You may have hoped for a voice UI, but that was a feature added to the core project when someone interested in it worked on it, not because of any donation. It was also a core feature, not a custom, unique build tailored down to a specific purpose. Donations do not cause things to happen. You could donate $10,000 and it wouldn't change the direction of the project a bit, because the people working on the project also expect them to be donations, which means strings not attached. If you want to hire someone for work, you need to interact directly with them or there is no way to reasonably guarantee you'll get what you want. So yes, suggesting someone who's come to the list wanting a specific customized build instead throw their money away as a donation and hope is nonsense. While the project would love the donation, odds are very good the person would not get a version of Rockbox suitable as an audio guide in return. Instead of accusing a Rockbox developer of speaking nonsense, it might benefit you to go back and look through the history of the project in response to people looking to buy specific features. Frank stated quite well the response of the project developers basically every time such a request has come up - donations are donations, if you want to buy a feature or build talk to an individual.
