it's finished, the
unit deletes the fuzpa.bin file, but when trying to install the patched
firmware for RB, the fuzpa.bin file is never deleted.

Unfortunately time hasn't allowed me the luxury of getting on IRC with the
developers yet.

Blessings,

Brian

Well once again, I was able to successfully compile things, but after
rebooting the Fuze, it still wants to load the Sansa firmware. In fact, it
acts like it just rejected the modified firmware, and didn't even make an
effort to install anything. Just to see if it would install firmware at
all, I reinstalled the 02.03.33 firmware, and everything went just fine. In
fact, it was like I had completely refreshed everything.

So for what ever reason, my Fuze doesn't like modified firmware. Any and
all help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you patch the same firmware file that you successfully flashed your
player with? Make sure that you've carefully read the installation
instructions in your player's <http://www.rockbox.org/manual.shtml> manual.

Please contact developers in IRC <http://www.rockbox.org/irc/> - they'll be
able to help you with this (I can't help you more than this).

Regards,
Tomer

 Hi Tomer,

Yes, I did patch the same firmware file that I was using. Every time I've
made an attempt, I've followed both the Sansa instructions, as well as the
Rockbox instructions to the letter. It's as if the patched firmware isn't
passing a checksum process or something, and is being rejected by the
player. As a matter of fact, the patched firmware file gets left on the
Fuze after each attempt, where the non-patched file gets deleted after a
successful firmware install.

Blessings,

Brian
