Classic small-scale system administration, much like driving manual
transmissions, has become an increasingly lost skill as most everyone
has migrated to using third-party services. And, much like rockbox
itself, I want to help keep that dream alive. :)

When I migrated and consolidated the existing stuff from the Haxx (and
other) servers onto mine, I cleaned up and documented everything
specific to the Rockox and left it in a much better integrated state,
but as my server was already (very) well established, I didn't need to
worry about setting up and documenting the pre-requisites.

I'm working on setting up the VPS provided by Fosshost, documenting
everything that's needed to bring each component online rather than
taking advantage of an already-well-established
everything-and-the-kitchen-sink server.

The nice thing is that once this is finished, everything rockbox [1]
will be truly self-contained and relatively portable to any hosting
provider, _and_ sufficiently documented that recreating everything from
scratch will be a considerably less perilous task for the relatively
inexperienced.

[1] I intend to keep the lowest-level stuff (eg dns and email hosting)
on my servers so I don't have to duplicate the infrastructure.

There is a paypal donation link off the main page, but over the last
year or so we've probably averaged under $25/month in donations.

Coincidentally, that's about what it costs for a commercial VPS capable
of meeting our basic needs, though that doesn't take into account the
compute and bandwidth donated by volunteers running our CI builders or
meta-infrastructure like dns, email, and 3rd-party authentication.

In parallel to all of this I'm still trying to find a home for my server
with sufficient bandwidth to meet rockbox's >400GB/mo needs, but so far
my only confirmed options are $300-500/mo colocation, or slightly flaky
DSL with 5mbps upstream.

And so it goes...
