FS#5620 - Changes to iPod manuals
(Note: By “All targets”, I am stating these changes are needed for all iPod manuals.)
Advanced Topics- Firemware Loading- Topics 7.5+7.6 in manual
This feature does not currently work on iPods, but considering that it is planned to eventually work, I suggest a note at the least that it is currently under development should be made for as of right now the manual is misleading.
File Formats- Topic A
"Rock Firmware File" is listed as a file type, for iPods the file type is .ipod
.rvf is listed as a supported file type. To my knowledge .rvf is not supported in any of the iPods, including the 5g/video. I am unsure of whether or not if it will be supported in the future on any iPod.
Configuring Rockbox: Sound Settings- Bass+Trebel- Topics 4.2+4.3
Currently no description is given for either. Below are descriptions written by me, which are simply altered descriptions from the Archos recorders manual's.
Bass
This emphasizes or suppresses the lower (Bass) sounds in the track. 0dB means that bass in unaltered (flat response). The minimum dB setting for Bass is -6dB and the maximum is 9dB.
Trebel
This emphasizes or suppresses the higher (Trebel) sounds in the track. 0dB means that treble is unaltered (flat response). The minimum dB setting for Treble is -6dB and the maximum is 9dB.
The Rockbox Interface
ID3 Viewer
The instructions for accessing the ID3 viewer are not given. Instructions: At the WPS screen, press and hold select (Middle round button) for a few seconds. Scroll to ID3 Info, and press select.
As well, I’ve enclosed (hopefully) more clear to read pictures for the File Browser, Virtual Keyboard, ID3 Viewer, Main Menu, Recent Bookmarks, Sound Settings, Graphica Equalizer, General Settings, File Menu, and Playlist Submenu as the current ones are very blurry around the words to the point of being unreadable or not there.

the screenshots aren’t blurry at all, they are captured with their native resolution from the sims. But, and this is the real cause, all screenshots are scaled down to the same size, regardless of their natural image size, thus scaling the screenshots of higher resolution targets a lot more down. This results in the effect you described as “blurry” – try zooming in very close.
We should consider using bigger sized screenshots for targets with high resolutions (like the ipod video). As the ipod isn’t a “release” target yet this is of pretty much low priority for now. Thanks for writing some missing texts.
Ah, so all those attachments are pretty much a waste of space. If I knew how to I’d remove them. And the texts are pretty much just copied from older manuals, but yeah. If I knew at what dB the bass and trebel begin to distort if at all, I would have noted it.
And oh, I noticed the Sliding Puzzle plugin has the controls not noted in the manual.
They are:
Left/right/menu/play- Move tile
Select+Left- Shuffle
Select+Right- Switch between numbered and pictured tiles
Select+Menu- Exit
If you’ve checked the range of the bass / treble values it is still helpful. Thanks for reporting, feel free to note more wrong or missing stuff
I’ve adjusted the quirks you pointed out except the first (on Rolo) and the image scaling issue for now.
You should add a note that bass/treble don’t currently work correctly for iPods. They will adjust volume/output level up in the positive range, and they have no effect in the negative range. They do not, however, actually adjust bass or treble levels.
Just to clarify midkay’s comment - the bass/treble settings work on the 4g (greyscale and Color/Photo) and the Nano. But they don’t work on the 5g or (afaics from the source), the two minis.
Oh, really? Interesting.. well, it should be platform-specific then.. thanks for the info, linuxstb.
Rolo now works on ipod thus leaving only the “blurry images” issue. Btw, the html manual includes the screenshots (intentionally) unscaled.
Now the screenshots for targets with large displays won’t get scaled that much anymore, thus the screenshots should become readable for them. We should consider using a different default theme on that targets but that’s a different topic (and IIRC it already has been discussed on IRC)
