Makes sense. It looked like Rockbox wasn't able to extract the proper length of
the file, and it refused to play them because of that.

Probably, given a test file or two. Some consideration is needed, so one doesn't
loosen it too much, or make it waste battery looking for valid headers that
might not be there. But if the original firmware can do it, it sounds reasonable
for Rockbox to do it too.
