11139BugsMusic playbackVery Lowmusic pause on buffer refill - FS#10919 not completely ...2010-03-23Ronald Malbosc142010-05-21 Task Description

Hi,

I think that the problem reported on  FS#10919  is still here, or at least not completely solved.
But now, I get the feeling that the pause only happens when the buffer refill is triggered via a track skip. During normal playback, it don't seem to happen any more.

The build I tried it on is r25249.

TIA

11192BugsMusic playbackVery LowFLAC with CUEsheet playback issues (reopening of FS#735...2010-04-09Matthieu Mambrini22012-07-27 Task Description

This is a reopening of issue  FS#7354  (quoted below) related to playback problems involving cuesheet support and flac files (labelled #1 in the original post). Jumps to certain positions in flac file according to the cuesheet fail consistently.

The bug is extensivelly described in the original report and can be easily reproduced in current versions. I reproduced it in many situations with the following configuration:

Equipment used: Cowon D2 and Cowon D2 simulation
Rockbox version: tested on r25508-100407 and r24777-100219 (simulation)
Rockbox settings: Cuesheet support ON, other on default
FLAC files: Ripped form my original CDs with EAC (to WAV and cuesheet) in secure mode and processed with FLAC 1.12 and/or 1.14 compression level 8. MD5 checksums on cuesheets and FLACS checked. Cuesheet syntax OK, cuesheet file encoding UTF8-DOS and/or DOS. Works properly my on computer.

Quote of the original post

Full description of issue #1:
While playing certain (but not all) FLAC files with CUE support (played by navigating to FLAC file in “FILES” mode and pressing play), the “skip to next track” command won’t work on certain tracks on that cuesheet, but will skip to other tracks on that CUE just fine. It occurs while in both “now playing” or “browse cuesheet” screen. When I try to skip to certain tracks on CUE, the current playback will stop for a moment and the icon indicates disk usage (just like normal) but it wont skip to appropriate position, just resume playback at current track/position. I have experienced this on multiple files, encoded with FLAC 1.12 and 1.14.

Issue #1 - Tested:
* Found two cases (FLAC + CUE files) in my collection (but I’m sure there are many more) that have this problem.
* These files play without a problem on my computer with Foobar2k and were securely ripped form original CD and encoded (with differnet FLAC versions), MD5 checksum-ed and CUEsheets checked for proper syntax - ALL FINE.

1.) I verified that the issue occurs while trying to navigate to track #9 in case of FLAC file A, and track #7 on FLAC file B. Track start times on both files are different, different lengths and don’t seem to have some kind of “pattern” or to differ (in terms of length, index position,..) from tracks on cuesheet that skip-to normally.

2.) I substituted the A and B FLAC files with FLAC file C (which is a FLAC from a different CD) and preserved the original cuesheets A and B and tried to play FLAC C with these two cuesheets to confirm if it is a problem with a cuesheet. Everytrhing worked as it should and the problem did not occur. So I think that rules out the cuesheet as the only cause of the problem.

3.) I used both cuesheets A and B and both FLAC files A and B, but played FLAC A with cue B and vice-versa. Everything played OK, even on previously problematic positions. (of course the cuesheet info wasn’t correct for that FLAC, since they were swapped, but skipping to tracks worked) That seemed to indicate that there might be a problem with a specific position/time in the FLAC file that the playback wont jump to.)

4) I altered both cuesheets from previous (3.) test so that I entered the correct/problematic INDEX of _one_ of the cuesheet tracks to match the track index of original cuesheet, so that it “hit” that problematic position. So While I played FLAC A with modified cue B (entered the problematic time/index of cue A to one of the tracks) the problem reoccured! I could not skip to that (altered) track position.
This led me to believe that this problem occurs when the track index in cuesheet “hits” a certain time/spot on a specific FLAC file.

5.) This time I checked what will happen if I use a third CUESHEET (from some other CD) on original A and B FLAC files. Everything worked OK. No surprise, as that third cuesheet did not have the track index time of that problematic position.

4.) This time I reencoded both A and B FLAC files with a different FLAC version (now 1.14, was 1.12) and tested again. Previously problematic tracked worked OK!
BUT problem started occuring on other tracks now, on file A on track #13, while FLAC B now had multiple problems: track #2, 5, 8, 14! This suggest that it is not an encoding problem.

Once again, these files work flawlessly on my computer and are proper lossless conversions (I also always use the VERIFY function while converting to/from FLAC)

So the conclusion would be: When cuesheet index of a track “hits” just the right position in a FLAC file, regardless of its encoding the issue will occur. Also, this also isn’t an uncommon problem since I experienced it on 4 occasions and seems to be not-that-hard to find if you test several FLAC + cue combos.

I realize that this happens only with certain FLAC and track indexes COMBOS so it might be harder to recreate, but it really seems not that uncommon. And if not otherwise, I could supply the FLACS in questions (but each is several hundred MBs long and may be illegal to distribute it). I believe it can be recreated with just about any FLAC file, by finding a proper CUEsheet track index. It would be highly unusual that it would happen so frequent in my collection if it was an “isolated case” and I honestly believe it has nothing to do with FLAC or CUE files and that they are encoded correctly and accurately.

When the battery is nearly empty and the iriver H10 is about to shutdown, the volume sometimes suddenly increases progressively, as if the volume UP button was pressed and held down, all the way up to the maximum.

This has happened to me about 3-4 times so far. Pressing the volume DOWN button somewhat counters this bug, but only for as long as the DOWN button is used - the volume keeps increasing.

This occurs with Rockbox Release 3.5 (not 3.4 as the Report Version field of the ticket says).

11743BugsThemesVery Lowodd %s behavior following %Vf tags2010-11-08Jim Billy2010-11-08 Task Description

I think I have experienced a bug in 3.7+ builds with WPS themes related to %Vf.
If you put the %Vf on a new line, the following text is displayed, then cleared, but only if its a scrolling line, if the first line is static it is displayed properly, and subsequent lines are also displayed properly even if they are scrolling

example:

%Vl(b,0,108,176,60,1)
%Vf(999999)
%s%ac%?Ia<%Ia|>
%s%ac%?It<%It|%Fn>

artist is displayed briefly then cleared, if you take out %s artist is displayed properly, if you put the %Vf on the same line with %vl artist is displayed properly with scrolling, if you put a static text line before the first %s line then all lines are displayed properly.

so my quick fix is to just move the %vf on the line with %vl, but this bug probalby breaks many WPS, also this worked before 3.7, not sure when it stopped working. Tested this bug with latest build:r28534-101108 and 3.7 release sansa e200 v1. (also with latest e200 simulator)

this bug was not in builds up to or prior to: r27944-100830

11755BugsBattery/ChargingVery LowBattery reports 0% charge even after fully charged in R...2010-11-13Andy Smith2010-11-13 Task Description

URGENT/HIGH PRIORITY: Rockbox Firmware 3.7 installed with iRiver H300 1.29J.

Charging when in Rockbox mode (player switched on):

When Rockbox is running and the charger is plugged in, Rockbox can be seen charging the battery in the top left hand corner. When it is fully charged, it shows a full battery.

Charging when iRiver is powered off (player switched off):

When the charger is plugged in, the iRiver begins charging in Original Firmware mode. This is okay as the player charges correctly until Complete.

Booting into OF mode, shows a full battery charge so I can be sure it is fully charged.

However, boot back into Rockbox mode and Rockbox seems to be misreporting the battery charge as depleted - I say misreporting because at this point I know it is actually full/complete. (Booting back into OF mode would also confirm again at this point that there is indeed a full battery charge).

But run Rockbox 3.7 and after a few minutes, a false message - "Low Battery - Shutting Down" appears, after which Rockbox powers off.

I know this is inccorect, because if the battery was so low in OF, the iRiver OF would not even allow you to attempt to power back on (instead it would display a "Low Battery" picture on the display), but I can boot back into OF mode easily with no problems even after this message from Rockbox, again the OF shows a full battery and I can run it for hours with no problem so I know somewhere here there must be a miscommunication/misreading from the battery charge to the Rockbox 3.7 firmware.

Have tested this a number of times to ensure it is a fault and yes it presents itself everytime.

This appears to happen only on the simulator, as of r29012.

Fill a directory with, say, some .s3m files and .mod files. Mikmod plugin chokes on calloc (virtch.c, line 1227) during MikMod_Init() sequence.

Remove the .mod files and the plugin loads and works properly.

Reverting the change made to viewers.config in r29012 seems to fix this. I'm guessing the problem is somehow related to the way mod is both playable and viewable, but there's nothing obviously wrong with viewers.config that I can see. Maybe the buffers are getting screwed up somewhere in filetypes.c?

11962BugsOperating System/DriversVery LowPlayer and Filetransfer freeze during USB file transfer2011-02-23not relevant82011-08-18 Task Description

The interface of my Sansa Fuze and the file transfer freeze randomly when transferring large amounts of data. If the player runs in Bootloader USB mode everything is fine.

I guess this could break the vfat file system, making this a nasty bug. Disabling Key and Mouseemulation did not help. As long as this isn't fixed, a solution would be to start the player in Bootloader USB mode by default. I don't know if this is possible though, since I don't know the the technical details of rockbox very well.

Beside that everything works just great, keep up the good word!

PS.: I'm using Debian with different kernels. I couldn't see any differences between different kernel versions regarding this issue. Intels Linux USB drivers and the Linux USB stack in general usually work excellent as far as I know, therefore I would blame it on rockbox (no offense :)).

%?Tl(foo, 1)<helllo|goodbye>

So that conditional will only go true when that foo region is pressed. the label is optional on both, if it is missing on the %Tl then it acts as now (timeout since last press on anywhere on the screen)

I’m using revision 29572 of android port. Host system is Samsung Galaxy 3 i5800, with 240×400 resolution display, with version 2.2 (Froyo) of Android.

The problem is as follows. When trying to start playback of OGG or SPX files, the playback does not start occasionally (the change is maybe less than 20% to have playback). By rewinding randomly it is possible to get it start playback. The same behaviour occurs when starting from bookmarks and from file explorer. The problem occurs with default config file.

Tried with MP3 and had the same problem. The problem may be with other codecs as well but I have not tried it so extensively.

==22619== by 0x406DFA: main (main.c:196)

Question:
Should we protect against "menu→submenus" being NULL or
should the menu system hide empty menus without any items at all?

12109BugsPlaylistsVery LowiPod 3G screen flickers after boot and resuming playbac...2011-05-10Steve Yeats2011-05-10 Task Description

This occurs on Stable 3.8.1 and all builds currently up to Tuesday, May 10, 2011 (r29850-110510).

When my iPod 3G is powered on with no song in the queue to be resumed, and the "resume Playback" item is selected, the screen flickers, the quick glimpse of the selected Now Playing theme can be seen (for me, DancePuffDuo, but also confirmed for every other one I've tried) and it returns me back to the Main Menu without any warning… just an abrupt return.

I've reinstalled stable as well as various builds leading up to the date above and all have the same effect.

The way to reproduce this bug is to Play a single song from the database that is by itself (in the artist/album category of your choosing, or, the last song in an artist/album grouping) and then, after it is done playing and returns you to the database or main menu, shut down and restart Rockbox. Select the Resume Playback item on the Main Menu. The screen should flicker and abruptly return you to the Main Menu without any warning that there is nothing to resume playing.

This bug does not reproduce with the iPod 3G simulator with 05/10/2011's build (r29850-110510).

12114BugsPlaylistsVery LowData abort when queuing all songs from an artist with o...2011-05-13drewbenn12011-05-20 Task Description

I got this error twice in a row; once after the player had been running for a few (5-20) minutes; then I repeated my action and saw the error again. This is the text on the screen from the second occurrence (I did not write down the error text the first time; but when I tried to replicate the issue a 3rd time before submitting, I saw the same text):

Data abort
at 3001A6B0
FSR 0x8
(domain 0, fault 8)
address 0xB0153884

I had a playlist of 2255 items (created using Playlists | Create Playlist so I can just 'shuffle all').
While listening to a song (about 995/2255), I went to Database then Artist and scrolled to an artist that I knew had only one song, did a long press and selected Queue Next. The screen says 'Loading' for a couple seconds, then the music stops and I see the text above.

After the second error, I selected the artist and did the long press on the song and selected Queue Next, and did not get any error

I have a Sansa Clip, but I don't remember if it is a v1 or v2.

12160BugsCodecsVery LowAPE codec random loud noise during playback2011-06-15da unique12011-06-15 Task Description

Hardware: Clip+ 8GB using internal memory
Problem: Playback of most APE files results into passages of loud noise during playback. The music is totally gone and noise is ear deafening loud. When rewinding, till music is heard, and replaying the problem part, error can be reproduced _sometimes_.
In other cases it either runs fine, or the problem occurs elsewhere in the file.

Since the problem does not always occur in a specific part of a APE file, it is hard to attach a sample file.

Problem persisted between ape files encoded in high and normal setting.
Using winamp + monkey audio 3.99 APE plugin, these files never shown problems.

12177BugsFM TunerVery LowGriffin iFM Radio Receiver for iPod (5th Gen) NOT Detec...2011-07-02Raphael Avital2011-07-02 Task Description

Player: iPod Video 5th Gen. (5.5)
Rockbox Release v. 3.9 downloaded/installed 06/28/2011

Accessory: Griffin iFM Radio Receiver for iPhone and iPod - has a doc connector, short cable to a "dongle" which is the FM tuner, with earphone jack on the dongle. No batteries or other power source.

Here's a link to the product's Amazon page:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003ERT46W

Booting into Apple firmware
1. Turned player on with nothing plugged in, the "Radio" menu item does not show up. Plugged in the Griffin iFM, the "Radio" menu item shows up, and when I select it, I get the FM frequency and dial, I can tune it, it works. I did not have to download anything at all from the Apple iTunes store.

2. Turned player on with iFM plugged in - the "Radio" menu item shows up, and from there it all works as above.

Booting into Rockbox OS 1. Turned player on with nothing plugged in, then plugged the iFM on the dock connector, the "FM Radio" item never shows up.

2. Turned player on with iFM plugged in, still no "FM Radio" on the menu.

3. Went into System then Debug then FM Radio - got message: "HW Detected: no"

So Rockbox does not detect it at all. And there's no sense expecting that any Apple/iTunes software would do anything under Rockbox.

What's interesting is, that with the player off (under both Apple and Rockbox OS), if I only plug in the Griffin iFM to the dock connector, and do nothing else, the player turns on. So there must be some kind of hardware detection there.

Actual behavior:

1. FM Tuner option never shows up on main menu (whether powering up with FM Tuner plugged in, or plugging in after power up).

2. When player is OFF, connecting the FM Tuner to the dock port turns on the player.

3. In System/Debug/FM Tuner, "HW Detected" is always "no"

Expected behavior:
1. Expected the FM Tuner option to be available on the main menu (at least when booting with the accessory plugged in to the dock port) as described in the manual.

2. Expecting to be able to tune in to FM stations and play at least through the tuner's headphones connector, if not through the player's headphones connector. Other features (displaying song information, presets, etc.) are secondary (to me).

12182BugsSettingsVery LowWake Up Alarm to Recording Screen Goes to FM on Nano 1g2011-07-06Chuck Montrose42013-05-23 Task Description

When I use the "Wake Up Alarm" with the "Wake Up Screen" set to "Recording." my Nano turns on OK, but the screen starts on the FM screen. This is especially strange as there is no FM radio on this player.

I am expecting the player to turn on and start recording.

This is a 1g Nano running 3.9

Thanks.

12219BugsDatabaseVery Lowit freezes on the 'saving tagcache' process2011-08-06aguzin32011-12-05 Task Description

Hi there! I'm having a huge problem with the rockbox boot on an iPod classic 5G. I've selected a number of option in the tagcache settings, such as 'load to ram', and after it readed all the files (30GB of music) ask me to reboot, and finally it freezes on the message 'saving tagcache' [1/9], responding only when i press menu+select for reboot. The same for the usb connection. I can't manipulate the files in any way!

Please excuse my limited English. Greetings from Argentina and congratulations for the fantastic project!

12221BugsCodecsVery LowAAC files from BBC won't play on Clip+2011-08-08Jonathan Addleman142013-08-17 Task Description

I downloaded some AAC files from the bbc, using the get-iplayer utility. The files play just fine on the computer, but on my rockboxed Clip+, they seem to freeze up the player entirely. I have to hold the power button for a long time to reset it. I just tried updating to rockbox 3.9, but I'm not seeing any difference with the new firmware.

When I play the file in mplayer, it gives the following info:
major_brand: M4A
minor_version: 512
compatible_brands: isomiso2
encoder: Lavf52.64.2
========================================================================Opening audio decoder: [faad] AAC (MPEG2/4 Advanced Audio Coding)
AUDIO: 44100 Hz, 2 ch, s16le, 48.0 kbit/3.40% (ratio: 6000→176400)
Selected audio codec: [faad] afm: faad (FAAD AAC (MPEG-2/MPEG-4 Audio))

I uploaded one of the broken files to my server at though it's a large file - about 30 megs. This is an entire radio broadcast. http://www.redowl.ca/files/BBC_Proms_-_2011_Proms_Chamber_Music_1._PCM_01_-_Bachs_Goldberg_Variations_b012llr2_default.m4a

All the m4a files I've downloaded seem to be broken like this though.

Any idea why these files aren't working? Is there anything I can do, short of transcoding them to another format?

12236BugsUser InterfaceVery LowCover art does not change when using playlist2011-08-20Jeff Robinson52011-08-29 Task Description

After upgrading my 1st generation iPod Nano from Rockbox 3.6 to 3.9 the cover art display does not seem to be working consistently.

When using a playlist the first track will always show the correct cover art, but any tracks after that will continue to show the first track's cover. This also happens if I skip forward or backward between tracks in the playlist.

If I manually select a file to play the correct cover will show, and if I manually select another track during the play-back of the first the cover art will change to the new track.

I have also tried this with current build r30334 (2011-08-20T13:14:30) with the same results.
