And if, it should not be hard to manually apply them, as they don't go deep into the source. The patches can be found here: http://svn.rockbox.org/viewvc.cgi/www/gcc/ Sadly, your codec performance comparison isn't really meaningful if not even your "recommended" compiler version (4.0.3) doesn't have the patches applied.
