Did you try make -j ? From what I remember, this was a lot faster in
a VM then Cygwin due to some weirdness about disk io in cygwin.

Anyway, I basically depreciated cygwin a year or two ago when I put
notes all over the wiki saying not to use it :)

Not sure what else we need to do.
