Rockbox mail archiveSubject: Status of USB in 3.3Status of USB in 3.3

Date: Fri, 12 Jun 2009 19:37:12 +0200 Hello, It seems that the USB code is stable these days, with the exception of FS#9957 and FS#10319. These two can be worked around (FS#9957 by telling about it in the release notes, and FS#10319 by disabling HID events), so we can finally have a release with our very own USB stack. However, enabling the USB stack in trunk has also exposed some problems, especially on ipods : the charging code doesn't work properly, and disk access is slow. Especially the charging problem is bad, as it means that a significant number of people will have to reboot to the OF anyway to charge, but there have been complaints about the slow transfers on the forums as well. For these reasons I think it's advisable to keep using the OF for USB on the ipods. Both are issues are mostly solved (see FS#8802 and FS#9708), but they need just a bit more work and testing, so they should be resolved by the next release. I've committed changes I'm proposing to the 3.3 branch (r21261 and r21262), but of course there's still a bit of time until the release, so there's still time to adjust them.
