"get_pic_list" is invoked every time you invoke the viewer, isn't it?

I believe that when you run the simulator, the shared library
containing the viewer is loaded only once, so that the variable is
only initialized once. Maybe this reflects a simulator bug in that
loading and unloading of plugins doesn't properly mimic device
behavior?
