I just checked to make sure.

With typical chargers, you plug a USB-A end into the charger. This is
the big connector. The other end of the cable that goes into the device
can be a variety of ends. If you need a USB-C end or a micro-USB end 
and the cable doesn't have it, you can get an adapter or just buy a
USB-A to USB-C cable instead of using one of the USB-A to micro-USB cables.

Solomon says you may be stuck at the USB 2.0 charging rate.  If you want
faster charging, pay attention to the cable. I've got cables that charge
very slowly and those that charge much faster. Shorter cables can be
better. The cable with my Clip Zip is excellent. You might want a
battery app on a phone or tablet to test and see the huge difference the
right cable makes.

The only exception is apple devices where I think you have to be careful
to get OEM chargers and cables. That's what Louis Rossman keeps
demonstrating.
