I can see plenty of cases where it could be used, I'm sure you arnt
alone in thinking it wont be used. Guessing what people will do is a
silly excersize.

Specific example:

has added the comment "The original Apple iPod Nano firmware has a
setting to show the time in the Status Bar. It is enabled by default,
to disable uncomment line 201 and comment line 202."

I'm sure that isnt the only theme online with some small amount of
user customisability (and I really dont think its a stretch to tihnk
more themers wont add the option if it were easy).
My specific example is because AA looks like crap on the mini2g's
display but I like cabbie, and I doubt I'm the only one. Adding 1 line
to the wps means anyone who agrees has a dead simple fix.

For the same reason tagcache.navi (among others) isnt modified
directly, it would get overwritten on updates.
