Rockbox

HI, is there a way that you could add a “Single”
playmode, so it stops after playing one song, instead of
repeating all, or repeating single? That way, it could also
be used as an “auto-off”, where it shuts off after one
song. Also, and maybe this isnt possible, but you could
have an option to play X number of songs and then stop,
where the X is configurable.

I have an iPod 4G Grayscale (model A1059) running Rockbox 3.14 with an Apple FM remote (model A1187). The remote part works ok (Play/Select and Fwd/Rev buttons work - volume control is separate due to it being connected to the line out, but works).

However, the radio menu does not show up in the main menu when connected. Not when I boot with the remote connected, not when I connect it after booting, and not if I go to a different menu and then back.

In the debugging menu, it simply says that the FM tuner hardware is not found.

I am sure that this used to work at some point. Are there known regressions?

I'm having a shutdown issue after using my 6G ipod Classic in the car. After I have turned off the car the ipod will automatically enter a paused state but when i either hold play to shutdown or wait for the idle shutdown it will hang showing the shutting down… text and never turn off. when I manually shutdown the ipod (hold play button) down after using the ipod in the car you can hear the HD spin up and after 4-5 second hear the HD park (click) but still feel the ipod vibrating like the HD is still spinning, the text shutting down… is shown and just stays there and drains the battery. the only way to shut it down it hold menu and select.

In car is a Dension gateway G300 (ipod is connected and controlled with a dock cable, can use car controls to change tracks on ipod apple firmware and rockbox)

This is basically a documentation update. For several years I generated accessibility voice files on my devices. Then one day I was reinstalling and it would generate a lot of the voice files but die from a weird error. For more than six months I combed the manual and the forums, trying to figure out what had changed, trying to debug it myself. Eventually I stumbled across the problem. I had noticed the “install on player” option in Rockbox Utility and started generating voice files while running from the player. Once I switched back to running Rockbox Utility by launching the utility from my regular PC disk, everything worked again. I again looked for any warning about this in the manual, and didn’t find anything.

The simplest fix is to include something about this in the section on accessibility and generating voice files.

Another fix, probably not worth it, would be for the voice files to use system tmp space for intermediate files. I suspect that the recursive generation of talk files on player ends up in some infinite regression as it generates talk files for temporary files.

This probably happens on all players, but I only experienced it on the iPod Nano 1st Gen.

When playing music sometimes crackling sound exist but after 5-6 secs playing it dissappear
i tried to update until the last rockbox firmware (ver.b045e4d date 2016-11-01) the problem still there

Hi there! I'm having a huge problem with the rockbox boot on an iPod classic 5G. I've selected a number of option in the tagcache settings, such as 'load to ram', and after it readed all the files (30GB of music) ask me to reboot, and finally it freezes on the message 'saving tagcache' [1/9], responding only when i press menu+select for reboot. The same for the usb connection. I can't manipulate the files in any way!

I have Rockbox (Development version Revision 9a5f7ce). Rockbox music playback was crystal clear, however after few days of use, a constant static background hiss/static noise can be heard.

i am shuffling through songs and set crossfade to shuffle only it still fades when i do a manual track change this does not happen when i set shuffle
should not occur as there is an option for shuffle and manual track change only, so the two options have the same functionality when i am shuffling it should be able to differentiate between
should be able to register that i have pressed next so the next song should not fade even though it is on shuffle.

Hi, firstly i put Sansa c200 because SansaClip+ is not available in the list.
My player is a Sandisk SansaClip+ bought 6 months ago with an 8Gb class 4 Sandisk microsd (that is currently empty, no songs stored).

Steps to reproduce the issue (after a fresh installation of the Firmware, no settings changed):

1) Switch on
2) → database
3) → track
4) select any track
5) press the central button
6) Erase Dynamic Playlist? is displayed.. Select Yes
7) countdown then starts to play
8) Seek to the next song (it happens at the first seek or might need three, four one after the other)

- I installed version 3.10 on top of version 3.09, but later on I tried to uninstall completely 3.10 and reinstall it from scratch and the issue is the same.

- After the crash i have to keep the "switchoff" button pressed for a while.. then I press it again to restart the player and I try to resume the song I get "playlist control file is invalid" or "nothing to resume"

- behavior is the same with or without the SD card

- The issue was randomly happening (but very very rarely) also on the previous version of the firmware (3.09) I got the error a couple of times in 6 months.

Sound in all games sounds like chirps or clicks that sounds kinda like the real music on the Nano2G.

Been using Rockbox for years, so it was really obvious when things got messed up somewhere in 3.12~3.13. In a nutshell, with this release, in a 1000+ playlist, I’m listening to the same songs over and over again when shuffle is on. To fix the issue, I have to turn shuffle OFF and then flip it back to ON every time I start a player. Never had this problem before. Don’t know if this affects all devices or just my H340 (yes! still going strong!).

I'm using Rockbox on my NWZ-384 for a couple of years now and there were no problems building it in the past. I also was very glad that NWZ-380 port reached stable status in 3.14,
but now something seems to be broken (not terrible it seems, just requires some adjustments to the linker scripts but still).

Steps to reproduce:

1. Start listening to a series of podcasts, say 1-5
2. After listening to >1 plug player into computer during playback of subsequent podcast
3. Delete the podcasts you have already listened to (not what your currently listening to)
4. Eject/Unplug player from computer
5. Attempt to resume playback

This fails for both resume and Recent Bookmarks functionality. I assume this is somehow tied in with playlist support as files from the playlist have been deleted.

Where does Recent Bookmarks keep it's information? Should the bookmark also keep the individual file referenced so it can resume in this case?

Experienced Results:
I have 2 folders(lets call them FolderA and FolderB) each containing audio files.
FolderA and FolderB are both on the root of my drive
Neither one has a database.ignore file in it.
I go to settings → general settings → database → update now
All files are added to the database as expected
…But i realize i dont want FolderB to show up in the database.
I add a database.ignore file at /FolderB/database.ignore
Then I go back in and update the database again(settings → general settings → database → update now)
all of my audio files still show up in the database(including the ones in FolderB with the database.ignore file)

Expected Results:
After adding the database.ignore file to FolderB and updating the database(settings → general settings → database → update now) the audio files in FolderB should no longer appear in the database

Summery:
Any files in a folder containing a database.ignore file should be removed from the database on update

Not very long ago I got iPod Nano 2 gen 8gb, installed rockbox and encountered this strange behavior:

After pushing and releasing Hold button player doesn't react on wheel. When I'm trying to use some other button(Menu, for example), nothing happens. After third attempt to use a button Rockbox does button context properly, showing me what I wanted to see a few clicks ago. What happens with interface after using Hold? When I return to 'Now playing' screen throughout Menu, all works fine. But right after using Hold button I can't nor increase/decrease volume, neither move in a menu list.

Seen with r27199 on the e200 simulator.

If I place a .wps file in the root directory and “play” it from the file browser, the WPS is not loaded. I’d expect it to load but not to be saved as the setting.

The same file is loaded if it’s in the directory /.rockbox/wps, i.e. it’s not the wrong file contents that’s causing the error.

Today I've experience something which IMO should not happen.

I recorded vian the built in micro on my Sansa e200 v1, paused the recording (not stopped!). In this state, I plugged USB cable. After that, there was the following text in the system font on the display, and the player did not respond to any keys. It had to be restarted via very long pressing at On/Off.

I have the official version 3.14 installed.

Using release 3.13 on the clip zip, if I were to put the main crossfeed setting on the right button of the quickscreen, it would cycle through to custom but then stop. If I use the left button of the quickscreen, then after custom there is a data abort crash.

Using build c64b59f-140304, both the left and right quickscreen buttons work to cycle through all 3 settings for crossfeed, but I can still trigger the crash if I use the left button. It seems to be sporadic and timing dependent, because if I click through the options quickly it works fine, but if I slow down and hold the buttons for longer at a time then it will eventually trigger.

I run rockbox daily (last update 27 Feb 2014) and found an issue that I like to report. I have my sandisk clip zip connected to an external USB hub, which is connected to my notebook. Today I left the sandisk clip zip connected and turned the notebook off. I expected that the player will disconnect from the USB hub → blanks the screen after 20-30 seconds (depending on the setup) and then turns off after a while (depending on the setup). Unfortunately the last step won't happen.

The sandisk clip zip really disconnected from the USB connection (the usb picture disappears from the display) with the notebook going back into the rockbox menu (Play, Radio, Settings, Recording etc.) and after a while also blanks the screen as expected.

Unfortunately it does NOT turn itself off as it would if you leave it entirely unconnected (unwired) with the USB. The sandisk clip zip starts to turn the screen on again after a while, turns off again, turns on again after a while, turns off etc.

I had to plug off the mini USB connection (the wiring between the player and the usb hub) so it turns off and shuts down after a while.

What I believe is, that the USB subroutines might not know the difference between powered on notebook and powered off notebook. It only knows that it's wired and thus tries to turn the player on again after it blanks. It should really be possible to keep the player connected (and wired) when the notebook shuts down and have the player shut down as well (after blanking and then turning itself off).

Could this be reviewed and maybe worked on ?

When the dc jack is plugged in to charge while the player is not running (switched off), the display says ‘ATA Error -11’. It can’t be reset except by removing the batteries and dc jack. I ran an older build from last year and it works fine.

This task is about the implementation of the MTP protocol for rockbox.

But there also are some other modification to be able to run it using the debug menu.

Alarm wakeup doesn’t work reliably. It is unclear whether the setup is wrong or the wake up is. It might be that the player wakes up before time because of a small press on the power button and thus somehow forgets about alarm.

The LCD is highly unreliable: sometimes it displays dots and sometimes it stays black.

Rockbox crashes after USB unplug.

A mixed RTL with LTR text appears in a missed order not conforming to bidi logical to visual algorithm of unicdoe.

Implementation is ready in bidi_l2v() , but the “orientation” parameter is hardcoded and passed as “1” always

A suggested solution is either pass “orientation” as 0 for any RTL text, or tie the orientation parameter with the “alignment” option of the text viewer.

With r30907 (and also back to at least r30809 which I tested as well) I experience unneeded mass storage accesses on my iPod nano2G. I do not see this effect on my iPod Video.

Use case:
- Create a playlist from either DB or file browser
- Let buffering finish
- Skip forward track by track
(I use mpc/mp3/aac with embedded album art.)

Effect seen: For some skips I see short flash accesses (much shorter than full rebuffering).

This only happens if dircache is off. With activated dircache this effect is gone.

As such mass storage accesses are severely impacting the battery runtime on HDD targets I hope we get this figured out before v3.10.

If Rockbox is connected via USB with no sd card inserted and it is inserted, it offers the OS to mount the new drive.
If the sd card is removed and reinsterted again, it fails to offer and recognize it.

I could locate the problem in firmware/usbstack/usb_storage.c in the line

if(inserted && check_disk_present(IF_MD(volume))) {

after reinserting the card, check_disk_present fails to return true, so this check fails and the card isn't recognized anymore.

rockbox 3.5: ipod doesn’t recognize the connection of usb. i understand that rockbox doesn’t support usb on a 3G ipod, but it would be nice to boot into disk-mode like it does for firewire.

charging isn’t monitored on ipod 3G. it just goes up to 100% very quickly and stays there.

   I've update my ipod nano 2G to r23629. I found the clickweel would remember the last point my finger leave. And next when I touch the clickwheel, it will make a farward/backward move according to the last point I left, even click the button. Now it is not convenient to type a word with the keyboard inside or setting.
   And my Mac doesn't launch my ipod when I connect my ipod with USB until I change to disk mode. Seems that the USB driver doesn't work.

URGENT/HIGH PRIORITY: Rockbox Firmware 3.7 installed with iRiver H300 1.29J.

Charging when in Rockbox mode (player switched on):

When Rockbox is running and the charger is plugged in, Rockbox can be seen charging the battery in the top left hand corner. When it is fully charged, it shows a full battery.

Charging when iRiver is powered off (player switched off):

When the charger is plugged in, the iRiver begins charging in Original Firmware mode. This is okay as the player charges correctly until Complete.

Booting into OF mode, shows a full battery charge so I can be sure it is fully charged.

However, boot back into Rockbox mode and Rockbox seems to be misreporting the battery charge as depleted - I say misreporting because at this point I know it is actually full/complete. (Booting back into OF mode would also confirm again at this point that there is indeed a full battery charge).

But run Rockbox 3.7 and after a few minutes, a false message - "Low Battery - Shutting Down" appears, after which Rockbox powers off.

I know this is inccorect, because if the battery was so low in OF, the iRiver OF would not even allow you to attempt to power back on (instead it would display a "Low Battery" picture on the display), but I can boot back into OF mode easily with no problems even after this message from Rockbox, again the OF shows a full battery and I can run it for hours with no problem so I know somewhere here there must be a miscommunication/misreading from the battery charge to the Rockbox 3.7 firmware.

Have tested this a number of times to ensure it is a fault and yes it presents itself everytime.

I have experienced a fade in reception with my sansa e260. If I tune to a station, the longer I listen, the more static becomes present until the station is all static. I have found however that if I navigate to another station and go back. The station is clear again. This does not happen on the original firmware and does not seem to be location specific.

So the firmware seems to be seeing a degrading signal, but the signal is not actually degrading. Or perhaps the frequency to which the FM tuner is tuned, begins to deviate until it reaches a point of all static, even though the tuner still displays the original frequency.

Stereo width of >0% can cause stutter in the form of an audible click.

Bypassed by setting stereo width of 0% or monophonic channel configuration.

Expected sorting by artist name, then by album and then by track number, but now all songs by all artists sorting by track names in alphabetical order.

Rockbox 17612-080523 on an iRiver H340 skips entire tracks, and also skips within tracks, when the battery level falls below 30%

No skipping.

- How to reproduce the bug

Allow the battery level to fall below 30% and start playing a directory of files. Some files will be skipped, some files will have parts skipped in the middle.

- The SVN revision you are using and if possible the particular SVN revision in which you think the bug was introduced.

17612-080523, no idea when the bug started.

If you need any further info on this bug, please ask and I’ll give more details. I have no other hardware to test whether this behaviour occurs on other Rockbox platforms.

If you use the Hold Switch to Lock Keys and remove it again to unlock, buttons doesn't work.
Move around with finger at touchpad work. After this bottons work without problems.

The rockbox behaviour when plugging in a firewire cable is to automatically reboot into disk-mode, preventing charging whilst running rockbox.

I’ve been reliably informed that Rockbox should stop scrolling when it gets to the bottom or top of a menu, only to wrap around when you initiate a new scrolling gesture. On a 2nd Generation iPod, however, it just keeps scrolling.

Then I have to click a link with a magic number in it *as well as* having to enter a confirmation code from the same email (!?) and then when I’ve finished, I’m not even logged in! I have to log in with the same password I just set! Can’t it just set a cookie?

While audio is playing, connecting USB and disconnecting it again causes a splash with message “Error accessing playlist control file”. Sometimes followed by a hard crash (like undefined instruction).

Initial analysis shows that the problem occurs in playlist.c:get_filename. An lseek in the playlist control file fails. This lseek fails because the file descriptor (fd) was closed during USB connection. On receiving a SYS_USB_CONNECTED event in apps/misc.c, function system_flush() calls playlist_shutdown().
So the playlist subsystem seems to have been de-initialised during USB connect, but not completely, causing problems when the playlist subsystem resumes during USB disconnect.

This is reproducible on the simulator.

Variable ‘tmp’ on line 565 is possibly not initialised (found by cppcheck).

The Idle Poweroff only reboots my 1G iPod. I assume it should power it off or put it into a power saving mode. This forces it to use up the battery faster then normal unless I set the Hold button to boot into the iPod firmware to do a proper suspend when Rockbox reboots.

The manual says in page 31 chapter 4.3.3. that you can get to the Playlist Viewer Settings from the Playlist Viewer Menu (which should probably be named Playlist Viewer Context Menu), but there is no such entry on the actual player. Just via the settings menu from the main menu.

To reproduce, ensure car adapter mode is enabled, start playback, and leave the now playing screen. If the charger isn't connected, connect it now. Then, disconnect the charger, causing a car adapter mode pause. Some parts of the now playing screen will overwrite the current screen. I see this in file view, main menu and settings. The main menu is quickly redrawn and back to normal, but the file view is only redrawn after I do something. Now, reconnect the charger, which causes a car adapter mode unpause after a short delay. The same thing happens.

I've seen this on:
- 5G iPod using Firewire power, running 3.10RC and r31106
- Archos Recorder V2 using charger, running 3.10RC and r31106

Edit: The same thing happens with headphone plug-in unpause (but not headphone unplug pause). I expect the problem also happens when using BUTTON_MULTIMEDIA_PLAYPAUSE, but I did not test that.

The problem is due to the pause_action() and unpause_action() calls in apps/misc.c. The second parameter is "bool updatewps". It is true in all cases except headphone unplug pause. I don't know why it's false in that particular case.

The second parameter probably shouldn't be there. The WPS should simply update itself if it is currently displayed.

Setting the Idle Poweroff setting seems to work just fine initially because the player ceases to respond to any input. However, when you push the power button back up to turn it on, the screen lights up and says “Shutting down…” for a few seconds before actually powering off. You then have to push the power button back on to turn it on proper.

I am running 3.4 on a 5.5G iPod modified with a 240gb drive. Rockbox is stock 3.4 with LBA48 added in and the max sector size turned off. The database was working ok on 3.3. Only issue was it took forever to add new files. After upgrading to 3.4 I noticed every time I powered on rockbox would lock up in the menus for up to 10 minutes before functioning normally. So I completely removed the .rockbox dir (including the database files of course) and re-expanded a fresh copy. I then tried to init the db. It runs until it is around ~44k files and 99% and then just sits there. If left alone it will eventually just turn it self off. When I turn it back on it will ask me to init the db again. I have seen it try to commit once or twice but it never takes. I am not really sure how to debug this at this point. Also in the debug disk info area, it things my drive is 131071MB. Under Rockbox Info it says 223GB which is better, but these two things are the same as in 3.3. All my Oggs are converted via a script I wrote from my flacs. I do not believe my flacs have any art, I am not even sure you can store art in a flac tag and even them I don’t think the ogg encoder is transferring them. I ran a tag dump (ogginfo) against my oggs and do not see anything to do with album art. I had 4 files on the device with album art. They were all in a directory with a database.ignore file. So they should not have been noticed. Just in case I removed that directory and rebuilt. It went though 44k files, commited 1-9 and then went back to “scanning” but the disk activity had stopped. Upon reboot it asked me to init the db again.

This is not a patched build. I simply changed the config to include large drive support. This is an issue that needs to be looked at. Please check into it, I will be happy to test any ideas.

So, I have a Clip Zip at the moment. Been using rockbox on it since day 1, and since day one i've always had an issue: during playback, when accessing files from the SD card, the player randomly freezes. It's not always, it's not when accessing the same files or some specific characteristic shared by them, it just appears to be random. When it freezes, the LCD usually still responds to my commands (i can access menus, see the file info, even change song and it will display in the playback screen), but the actual playback doesn't, and I eventually have to hard reset it. I guess it's some kind of SD compatibility issues: I have an 8GB class 4 PNY. I know it's not the own card's problem since it worked perfectly on my Clip+ and does on my Android Cellphone.
I've been updating daily builds for this device at least once a week since I got it, and it happens with every build.
