question about information in wiki

HI list.
Ok first off i'm not complaining i'm simply asking for clarrification on the
following extract from the wiki, in the iriver flashing guide.
i'm going to update my rockbox so that it runs from rom rather than disc.
i just looked at the flashing guide and saw the following section.
Once you have flashed your player you can change the boot sequence to your
preference as follows,

a.. Switch off your player, select HOLD switch ON,
b.. Switch on player, you will be presented with a boot menu,
c.. Switch Hold switch off, navigate to your choice, press record to
enable it as default.
d.. Save your settings and exit
e.. ok i understand that part but my question is. Surely if the hold
switch is on that is designed to lock the player so that it doesn't
accidentally get switched on say in our pocket. So if this is still the case
how are you supposed to switch it on with the hold switch in the on
position? or is the function of the switch slightly changed?
also could someone please tell me if i do run rockbox from rom where should
i store the .voice file for the speech? as i'm guessing once rockbox is
running from rom you don't really need the rockbox folder on the disc.
