By preventing Maria's iPod from entering USB mode I was simply trying to
allow it to dumbly feed line-out through the dock connector to an
accessory I was hopeful was also dumb and simply amplified whatever came
over its line-in pins. Your accessory may be too "smart" for this trick
to work.

I don't know what automobile head unit you have, but there is a decent
chance one of two things is going on:

1 - The head unit ignores analog audio from the line-in because it can't
talk to the ipod.

or

2 - The head unit has no analog line-in, but rather does some fancy
digital audio format through the dock connector which Rockbox does not
support.

Apple's accessory protocol really isn't one protocol, it's multiple
different ones and Rockbox doesn't support all the possibilities.
