Having a player that actually has this feature, I can tell you that you can actually hold your button down through the entire duration of the fade (which is far longer than necessary to tell the fade has begun) without turning off the player. This also, of course, means the WPS is gone, so no paying attention to a playback indicator is necessary. I would suggest that you not say "enough seconds for the power off probably" without at least testing it yourself. The fade on pause/stop is relatively short, the power off very long in comparison. Please, don't make guesses about how it behaves if you don't own an iPod and can't experiment for yourself. You can't make assumptions based on how it is for other players.
