Well, there will always be builtin defaults - the code has to
include at least sane basic values, and builtin defaults have
the added advantage that the firmware can maintain basic
operation even if loading this or that config file fails.

I don't see the need for an additional method to get defaults,
it would only complicate things. Imho, one reason why rockbox
has come that far is the KISS principle, a principle that seems
a bit disregarded recently...
