 Hi Remy, Hi Sheldon,

I am a sighted french user...

For years I have been a sighted user of Sansa Clip, Clip+, Clip Zip. I never used the voice menus but indeed I was able to use it blind, as the physical controls were simple and effective.

Like Johannes it's unclear to me wether you successfully installed rockbox on your Clip+. If you need help for this I suppose I can help you over the phone : I haven't done it for years but together on the rockbox website and having both the Clip+ at hand, we should work it out...

(If or) once RB is running on your Clip+
Like Sheldon I enjoyed setting it up through configuration files (*.cfg)
Rockbox updates the main cfg file everytime you change a setting. The name of this file may depend on the player (I actually don't remember this name being<fixed.cfg>). Each time you are happy with it you can duplicate the fileas many times as you want and rename each file according to how it fits one situation or another. Duplicating the file can be done either with rockbox running or with a computer. You can also use your computer to manually edit your cfg files. If you need any help on this, again I can help over the phone, by email or both.

About the voice menus : I never used it but I guess I could figure it out. Sheldon settings and tips should help

About translation =
I work in a hospital and I have used some spare time when I was on night shifts to work on it. The work required is simple = a link takes you to a list of phrases to translate AND complicated = even though I'm familiar with tha vocabulary involved, often it's difficult to find a french translation that sounds appropriately clear to anyone. My understanding is that the french voice menus are usable as they are anyway. Once you will have started to use rockbox and the voice menus with your Clip+, we could have a chat about this and join our efforts to improve translation in a sensible way.

Note that I'll be doing night shifts again in october+november.

I'll send you my gmail address separately with subject = Rockbox

Tshaw !!

 Hi Remy,
what Sheldon wrote is true, but answering your original questions:The clip+ should be great for your purposes. I have one running with voiced menus due to a broken screen. Alternatives would be Clip Zip or Sansa E200 (the version with FM radio). They are available used on *bay.
There is no need for you to translate anything. It's already done. French voice files are available on the rockbox website.
If you want me to, I can package a zip file for you with everything set up properly, so you just have to unzip onto your player.I suggest you run chkdsk on you player first. It was not completely clear to me whether you have installed Rockbox on your player (at least the bootloader).

There may be differences between a clip plus and a clip zip.

A few comments.  I believe that rockbox will create a config file for
you which you can copy to fixed.cfg
To use this file, just cut it into fixed.cfg
The big change you would want is to have the files and folders read what
they are. To do that you need to create a file for each item beyond the
main menu.  A text to speech application will do that. Or perhaps you
can use the tags on mp3 files. From page 77 of the Clip plus manual.
Use File .talk Clips. This option turns on the use of .talk clips for
On. Use special pre-recorded files for each file. This functions the
same as for directories except that the .talk clip file must have the
same name as the described file with an extra .talk extension (e.g.
Punkadiddle.mp3 would require a file called
Off. No checking is made for file .talk clips; they are not used even if
present. This can reduce disk activity. Use of a .talk clip takes
precedence over other filename voicing. Otherwise (e.g. if a .talk cl
Or you could have the words spelled out. This is discussed starting on
page 76 of the manual.. I only get the front menu and battery level
announced. This config file is optimized for podcasts and audiobooks.
For clip plus, the details of the config are in Appendix E of the
manual, starting at page 195.  You want to change the talk options in
the config file. They are set out on page 197. Here they are
