I think that a release will both simplify support (more people using one
consistent version, and a clear line for people to understand that
'current' is under development and not thoroughly tested) as well as
improving the image with new users (since we still get people trying out
the iPod version and thinking that it's regular for Rockbox to reduce
battery life greatly, often explaining it away with 'Rockbox simply uses
your hardware more').

On a related note: What exactly are the duties of a release manager?
