Date: Tue, 21 Dec 2010 10:26:45 -0700 I recently upgraded my 5.5G Video from a 30GB hard drive to a 120GB drive. The drive i used is a Hitachi HS12YHA, which is the same thickness as the 30GB drives. It is also the same drive used in the older (1G or 2G) 120GB iPod Classics. The newer classic uses a different connector, thus they are incompatible. There are a few variations of the Hitachi. One has a smaller 2M buffer but has a speed of 4200rpm. The one i got (which is more common) has an 8M buffer but is only 3600rpm. Syncing is definitely slower with the 3600rpm drive but in my case i synced my entire library using winamp (about 60GB which took a few days unfortunately) and now have it set to update when my library changes so it works for me. I did have to modify a line in the Rockbox source in order to get Rockbox to work with that new drive. See my post under 'Q re ipod 5.5g w/ large disks, was Rockbox 3.7.1 released!' There is a 240GB Toshiba MK2431GAH drive out there but i believe you need to get a slightly larger back to fit it in your 30GB iPod. There are some posts in the forum about upgrading a 5/5.5G hard drive. Can't seem to find the exact posts but i believe it's under the hardware section. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe: http://cool.haxx.se/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/rockbox FAQ: http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/GeneralFAQ Etiquette: http://www.rockbox.org/mail/etiquette.html Received on 2010-12-21 Page template was last modified "Tue Sep 7 00:00:02 2021" The Rockbox Crew -- Privacy Policy |
