You shouldn't pick an implementation just because it's done. If it there are reasons why it's not good enough to include, you shouldn't include it just because "someone wrote the patch." "Nothing, until a better implementation comes along" is always an option, and an important reason why discussion should happen. As I said, I think rather clearly, my idea is to discuss "what we want" which is the first step in deciding whether we want to include a specific implementation such as his. If it doesn't meet the overall need it shouldn't be included just because it's done, especially if it has disadvantages to existing use cases (which admittedly it doesn't as long as you leave in the abundance of additional options).
