Hey Ross,

ok, i think you forget to install the bootloader. that wasn't possible
with rockbox utility.
but you can use the RB utility to install the ".rockbox"-directory on
your device.

if the .rockbox directory exists on your device follow the next steps...

I. Donwload the Original Sansa Firmware
http://mp3support.sandisk.com/firmware/clipzip/clipzip01.01.18.zip

II. Download the Rockbox bootloader
http://download.rockbox.org/bootloader/sandisk-sansa/clipzip/bootloader-clipzip.sansa

III. Download the "mkamsboot" for your operating system
linux:
http://download.rockbox.org/bootloader/sandisk-sansa/mkamsboot/linux-x86-32/mkamsboot

windows:
http://download.rockbox.org/bootloader/sandisk-sansa/mkamsboot/win32/mkamsboot.exe

IV. extract the clipzip01.01.18.zip (in a directory with
bootloader-clipzip.sansa and mkamsboot)

V. linux - use the terminal: ./mkamsboot clpza.bin
bootloader-clipzip.sansa patched.bin
     windows - use cmd.exe: mkamsboot.exe clpza.bin
bootloader-clipzip.sansa patched.bin

VI. copy the output file “patched.bin” to the root of the Sansa Zip and
rename it to "clpza.bin" (your Sansa Zip must be mounted of course)

VII. reboot your sansa zip and wait for the firmware update to finish...
