Rockbox

On build 30622 and previous builds, there is an issue with resuming playback.

When "Resume Playback" is selected from the menu, you transition into the music control screen but there is no output aside from some crackling noises.

Occasionally, the song would play for half a second before silencing.

The play/pause button during this situation shows a pause symbol which suggests that the song is supposed to play. However, the song progress bar remains at 0:00.

Currently on Cyanogenmod 7.1 nightly, Android version 2.3.5.

The key lock feature on my clip+ can be circumvented. Select the last title in a directory using the file browser. Then activate the software hold. When the song finishes the Player skips to the file browser and the key lock is turned off after a button press. You can navigate around the menus until you return to the playing screen, then the key lock turns on again.

I think there is a problem with a .ape codec ,when i play .ape files it will have a sound like radiosound.The time happen randomly with each .ape files and when i playback again it still happen at that time.Exp:ABC.ape will have have a noisy sound at 0:10 and when i play again it still happen at 0:10

Bluetooth dongles are not "correctly powered up". Problem experienced with ipod Video colour 30GB and following dongles:
- Sennheiser BTD300i
- Kokai i10s

When I boot the standard apple software the dongles auto pair with my headphones. When I boot Rockbox the dongles get power (LEDs go on) but don't pair.

I'd put priority low on this but couldn't change the priority field during bug-entry

The rockbox behaviour when plugging in a firewire cable is to automatically reboot into disk-mode, preventing charging whilst running rockbox.

There's a problem with viewing files in some circumstances in iPod 5.5G last 3.9 release.

When I:
playing something in /Music/Artist/Track.flac,
pause playback,
connect USB cable.
rename /Music/Artist to /Music/ArtistSOMETHING, then disconnect USB cable

I just cannot turn playback on ("~Do not exist" or something message appears, it's OK, I know),
BUT
when I trying to enter in "Files" menu - there's no reaction at all. Just nothing. I can't play of any other existing track or change to any directory without restarting device, or:

just go to Playlists → VIew catalog → select some playlist, then some music appears. But it's too long imho.

Is "it" bug or not?.. :)

files work fine on other devices/PC.
reverted back to v3.6 and all such problems are gone

When connected to PC.
While transferring files from PC to Sansa e280v2.
Both source and destination folders are open.
Sansa shuts off after some time. while transfer is still happening.
this does not happen with original firmware.

With r30907 (and also back to at least r30809 which I tested as well) I experience unneeded mass storage accesses on my iPod nano2G. I do not see this effect on my iPod Video.

Use case:
- Create a playlist from either DB or file browser
- Let buffering finish
- Skip forward track by track
(I use mpc/mp3/aac with embedded album art.)

Effect seen: For some skips I see short flash accesses (much shorter than full rebuffering).

This only happens if dircache is off. With activated dircache this effect is gone.

As such mass storage accesses are severely impacting the battery runtime on HDD targets I hope we get this figured out before v3.10.

Since r30937, the e200v2 bootloader is too large and mkamsboot errors with:

[ERR] Packed data (120926 bytes) doesn't fit in the firmware (120860 bytes)

Steps to reproduce:
1. build e200v2 bootloader
2. cd to rbutil/mkamsboot
3. run make to create the mkamsboot utility
4. run mkamsboot <path-to-e200pa.bin> <path-to-bootloader-e200v2.sansa> <path-to-output.bin>

ROLO is broken on Nano 2G 3.10RC. It just says: Executng… and freezes. Seems to be happening not only for me:

To reproduce, ensure car adapter mode is enabled, start playback, and leave the now playing screen. If the charger isn't connected, connect it now. Then, disconnect the charger, causing a car adapter mode pause. Some parts of the now playing screen will overwrite the current screen. I see this in file view, main menu and settings. The main menu is quickly redrawn and back to normal, but the file view is only redrawn after I do something. Now, reconnect the charger, which causes a car adapter mode unpause after a short delay. The same thing happens.

I've seen this on:
- 5G iPod using Firewire power, running 3.10RC and r31106
- Archos Recorder V2 using charger, running 3.10RC and r31106

Edit: The same thing happens with headphone plug-in unpause (but not headphone unplug pause). I expect the problem also happens when using BUTTON_MULTIMEDIA_PLAYPAUSE, but I did not test that.

The problem is due to the pause_action() and unpause_action() calls in apps/misc.c. The second parameter is "bool updatewps". It is true in all cases except headphone unplug pause. I don't know why it's false in that particular case.

The second parameter probably shouldn't be there. The WPS should simply update itself if it is currently displayed.

I’ve seen this bug on 3.9.1 and 3.10 on Sansa Fuze. If I set the language to Russian and connect the device to USB, I see a message consisting of squares with the only word “USB” being readable. Choosing another font in the settings makes no difference.

When the language is set to English, the message reads: “USB Keypad Mode: Multimedia”. However, the size and look of the font does not depend on the font selected in the settings. This is wrong.

If there is a real need in having a special font for the USB keypad mode text (which I doubt), that font should have glyphs for all supported languages.

Tested on r31173:

Deleted tracks are still visible after the automatic database update when the player boots. These tracks vanish as soon as I add some files. It also doesn't seem to matter if the dircache is enabled or not. Manually updating the database from the menu works as intended.

when deleting a directory with several files in it the splash screen, that is appearing when deleting the individual files, gets printed over the last one without clearing the screen prior to it.

in version 3.10 chessbox plugin doesn't recognize .pgn files in the file menu and so cannot be used as a .pgn reader anymore.

i think rockbox is very nice. I use ist for several years.

Now i found a bug:
The Car Adapter Mode or rather the power-off does not work in the Radio-Mode.
I tested it with the versions 3.4 and 3.10.

If Rockbox is connected via USB with no sd card inserted and it is inserted, it offers the OS to mount the new drive.
If the sd card is removed and reinsterted again, it fails to offer and recognize it.

I could locate the problem in firmware/usbstack/usb_storage.c in the line

if(inserted && check_disk_present(IF_MD(volume))) {

after reinserting the card, check_disk_present fails to return true, so this check fails and the card isn't recognized anymore.

i am using SYLT and USLT tags in my audio files (LYRICS and UNSYNCED LYRICS respectively)

but it seems like lrcplayer does not read the SYLT tag.
it only displays someting if the UNSYNCED LYRICS tag is present

After 3.10 update I usually get my player frozen with usb plug icon if I connect it to any USB host while the player is off.
Steps to reproduce the issue:
1. Power off the iPod.
2. Plug it to Usb host. (tested with mac and Android)
3. Wait the system to boot.
4. It freezes with usb connect icon (no menu bar). Only holding Menu+Select help.

Since the daily builds in between 3.9.1 and now and also on the release 3.10 i experienced a problem with MPEG player not displaying the the fonts right and the chip8 emulator just freezes after loading a file i tested it with a few game files found on the plugin wiki.

USB is broken on mr500. I’ve tried r31467, but this has been the case since at least a few weeks ago.

Enabling logf in the relevant places causes rockbox not to boot, so wasn’t helpful.

All i know is that this happened on 590mb tta file and after cutting it with cue splitter there was no problems with playback.

Languages like Thai use combining diacritical marks which display above or below the adjoining character. When text scrolls off the screen, the text jerks back and re-scrolls what seems to be the width of the diacritical mark. It seems that the scrolling algorithm is counting the width of the diacritical mark, where it should be ignored.

How I am able to reproduce this behaviour on my clipv2 using rockbox 3.10:

I select a file to play using the file browser and rockbox creates a curent playlist.
I save this playlist using the context menu and enter file browser again.
I select a file from any other folder for playing back, I get a “playlist buffer full” error message, that keeps flickering on the screen, when pressing any button.

I increased all file limits and also deleted the .playlists_control file to have it recreated again. The saved playlist consists of 30-40 mp3s.

since build 31646 text viewer stops bookmarking or saving the last position on any file it shows bookmark added when i press the center+down buttons but doesn’t actaully save it.
seems to have a problem writing to the file tv_file.dat.

I have a Sansa Clip+, Clip Zip and Fuze V2 all running various RB versions. The crash happens on all of them.

To focus I will use the Clip Zip (as its close at hand) and tell you what it does.
I get:

This happens when trying to use the lrc plugin on the clip zip running RB version 4.0 (r31646-120109) and accessing a sandisk 16gb sd card that is 12.5gb full.
But i can confirm i get this message (or a similar one) on my fuze v2 and clip+ which are running 'stable' albeit older versions of rockbox (again from sd cards). I mention the sd cards but im 90% sure it happens on songs on the internal memory also.

I suspect it has something to do with my mp3 files having lyrics embedded within them but not as .lrc files. All i can explain is this:
I use wiki lyrics to find lyrics for songs and then right click copy them and use Tag&Rename and Paste into the mp3 file and save.

Using this method works fine for displaying lyrics when using ipad2's stock music player (pre iOS5) and androids app Poweramp for Samsung galaxy S2 phones and Creatives Ziio 7 tablet (running poweramp). This method also works for my Pc when running foobar and using the 'TextDisplay' component. The Text Display Format in foobar settings are $if2(%unsynced lyrics%,No lyrics available)

It should be noted that when using poweramp and choosing 'Lyrics' it asks where u want to choose to read the lyrics from:
-Auto (from tags if available, otherwise via musixmatch plugin)
-Musixmatch plugin
-From tags

I select the last option (from tags) always and it never fails. ipads player seems to also use this method. The lyrics do not scroll automatically, u need to scroll up and down to read them (should they be longer than the visible screen).

Occasionally lrc plugin wont crash if it actually finds a lrc file embedded in song and works fine. But this rarely happens, perhaps only 10% of my collection has lrc files embedded within them, soon as it goes to next track without one it produces this error.

I just did it again for a different file and a different error.

There is different level audio between Radio and Music Playback with the same db value. Level audio on Music Playback is too low.

I'd recommend replace this

for this

I suggest this because I took a long time before I figured out how it should be properly.

When playing a sequence of two songs Rockbox on my HTC Desire S always crashes. I first had r30576-110921, and now it is r31516-120102. Cropped versions of the songs can be downloaded here:

They still reproducably crash my Rockbox. I found a workaround, though: mp3 versions of the same songs play all right. Rockbox for me still is the only known way to have gapless playback on my phone. Thanks for that guys!

Buy the way: the same ogg files made no problem in Rockbox on my old iPod nano.

Not very long ago I got iPod Nano 2 gen 8gb, installed rockbox and encountered this strange behavior:

After pushing and releasing Hold button player doesn't react on wheel. When I'm trying to use some other button(Menu, for example), nothing happens. After third attempt to use a button Rockbox does button context properly, showing me what I wanted to see a few clicks ago. What happens with interface after using Hold? When I return to 'Now playing' screen throughout Menu, all works fine. But right after using Hold button I can't nor increase/decrease volume, neither move in a menu list.

There are some problems with the quickscreen on the Sansa Fuze. I traced it back to r31246, a text alignment bugfix:

- Quickscreen items flicker a lot and sometimes vanish for half a second on each change of an option.

- Setting the right option (Repeat) to "Shuffle" and then back to something else causes "Shuffle" to stick on screen. Leaving the quickscreen and returning to it reveals the correct setting.

This only happens for longer scrolling strings of text, e.g. "Shuffle" is "Zufallswiedergabe" in German.

When playing my only FLAC album (6 tracks), I can reproduce the following condition at will,
The player hangs in the last track, player does not respond to buttons and only a hard reset will fix it.

I can consistently reproduce the above bug as follows,

I start track 1 and let it play for a few sec's, then FF to 5 sec's before the end of track 1,
let it play the remaining 5 sec's of track 1 and let it change into track 2,
Play a few sec's of track 2, then FF to 5 sec's before the end of track 2, let it change into track 3,
Play a few sec's of track 3, then FF to 5 seconds before the end of track 3, let it play etc… ( I repeat the above until I'm in the last track),
when it has changed into the last track, FF to 5 sec's before the end of the last track and let it play, when play time reaches 1~0 sec's before the end of the last track, the player hangs in that last track with the disk activity light on continuously, player does not respond to buttons and only a hard reset will fix it.

When booting rombox or rockbox from flash on h1x0 with dircache enabled, chances are good that the thing will freeze. This started with r30393 / 7e14b935dfdcd808cfb0703d19a43efd11eeef16.

I'm using Rockbox 3.10 with the 01.02.16 Clip+ Firmware on a Sansa Clip+ 8GB, installed via the installer.

There are a lot of 44kHz/16bit FLAC files stored on the device. During playback it could happen that the next track starts while the current one isn't even close to finished. This can be in the first few seconds or in the middle of the song.

This usually doesn't happen to the same song twice. It's generally a different song each time. When skipping back to the track that was skipped, it usually plays without any problems.

The memory has been checked with CHKDSK and no errors were found. The FLACs play fine in foobar2000 and I'm certain that they are okay.

I do believe the error occurs most often after roughly quarter to half an hour of playback.

This may be related to FS#12208

When turning on my Sansa with Rockbox 3.10, the display sometimes goes all white and stays that way until the screensaver kicks in. The player works fine during that time and can be controlled blindly. After the screen turns off and I turn it on again, the screen works as expected. This does not happen all the time, but very often.

All settings should be listed there (even more so settings which cannot be set through the UI), but root menu order is only described in advanced_topic/main.tex as of now.

Hi, firstly i put Sansa c200 because SansaClip+ is not available in the list.
My player is a Sandisk SansaClip+ bought 6 months ago with an 8Gb class 4 Sandisk microsd (that is currently empty, no songs stored).

Steps to reproduce the issue (after a fresh installation of the Firmware, no settings changed):

1) Switch on
2) → database
3) → track
4) select any track
5) press the central button
6) Erase Dynamic Playlist? is displayed.. Select Yes
7) countdown then starts to play
8) Seek to the next song (it happens at the first seek or might need three, four one after the other)

- I installed version 3.10 on top of version 3.09, but later on I tried to uninstall completely 3.10 and reinstall it from scratch and the issue is the same.

- After the crash i have to keep the "switchoff" button pressed for a while.. then I press it again to restart the player and I try to resume the song I get "playlist control file is invalid" or "nothing to resume"

- behavior is the same with or without the SD card

- The issue was randomly happening (but very very rarely) also on the previous version of the firmware (3.09) I got the error a couple of times in 6 months.

Using the %pL Tag (in WPS) in order to simply display it or use it in a conditional tag (like in the “analog” theme yields very high values (let call it spikes) - where they should not be, while the bar-type peak meter is working fine.

Within the simulator, everithing is running smooth, as far as I could see.

I tried to have a look at the sources but that’s too much at the moment.

Does somebody have a clue ?

When I skip backwards 3 songs, Rockbox aborts with the following dump:

Sorry, not sure in which build part of this ceased to function, but I think it was just prior to 3.10

In the Clip Sim's I can no longer access the Lock Screen. "H" used to do this for me, as I recall.

Also, the charge values in the Clip Sim's no longer incrementally increase and decrease. The charge values used to go from 0 to 100 and then back down again.

This applies to the Clip Zip Sim as well. I haven't tried the Fuze Sim.

When you configure Shortcuts to replace the Quick Screen then there is this unwanted behaviour:
Exiting the Shortcuts menu always returns to the Main Menu, not to the screen from which the Shortcuts menu was invoked by pressing the Quick Screen key combination.

I'm using a Sansa Clip Zip, which hasn't been added to the Player Type list. I've noticed that several MIDI files crash the player, reporting OUT OF MEMORY and MALLOC BARF errors. This is more likely to happen with MIDI files with many instruments, such as orchestral pieces. One example is a MIDI file for Debussy's La Mer. It tries to load all instruments into memory before playing and will crash without playing anything. I don't know if this can be fixed with better memory management or if my player just has too little RAM.

So, I have a Clip Zip at the moment. Been using rockbox on it since day 1, and since day one i've always had an issue: during playback, when accessing files from the SD card, the player randomly freezes. It's not always, it's not when accessing the same files or some specific characteristic shared by them, it just appears to be random. When it freezes, the LCD usually still responds to my commands (i can access menus, see the file info, even change song and it will display in the playback screen), but the actual playback doesn't, and I eventually have to hard reset it. I guess it's some kind of SD compatibility issues: I have an 8GB class 4 PNY. I know it's not the own card's problem since it worked perfectly on my Clip+ and does on my Android Cellphone.
I've been updating daily builds for this device at least once a week since I got it, and it happens with every build.

After updating Rockbox from 3.10 to 3.11.2 on my Ipod Nano 1g i noticed the robotfindskitten game did not work as it should anymore. When robot has touched the first object, the text on the top does not change anymore when touching more objects until he finds kitten. The kitten animation also is hidden behind the text of the first object and the scrolling of the text starts at the end, not at the beginning.
I think it worked fine in 3.10, or at least in 3.9.

Please investigate this problem.

Not sure how long this chronic bug has gone on but at least before the dubious move to git from subversion. I have had trouble on my V2s with freezing (appears like they are loading in the middle of a song but nothing is happening and you can't do anything) while playing and recently freezing when adding tracks to a playlist. I can take the microSD/transflash card out and stick it into a V1 Fuze and there is no problem, it will play forever and never crash. The V2s will crash minutes after playing, sometimes a track will finish, sometimes the same track will get stuck, one time it happened less than a second after beginning to play. No white screen of death, just a soft freeze and a blinking loading indicator. If you fiddle with it it will stop blinking and become utterly unresponsive. Have tried formatting cards, etc. V1 players work fine, V2 players are now junk under this firmware.

I don't know exactly how long this problem has been going on but it has been getting worse. Before the 30,000th SVN release, perhaps somewhere around 28000, I would be getting crashes occasionally with the V2s but nothing like this. My v2 players will unconditionally crash now after a short time. Rockbox is unusable for me on my V2 Fuze players. A lot of digging may be necessary to get to the bottom of this problem because I think it is buried under a lot of newer modifications.

I will not submit any sample music files (I know you guys always ask), this is problem exclusive to AMSv2 and I am sure by now that some Rockbox developers are aware of some issues that could be attributed to this sort of problem.

In Rockbox for Android it is not possible to highlight an entry in a list without selecting (entering) it.

For example, if I am in the playlist viewer showing the list of just playing songs with my ipod (running rockbox) I was able to scroll through the list which moved the higligting bar through the list and then I could select the desired entry by pressing enter. With the touchscreen I found no way only to highlight a certain entry.

This is important if all entries are very long and have the same starting text. For example "Ludwig von Beethoven, Symphony No. 9 - 1. Adagio" cannot be distinguished from "Ludwig von Beethoven, Symphony No. 9 - 2. Andante" in the playlist viewer since the distinguishing part is cut off. With my ipod I could highlight the entries with the scroll wheel and the highlighted line started horizontally scrolling so I could see the complete text. With the Android port I can only touch the line, but touching the line does not only highlight it but also selects it and so starts playing.

This problem also exists in other list with long entries and happens with all version I compiled until now (latest was a12b2a5).
