I did indeed check that it was formatted vfat. and I was attempting to install 3.9.1. I'll give it a go with the current build as soon as I get another chance. One thing I noticed was that the ipod disk is partitioned into two with a small partition as sdb1 and the bulk as sdb2 which is formatted vfat. the second partition appears to be one block too big and syslog reports that it is adjusting it to EOD (end of disk?). I'll send a cut and paste of it to this thread when I next get chance. However, that should not affect the installation of the bootloader which presumably sits in the first few bytes of the raw disk (sdb in this case).
