Rockbox mail archiveSubject: h1xx bootloader: new release?h1xx bootloader: new release?
From: David Johnston <david_at_pinkandaint.com>
Date: Thu, 9 Jul 2009 11:19:40 -0700 So there's this persistent problem with the h1x0 bootloader for anyone who's done a CFMod: the released one won't work at all, and 7pre4 (an unsupported and more-than-year-old build) supports it only when booting from RAM or ROM. Does anyone know if any work has been done yet to get the SVN bootloader to be able to boot from CF? The broken CF support rears its head whenever a user uses the bootloader's USB mode, since the BL automatically boots from disk after exiting USB mode. It ends up requiring a hard reset to get past the ensuing ATA -80 error. Speaking of which, is there a good reason why you can't turn off the player with the usual off key when an ATA error comes up in the BL? I would think we should aim for the ability to do a soft reset whenever possible -- for instance, in all cases where there's an actual reported error, not just a freeze. Anyway, my main question is (to anyone who knows the inner workings of the BL): would it be possible to fix the BL ATA -80 error on CFModded h1xx player? And if so, wouldn't it be appropriate to release an supported bootloader that works properly on devices with such a popular (and easy) mod? Not only that, but having a released BL with CF support would encourage more people do the mod by eliminating the main scary parts: flashing a new, non-supported bootloader and getting rid of OF, and setting up for ROM/RAM boot. (BTW, I was talking to Slasheri about this on IRC on the 7th (http://www.rockbox.org/irc/log-20090707). I'm just curious if anyone else has an opinion about this issue.) -David (animatorgeek on IRC) Received on 2009-07-09 Page template was last modified "Tue Sep 7 00:00:02 2021" The Rockbox Crew -- Privacy Policy |
