It being written in the git docs doesn't mean that git requires the
described format either :o

One thing that's generally nice about git is the fact that its users
follow a somewhat standard way for commit messages even without it
being required by the SCM. While I do like single-line commit messages
myself I also like that approach, and it might be worth it considering
to adopt it (first line is a descriptive summary of up to something
like 50 characters, then a blank line followed by details).
