One con is that it seems to prevent building with gcc 3.x as that doesn't
support weak declarations:

"/rockbox/apps/codecs/lib/codeclib.c:40: warning: weak declaration of
'codec_main' not supported"

Unfortunately I can't seem to get gcc 4 working under Cygwin, so this may
kill off Cygwin as an option for Windows users.
