9260 | Bugs | Applications | Very Low | r18234 - core + plugins shouldnt be calling opendir() d... | 2008-08-10 | Jonathan Gordon | 2008-08-10
Task Description
Only filetree.c should be allowed to call opendir(), anything that needs to recursively scan directories should be calling ft_load() which can smartly open, scan and close a directory.
The problem with this is that the filename buffer could get corrupted easily if its misused.
as of r18234 the following is using opendir() in the core filetree.c:133: dir = opendir(c→currdir); ← not recursive filetree.c:257: dir = opendir(tempdir); ← in ft_load() so ok filetree.c:259: dir = opendir(c→currdir); ← “” “” “” misc.c:164: dir = opendir(pathlen ? buffer : “/”); misc.c:1059: dir = opendir(BOOTDIR); misc.c:1142: DIR* d = opendir(path); onplay.c:466: dir = opendir(dirname); onplay.c:817: srcdir = opendir(src); tagcache.c:4075: dir = opendir(dirname);
the tagcache and the onplay.c ones are dangerous… the 3 in misc.c are not recursive so safe.
the following are uses in plugins, havnt checked them so I only know for sure that stats, disktidy and properties are unsafe plugins/disktidy.c:203: dir = rb→opendir(name); plugins/disktidy.c:270: dir = rb→opendir(name); plugins/md5sum.c:78: dir = rb→opendir( path ); plugins/md5sum.c:113: DIR *dir = rb→opendir( newpath ); plugins/md5sum.c:209: dir = rb→opendir( arg ); plugins/properties.c:79: dir = rb→opendir(tstr); plugins/properties.c:151: dir = rb→opendir(dps→dirname); plugins/properties.c:276: dir = rb→opendir(str_dirname); plugins/random_folder_advance_config.c:70: dir = rb→opendir(fullpath); plugins/random_folder_advance_config.c:165: dir_check = rb→opendir(formatted_line); plugins/rockpaint.c:740: d = rb→opendir( bbuf ); plugins/rockpaint.c:754: d = rb→opendir( “/” ); plugins/rockpaint.c:915: d = rb→opendir( FONT_DIR “/” ); plugins/sokoban.c:925: if(!(dir = rb→opendir(dirname))) plugins/stats.c:139: dir = rb→opendir(fullpath); plugins/test_codec.c:763: dir = rb→opendir(dirpath); plugins/test_disk.c:356: dir = rb→opendir(testbasedir); plugins/test_disk.c:359: rb→splash(HZ, “opendir() failed.”); plugins/test_disk.c:421: if 1) == NULL) plugins/wavrecord.c:3774: if 2) == NULL)
so, The bad calls in the core should be changed to use ft_load, and the plugins should either get a new function in the lib to grab some ram and manage the whole thing, or maybe its safe to just call ft_load there also?
or alternatively, we can go on ignoring the issue.

Task Description
Tested with r19410
If I boot with the headphones plugged in, sound always works (at least I didn’t have it fail yet). If I boot without headhones plugged in, and plug them in later, sound often doesn’t work. This may also depend on whether the player was turned off for a long time, whether the previous boot was USB mode, and whether the headphones were unplugged before or after shutting down.

10830 | Bugs | Configuration | Very Low | iPod Mini firmware often starts with alarm set and shuf... | 2009-12-05 | Jim Henderson | 2009-12-05
Task Description
Build is r23841 and earlier.
Occasionally when I reboot to the iPod firmware, something has caused the previously unset alarm setting to be enabled and the playback mode is set to shuffle. This doesn't happen with every reboot, but does more than 50% of the time.
Steps to duplicate:
1. Disable the alarm and set the shuffle mode to "None" in the iPod firmware. 2. Reset and boot into Rockbox 3. Listen to a few tracks 4. Reboot into the iPod firmware and check the shuffle mode and alarm settings.
I can't confirm 100% yet as to the time on the alarm being reset as well, but it does seem to consistently read 6 AM - which is a bit of a shock if I've been listening in Rockbox during the day and then I reboot into the Apple firmware and dock in my iHome, expecting to sleep in late on the weekend.

Task Description
I like to keep the equalizer on with the precut set to -24db, as a volume limiter. I also like the fade on stop/pause set on. When I pause there is a noticeable ‘click’ sound after the music fades out. Also a click before fading in when I resume.
This was not always the case, but I am not sure how old the version I was using, that did not do this.
By the way, this also occurs on the Gigabeat S, as well as Gigabeat F. I don’t know about other models.
Let me know if you need more information.

Task Description
Currently with r24775-100219 on a Gigabeat 20 Checked that it isn’t something to do with the HDD sometimes after USB transfer or just right after startup, after pressing “Resume playback” it just halts there, showing the album art and sometimes you can change songs/volume but it isn’t playing, then it just freezes and you cannot control anything that needs to be turned off via power switch, and sometimes it requires certain trials before it can normally startup and play. Additionally, if that happens during startup, it is noticeable that a normal startup produces sort of a background noise, while a buggy startup is simply silent in my headphone.

11743 | Bugs | Themes | Very Low | odd %s behavior following %Vf tags | 2010-11-08 | Jim Billy | 2010-11-08
Task Description
I think I have experienced a bug in 3.7+ builds with WPS themes related to %Vf. If you put the %Vf on a new line, the following text is displayed, then cleared, but only if its a scrolling line, if the first line is static it is displayed properly, and subsequent lines are also displayed properly even if they are scrolling
example:
%Vl(b,0,108,176,60,1) %Vf(999999) %s%ac%?Ia<%Ia|> %s%ac%?It<%It|%Fn>
artist is displayed briefly then cleared, if you take out %s artist is displayed properly, if you put the %Vf on the same line with %vl artist is displayed properly with scrolling, if you put a static text line before the first %s line then all lines are displayed properly.
so my quick fix is to just move the %vf on the line with %vl, but this bug probalby breaks many WPS, also this worked before 3.7, not sure when it stopped working. Tested this bug with latest build:r28534-101108 and 3.7 release sansa e200 v1. (also with latest e200 simulator)
this bug was not in builds up to or prior to: r27944-100830

11755 | Bugs | Battery/Charging | Very Low | Battery reports 0% charge even after fully charged in R... | 2010-11-13 | Andy Smith | 2010-11-13
Task Description
URGENT/HIGH PRIORITY: Rockbox Firmware 3.7 installed with iRiver H300 1.29J.
Charging when in Rockbox mode (player switched on):
When Rockbox is running and the charger is plugged in, Rockbox can be seen charging the battery in the top left hand corner. When it is fully charged, it shows a full battery.
Charging when iRiver is powered off (player switched off):
When the charger is plugged in, the iRiver begins charging in Original Firmware mode. This is okay as the player charges correctly until Complete.
Booting into OF mode, shows a full battery charge so I can be sure it is fully charged.
However, boot back into Rockbox mode and Rockbox seems to be misreporting the battery charge as depleted - I say misreporting because at this point I know it is actually full/complete. (Booting back into OF mode would also confirm again at this point that there is indeed a full battery charge).
But run Rockbox 3.7 and after a few minutes, a false message - "Low Battery - Shutting Down" appears, after which Rockbox powers off.
I know this is inccorect, because if the battery was so low in OF, the iRiver OF would not even allow you to attempt to power back on (instead it would display a "Low Battery" picture on the display), but I can boot back into OF mode easily with no problems even after this message from Rockbox, again the OF shows a full battery and I can run it for hours with no problem so I know somewhere here there must be a miscommunication/misreading from the battery charge to the Rockbox 3.7 firmware.
Have tested this a number of times to ensure it is a fault and yes it presents itself everytime.

12109 | Bugs | Playlists | Very Low | iPod 3G screen flickers after boot and resuming playbac... | 2011-05-10 | Steve Yeats | 2011-05-10
Task Description
This occurs on Stable 3.8.1 and all builds currently up to Tuesday, May 10, 2011 (r29850-110510).
When my iPod 3G is powered on with no song in the queue to be resumed, and the "resume Playback" item is selected, the screen flickers, the quick glimpse of the selected Now Playing theme can be seen (for me, DancePuffDuo, but also confirmed for every other one I've tried) and it returns me back to the Main Menu without any warning… just an abrupt return.
I've reinstalled stable as well as various builds leading up to the date above and all have the same effect.
The way to reproduce this bug is to Play a single song from the database that is by itself (in the artist/album category of your choosing, or, the last song in an artist/album grouping) and then, after it is done playing and returns you to the database or main menu, shut down and restart Rockbox. Select the Resume Playback item on the Main Menu. The screen should flicker and abruptly return you to the Main Menu without any warning that there is nothing to resume playing.
This bug does not reproduce with the iPod 3G simulator with 05/10/2011's build (r29850-110510).

12177 | Bugs | FM Tuner | Very Low | Griffin iFM Radio Receiver for iPod (5th Gen) NOT Detec... | 2011-07-02 | Raphael Avital | 2011-07-02
Task Description
Player: iPod Video 5th Gen. (5.5) Rockbox Release v. 3.9 downloaded/installed 06/28/2011
Accessory: Griffin iFM Radio Receiver for iPhone and iPod - has a doc connector, short cable to a "dongle" which is the FM tuner, with earphone jack on the dongle. No batteries or other power source.
Here's a link to the product's Amazon page: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003ERT46W
Booting into Apple firmware 1. Turned player on with nothing plugged in, the "Radio" menu item does not show up. Plugged in the Griffin iFM, the "Radio" menu item shows up, and when I select it, I get the FM frequency and dial, I can tune it, it works. I did not have to download anything at all from the Apple iTunes store.
2. Turned player on with iFM plugged in - the "Radio" menu item shows up, and from there it all works as above.
Booting into Rockbox OS 1. Turned player on with nothing plugged in, then plugged the iFM on the dock connector, the "FM Radio" item never shows up.
2. Turned player on with iFM plugged in, still no "FM Radio" on the menu.
3. Went into System then Debug then FM Radio - got message: "HW Detected: no"
So Rockbox does not detect it at all. And there's no sense expecting that any Apple/iTunes software would do anything under Rockbox.
What's interesting is, that with the player off (under both Apple and Rockbox OS), if I only plug in the Griffin iFM to the dock connector, and do nothing else, the player turns on. So there must be some kind of hardware detection there.
Actual behavior:
1. FM Tuner option never shows up on main menu (whether powering up with FM Tuner plugged in, or plugging in after power up).
2. When player is OFF, connecting the FM Tuner to the dock port turns on the player.
3. In System/Debug/FM Tuner, "HW Detected" is always "no"
Expected behavior: 1. Expected the FM Tuner option to be available on the main menu (at least when booting with the accessory plugged in to the dock port) as described in the manual.
2. Expecting to be able to tune in to FM stations and play at least through the tuner's headphones connector, if not through the player's headphones connector. Other features (displaying song information, presets, etc.) are secondary (to me).

Task Description
On build 30622 and previous builds, there is an issue with resuming playback.
When "Resume Playback" is selected from the menu, you transition into the music control screen but there is no output aside from some crackling noises.
Occasionally, the song would play for half a second before silencing.
The play/pause button during this situation shows a pause symbol which suggests that the song is supposed to play. However, the song progress bar remains at 0:00.
Currently on Cyanogenmod 7.1 nightly, Android version 2.3.5.

12422 | Bugs | User Interface | Very Low | Car adapter mode pause and unpause and headphone unpaus... | 2011-12-01 | Boris Gjenero | 2011-12-06
Task Description
To reproduce, ensure car adapter mode is enabled, start playback, and leave the now playing screen. If the charger isn't connected, connect it now. Then, disconnect the charger, causing a car adapter mode pause. Some parts of the now playing screen will overwrite the current screen. I see this in file view, main menu and settings. The main menu is quickly redrawn and back to normal, but the file view is only redrawn after I do something. Now, reconnect the charger, which causes a car adapter mode unpause after a short delay. The same thing happens.
I've seen this on: - 5G iPod using Firewire power, running 3.10RC and r31106 - Archos Recorder V2 using charger, running 3.10RC and r31106
Edit: The same thing happens with headphone plug-in unpause (but not headphone unplug pause). I expect the problem also happens when using BUTTON_MULTIMEDIA_PLAYPAUSE, but I did not test that.
The problem is due to the pause_action() and unpause_action() calls in apps/misc.c. The second parameter is "bool updatewps". It is true in all cases except headphone unplug pause. I don't know why it's false in that particular case.
The second parameter probably shouldn't be there. The WPS should simply update itself if it is currently displayed.

12455 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Any EQ Low Shelf change from 0.0 causes click at start ... | 2011-12-15 | Julian Hughes | 2011-12-15 | 1 |
Task Description
Hardware: iriver H140, iriver H340, Sansa Clip+
Rockbox version: 3.10 downloaded from http://www.rockbox.org/download/byhand.cgi I have also reproduced bug on official firmwares as old as 3.5.1, and on my own builds.
Settings: 100% default except for enabling EQ and setting an EQ i.e. using graphical EQ to set LS -0.5 at 60Hz or LS +1.5 at 60Hz
Expected behaviour: music track, however loaded, starts in normal way, with no sounds other than those decoded from file. Restarting the track results in the same normal playback.
Actual behaviour: music track starts with an obvious and intrusive click. This happens whether the track is loaded individually, or if it is the first track of an album loaded via .m3u playlist. When using playlist subsequent tracks play normally, without a click. But restarting any track causes the click.
It makes no difference if the EQ Low Shelf Filter settings are a big change from flat, or a tiny difference. To induce the bug it’s enough that EQ is enabled and LS is not set to be flat i.e. just an increment of +/- 0.5 dB is enough, and changing the cut off frequency or the Q factor made no difference.
This bug is noticeable with any track that starts quietly, and especially with tracks from CDs that are not mastered to modern high levels.
The Clip does tend to make its own small click on manual track changes and some button presses; I am not confusing this with the bug I describe. On the irivers I get a single click, while on the Clip I get a very unmusical double click.
I’ve attached my H140 config to illustrate that the config is unremarkable and that apart from the EQ it is at default. If anyone needs me to try stuff or make any changes or try a patch that is fine, but I would prefer it to be on an iriver because the Sansa OF database refresh is so annoying.

They still reproducably crash my Rockbox. I found a workaround, though: mp3 versions of the same songs play all right. Rockbox for me still is the only known way to have gapless playback on my phone. Thanks for that guys!
Buy the way: the same ogg files made no problem in Rockbox on my old iPod nano.

12574 | Bugs | Configuration | Very Low | 3.10 on Clip V2 freezes when selecting another language... | 2012-02-02 | Frank Steinmetzger | 2012-02-02 | 1 |
Task Description
After a lot of trial and error I found out the following.
It appears that 3.10 on my Clip V2 writes a bad nvram.bin file. When I try to set another interface language, my Clip freezes. It does not react to input and the clock in the top line doesn’t update anymore. The FM radio kept on playing though. I haven’t tried all available settings in the menu, just the ones I occasionally use. But the problem never occurred anywhere else, just upon selecting another language.
When I delete nvram.bin, I can set a language. Then I switch the Clip off and on again, and the problem comes back.
See attached the nvram.bin which causes a freeze.
PS.: No Sansa Clip in the Player Type selection on the left.

12591 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Playback of FLAC skips tracks randomly on Clip+ | 2012-02-19 | Thomas M. | 2012-02-19
Task Description
I'm using Rockbox 3.10 with the 01.02.16 Clip+ Firmware on a Sansa Clip+ 8GB, installed via the installer.
There are a lot of 44kHz/16bit FLAC files stored on the device. During playback it could happen that the next track starts while the current one isn't even close to finished. This can be in the first few seconds or in the middle of the song.
This usually doesn't happen to the same song twice. It's generally a different song each time. When skipping back to the track that was skipped, it usually plays without any problems.
The memory has been checked with CHKDSK and no errors were found. The FLACs play fine in foobar2000 and I'm certain that they are okay.
I do believe the error occurs most often after roughly quarter to half an hour of playback.
This may be related to FS#12208

12593 | Bugs | User Interface | Very Low | Display sometimes stays white after turning on | 2012-02-20 | Michael Monreal | 2012-02-20
Task Description
When turning on my Sansa with Rockbox 3.10, the display sometimes goes all white and stays that way until the screensaver kicks in. The player works fine during that time and can be controlled blindly. After the screen turns off and I turn it on again, the screen works as expected. This does not happen all the time, but very often.

Task Description
Using the %pL Tag (in WPS) in order to simply display it or use it in a conditional tag (like in the “analog” theme yields very high values (let call it spikes) - where they should not be, while the bar-type peak meter is working fine.
Within the simulator, everithing is running smooth, as far as I could see.
I tried to have a look at the sources but that’s too much at the moment.
Does somebody have a clue ?

Ralf

12637 | Bugs | Simulator | Very Low | Some Keypress functions and charge increment no longer ... | 2012-04-06 | Cameron Smith | 2012-04-06
Task Description
Sorry, not sure in which build part of this ceased to function, but I think it was just prior to 3.10
In the Clip Sim's I can no longer access the Lock Screen. "H" used to do this for me, as I recall.
Also, the charge values in the Clip Sim's no longer incrementally increase and decrease. The charge values used to go from 0 to 100 and then back down again.
This applies to the Clip Zip Sim as well. I haven't tried the Fuze Sim.
Thanks.

12656 | Bugs | Plugins | Very Low | robotfindskitten game not working properly anymore | 2012-04-28 | Hugo Platzer | 2012-04-28
Task Description
After updating Rockbox from 3.10 to 3.11.2 on my Ipod Nano 1g i noticed the robotfindskitten game did not work as it should anymore. When robot has touched the first object, the text on the top does not change anymore when touching more objects until he finds kitten. The kitten animation also is hidden behind the text of the first object and the scrolling of the text starts at the end, not at the beginning. I think it worked fine in 3.10, or at least in 3.9.
Please investigate this problem. Thanks, Hugo

The settings submenu with the playlist viewer settings like “show icons”, “show indices” and “track display” to select between file name only and full path for playlist entries is not available in the playlist viewer menu in the Android version.
So these settings cannot be changed.

12700 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Crash when stopping playback of ogg vorbis files | 2012-06-18 | Dieter | 2012-06-18
Task Description
Rockbox crashes when stopping playback of ogg vorbis files. This happens both, when I stop playback through long pressing the play button or simply if the last track in the current playlist is finished. It does not happen when stopping playback of mp3 files. Pausing does not cause a crash, only stopping does.
I reported this problem already in FS#12669 which was closed since it was asserted to be fixed, but it wasn't and isn't fixed for me.
The bug occured in version 688302a of 04/08 13:15. All earlier versions (tested back to bb0e4cc of 04/05) are working and later versions are crashing. I just tested current version e5d6e42 and Rockbox still crashes.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S running Android 2.3.7 (CyanogenMod CM7.2.0)

Task Description
Experienced Results: I have 2 folders(lets call them FolderA and FolderB) each containing audio files. FolderA and FolderB are both on the root of my drive Neither one has a database.ignore file in it. I go to settings → general settings → database → update now All files are added to the database as expected …But i realize i dont want FolderB to show up in the database. I add a database.ignore file at /FolderB/database.ignore Then I go back in and update the database again(settings → general settings → database → update now) all of my audio files still show up in the database(including the ones in FolderB with the database.ignore file)
Expected Results: After adding the database.ignore file to FolderB and updating the database(settings → general settings → database → update now) the audio files in FolderB should no longer appear in the database
Summery: Any files in a folder containing a database.ignore file should be removed from the database on update

12749 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Android Tablet with Froyo: Playback pauses briefly ever... | 2012-09-07 | Thomas Heuving | 2012-09-07
Task Description
On my newly purchased (but used) Archos Internet Tablet 70 250GB with Android Version 2.2.? (Froyo) I installed the daily build of rasher. Everything works so far, but playback of MP3 (mostly 160 Kbit CBR and ~200 Kbit VBR) pauses briefly every 2 to 3 minutes. I just reformatted the drive, which now has ext3 and that seems to end the pause which I got on FAT32 after ~4 Seconds of every new song, but every 3 minutes or so the playbacks stops for about a second - very annoying. Don't tried other codecs as I don't own any files other than MP3. I was in the developers menu during one of this pauses, looking at the list of the contributors. The old names fly away to the right, but this was frozen also during this one second timespan - as if the rockbox-process was paused entirely or so.

12771 | Bugs | FM Tuner | Very Low | FMS display problem when using themes that exhibit radi... | 2012-10-19 | Terry Layton | 2012-10-19 | 4 |
Task Description
Device: Sansa Fuze v2 (stable port) Rockbox Release: 3.12
Recently I have been noticing a problem with themes that allow radio station logos to be displayed on the FMS screen. This is most noticeable with the analog and Fuzemod themes. While the logo displays properly, other images on the screen do not. In the case of the analog theme, the VU meter appears corrupted and with the Fuzemod theme the battery animation, tuning bar slider and playmode indicator icons fail to appear as expected. This problem was not present when either of these themes was used with the releases before version 3.12. In fact this bug appears to have been introduced by one of the experimental daily development builds either in May or June. I have tried different sets of radio station logos and preset lists with these themes but I always get the same result when using version 3.12; everything is fine with any previous release. Since this problem occurs with two different themes along with any combination of radio station logos and preset lists, I can only conclude that it originates with the firmware.
I have attached to this report three generic radio station logos in bitmap format along with a generic preset list. You can put these into /.rockbox/fmpresets and try your own tests. Since the frequencies were selected at random, don’t expect them to tune in anything. Besides, there is nothing wrong with the ability of the Rockbox firmware to tune in radio stations or play their music. The problem starts as soon as the user starts flipping through the station presets, so don’t be shy about changing the station frequently during your tests. I also find that in order to accurately reproduce this problem the Sansa Fuze v2 should be powered off then on again whenever a new theme or preset list is loaded.
