yup, could try an fsck. note that I don't have any access to a windows
pc at all. However, I do have access to a Mac Book Air running OSX ( I
think).

My file level restore of the original ipod files does not seem to have
worked very well as nothing appears in playlists/albums/etc. folders.
The Apple firmware appears to be working ok tho. It is not the end of
the world - I'm not likely to use the ipod unless I get rockbox
running anyway.

Don't have time tonight but will post an update on my next attempt...
