7904 | Bugs | Applications | Very Low | Disable shut down on Rockpaint for iPod & Suggestions | 2007-10-08 | Mark | 2012-01-11 | 1 |
Task Description
Holding the Pause button (to move/paint down) will shut down rockbox.
This shutdown combination should be disabled for Rockpaint!
While I’m at it (and you can put this in a different Flyspray if you want), I suggest that we make use of the iPod scrollwheel somehow in Rockpaint, maybe to change the size or shape of the brush or something and/or in the menus.
I would also like to be able to set the colour of the background to start with.

8816 | Bugs | User Interface | Very Low | Extra button press required to continue browsing menus | 2008-03-28 | Ivan Komarov | 2010-08-05 | 1 |
Task Description
When utilizing the database on the iPod Photo (as well as other 4G iPods I have used), on occasion when entering a directory or going to the parent directory, any button on the iPod will need to be pressed before the others will have effect. I.E. before I can scroll to select a song, I must press Select or one of the other wheel buttons. It is severely annoying, in part because it is too sporadic to even be assumed to be a “feature”.

9775 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Premature and multiple storage_sleep() in buffering.c | 2009-01-10 | Boris Gjenero | 2011-11-11 | 1 |
Task Description
While examining disk performance with FS#9708 , I found one album where the disk stayed spinning with no activity for 5 s longer when using PIO. This is repeatable with that particular album. With the downloaded r19739-090109 build, this did not happen with the default settings but it started happening as soon as I enabled dircache. Prolonging the disk timeout prolongs the extra sleeping time.
Experimentation with shows that the storage_sleep() part of fill_buffer() (in apps/buffering.c) is executed early in the buffering and it is not executed at the end. With another album where spindown happens properly, ata_sleep() is called twice. Note that ata_sleep() just sets last_disk_activity, and sleep happens over half a second later if there is no disk activity during that period and last_user_activity has timed out.
I think this is a race condition based on how dircache and transfer rates change things. I wonder if it is related to FS#9541 .
The data mentioned is located at http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pkeRcfM0sg949P3a5EYXtew and the delayed spindown is seen in the EP7 PIO test. In that data, also note how sectors written are 5, 10 or 15, with differences between different tests with the same album.
I have a 30GB 5th generation iPod, but I expect this issue affects all SW-codec players.

9822 | Bugs | Playlists | Very Low | RB sometimes forgets where it is in a playlist and that... | 2009-01-23 | Jeff Nemic | 2009-04-16 | 1 |
Task Description
Sometimes when I shut my unit off and then turn it on again and resume playback, RB resumes from a different place than where it left off, and even though when I resume shuffle is on (as indicated by its icon), it isn’t. It’ll play the current track, then the next track in the playlist (which in my case is in order by track number, so it’ll play the next track on the album), and so on.
If I turn shuffle off and then on again, shuffle works correctly again.
I’m using a build from January 19 (19800-090119) on an Archos Recorder. I noticed this bug occurring in the 3.1 build as well.
It seems to happen randomly – I can’t figure out anything specifically that I can do to always make it happen.

After releasing hold after several minutes of playback with hold enabled, the backlight flickers on and off, if the following settings are enabled:

Happened as recently as today, with r21438. Reports in IRC said it appeared somewhere between 3.0 and 3.1.

10874 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | no track will play after playing a deleted, semi-buffer... | 2009-12-24 | Johannes Linke | 2012-05-03 | 1 |
Task Description
to reproduce:
1. start a big (20mb or more) track. delete it immidiately after starting it. 2. let the song play until it stops. i guess it stops at the end of the buffer. as an alternative you can ff to the end of the track (which shouldn't be buffered) 3. now you're not able to play any track. if you select a new one from the file browser or database, the wps will show up, but nothing is played and the progress bar won't progress. ff and rw also don 't work. only rebooting helps. shutting down needs really long (~15s).
if you delete a fully buffered song, everything works as expected (well, the song continues till the end, and the next song starts. some devs call that "expected" :D ).
tested with r24091 and an e200, although i guess that the bug is target independent and occurs in the last few thousand revisions :)

11286 | Bugs | Plugins | Very Low | PictureFlow segfault when showing tracklist or playing ... | 2010-05-17 | Chris Savery | 2010-05-25 | 1 |
Task Description
I've been working on PictureFlow - WPS Integration. I repeatedly had cases where showing a tracklist or playing for certain albums would cause a segfault. I tracked this down to a bug in the track list indexing. It only occurs under certain memory allocation circumstances that doesn't occur as readily with the std build. I have attached here a patch to fix it.
Explanation: the create_track_index requests memory for building a track index. The variable "tracks" references an array descending from the buffer top end. When a reallocation occurs it currently only moves the "tracks" position when a track count > 0. However, in some cases a reallocation occurs before the first track is stored and in that case the "tracks" position gets left in the middle of the track_names data causing corruption and then segfault. I've moved the (track_count > 0) decision so that it only controls moving tracks struct data. The "tracks" offset must happen even when track_count is 0.
This patch fixes the segfault on my Sansa Fuze v2 and in UISim. Tested against r26114. I would expect the same result in other platforms.
I've also included this bug fix in my PictureFlow - WPS Integration patch until this bug fix gets accepted.

11355 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Auto-Change Directory crashes hardwarecodec players | 2010-06-05 | Marianne Arnold | 2012-01-14 | 1 |
Task Description
When the option “Auto-change directory” is enabled, my Ondio crashes at the end of the current folder’s playlist when it would have to create a new one.
The error it shows is “I09: CPUAdrEr at 09010FF8”. The address varies a bit with the actual revision, this example is with r26246 and an OndioFM backlight build (but the problem is present in plain SVN builds too). Looking at the map file shows that the crash happens in the cue_find_current_track function.
Bisecting build turned up that the error was introduced with the cuesheet rework in r21978/9 and the fix in 21982 fixed usual folder playback but not auto-change directory. It is reproducible on the Archos Recorder so I assume a general hwcodec problem.

Task Description
Hello.
I found that bookmarks which was automaticaly created (by the function Bookmark on Stop with set to Ask) from tagcache don’t work. Problem is in missing path to file in bmark file. I made more test and now I attach bmark where first line/bookmark is from tagcache and second line/bookmark is from files browser. Both are on approximately same time.
I testted on Sansa c250 and Sansa Fuse2 with Rockbox r27481-100718.
Can anybody from developers focused on it, please.
Much more thanks. Salaba

Task Description
In my customized rockbox theme, there is a short (half second?) but irritating delay before the progressbar is drawn. This delay is apparent when pressing a button to turn on the backlight, so it doesn’t show up in the simulator. Here is a video of the issue happening: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LAfW8-BjjE
I’ve tried moving the progressbar to the very top of the wps. I also tried changing the wps around to have each icon in a seperate viewport which didn’t help.
I’m using rockbox version 27667.

Task Description
This bug already stands for a while and was reported in IRC but since nothing happened so far, I’m going to report it here.
On targets with early USB (”usual” looking USB screen when plugging from off-state and probably only hardware bridge USB) the statusbar that should be there in the screen is missing and when you disconnect the player so that the “rest” of Rockbox would start, it crashes.
The address where the crash happens with the build currently flashed to my Ondio is in “lib/libskin_parser.a(skin_parser.o)” - more exactly “9035954: 8b fb bf 903594e <_skin_parse+0×152>”. I pastebinned the complete disassembly of the _skin_parse function here: http://pastebin.com/LZMNW96a .
I will also try to find the exact revision that introduced the bug but that’ll take a while. If I remember correctly it came with some statusbar skinning commit which is already a while ago now and crept up twice in a row (first was fixed, then it came back). Plus it is not the easiest and no quick task testing flashed builds on the Ondio….

Hello,
with r28861the touchscreen works with glitches. When I touch a line-item , the system sometimes don't react or the line selector just "twinkle".
My conjecture: It has somethin to do with the new "kinetic-scroll"-feature, because after a little kinetic-scroll the touch become precise.

The changes are also not written to the main config file on disk so they do not "stick" after Rockbox has been rebooted.
example syntax to toggle EQ on/off (display DOES get toggled): %T(148,520,54,46,setting_dec,eq enabled) %T(148,520,54,46,&setting_inc,eq enabled) %xl(E,eq.bmp,0,0) %V(148,520,54,46,-) %?St(eq enabled)<%xd(E)|>

Task Description
r29445 introduced problems with screendump on sansa e200 and e200v2 (and possibly more). Screendump works properly with r29444.
Steps to reproduce:
1. delete or backup existing .rockbox directory 2. install r29445 (or later) 3. reboot 4. navigate to System → Debug (Keep Out!) → Screendump and press select to enable 5. attach USB cable to trigger screendump
On e200, this results in: *PANIC* Stkov usb (0)
on e200v2, this results in a deadlock - no keypad response - backlight & button light never timeout. Upon reboot, multiple dump files exist.
On e200v2 only, when dircache is disabled, screendump will function properly.

This is a post that another user put in the forums that pretty much describes the problems I'm having exactly:
" I have a v1 sansa fuze and been using rockbox since 3.8.1 first came out.I just upgraded to 3.9,did not mess with a-n-y setting at all,pc is windows vista (latest sp).Whenever i drag and drop folders with mp3s in them(be it 58 mb or 300 mb or 600 mb) it starts to copy but halfway through, the process just freezes, clicking cancel freezes the windows explorer for 10 seconds then cancels it.Even worse, when i go check out my sansa fuze at my computer,it's recognized but when i click on it,shows as empty!? so i disconnect safely, theeeen….device needs a hard reset. So i say ok this has happened once or twice before but guess what? it happened again…5 TIMES each on 3 different usb ports.Uninstalled rockbox, went back to official firmware and it's all normal…
So i changed the screen to be always on during plugged in and this is the error i get
data abort at 30054264 FSR 0x8 ( domain 0, fault 8 ) address 0xA00000BF "
I am running Windows 7 64-bit and experiencing the same issues. If the player doesn't lock outright, it gives the same error white screen described above. This seems to happen more frequently when copying folders that contain folders themselves, but I've had the problem occur on copying just one folder with no subfolders.

12208 | Bugs | Codecs | Very Low | Sansa Clip v2 FLAC playback skips regularly | 2011-07-28 | Peter King | 2019-08-04 | 1 |
Task Description
I am reopening FS#11501 - Sansa Clip v2 FLAC playback skips regularly, which was closed because a sample file was not provided. I didn't think this was necessary because I stated it happened regularly with just about any file.
I am currently on build 30217. It skipped for me last night on this track: http://www.archive.org/download/johnbutlertrio2011-07-24.lsdII.flac16/johnbutlertrio2011-07-24_lsdII_t07.flac
I cannot attach the track to this ticket because it is larger than 2mb.
Again, it is nothing inherent in that track: a second playthrough did not skip. That 16-bit/44.1khz track was generated with FLAC 1.2.1b using normal procedures.
This problem has occurred for any build I've ever tried on a clip v2 player.
Here is my original problem statement:
Build 27566 (and all previous builds), Sansa Clip v2.
playback of 16-bit/44khz FLAC format regularly will skip ahead to next track.
in a 60 minute playback session, it'll probably happen 2-3 times. this is not due to a defect in the FLAC files. it happens with any FLAC set I attempt.
this does not happen with the Clip v1 on the same build number.
this is my first bug submitted. I searched for duplicate reports but didn't find anything.
thank you!

12417 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Audio crackling problem on Fuze v2 | 2011-11-30 | Tucker Cane | 2012-07-30 | 1 |
Task Description
I have RockBox version 3.9 on my Sansa Fuze v2 and so far I love it, but I have one problem. On a few tracks in my library, when I play them, the first few minutes of the song will be strangely distorted. Most of them are songs where the music starts off in just one of the speakers before moving into the other one. There will be bursts of loud, crackly noise in the other speaker during these first few seconds (that seem to be in time with the music) and then it will fix itself and the rest of the song will play perfectly. When I boot the default Sandisk firmware the songs play perfect like they should, it is only in RockBox that this glitch happens. I’ve messed with the settings a bit and even reset them completely, but nothing has worked thus far.
Attached is one of the songs that this happens with, from about 2 seconds in to about 7 seconds in. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really want to enjoy my music without that crap in it.

12455 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Any EQ Low Shelf change from 0.0 causes click at start ... | 2011-12-15 | Julian Hughes | 2011-12-15 | 1 |
Task Description
Hardware: iriver H140, iriver H340, Sansa Clip+
Rockbox version: 3.10 downloaded from http://www.rockbox.org/download/byhand.cgi I have also reproduced bug on official firmwares as old as 3.5.1, and on my own builds.
Settings: 100% default except for enabling EQ and setting an EQ i.e. using graphical EQ to set LS -0.5 at 60Hz or LS +1.5 at 60Hz
Expected behaviour: music track, however loaded, starts in normal way, with no sounds other than those decoded from file. Restarting the track results in the same normal playback.
Actual behaviour: music track starts with an obvious and intrusive click. This happens whether the track is loaded individually, or if it is the first track of an album loaded via .m3u playlist. When using playlist subsequent tracks play normally, without a click. But restarting any track causes the click.
It makes no difference if the EQ Low Shelf Filter settings are a big change from flat, or a tiny difference. To induce the bug it’s enough that EQ is enabled and LS is not set to be flat i.e. just an increment of +/- 0.5 dB is enough, and changing the cut off frequency or the Q factor made no difference.
This bug is noticeable with any track that starts quietly, and especially with tracks from CDs that are not mastered to modern high levels.
The Clip does tend to make its own small click on manual track changes and some button presses; I am not confusing this with the bug I describe. On the irivers I get a single click, while on the Clip I get a very unmusical double click.
I’ve attached my H140 config to illustrate that the config is unremarkable and that apart from the EQ it is at default. If anyone needs me to try stuff or make any changes or try a patch that is fine, but I would prefer it to be on an iriver because the Sansa OF database refresh is so annoying.

Task Description
When using an image in a theme it shows ugly gradients/dithering, as if it was only 16 bit. When the same image however is used as backdrop (%X tag, instead of ‘regular’ %xl and %xd), it looks smooth and 24 bit.
Attached image shows the issue. Top half shows what Rockbox does when the image is loaded via %xl and %xd. Bottom half shows how the image should look like (and how it does indeed look when it’s used as a %X backdrop).
Tested on a Cowon D2 simulator and on an Android device running RaaA.

The .ape file I join make rockbox produce a horrible noise (like random audio) when seeking inside it. The original file was very large, so I created this one with: dd if=original.ape of=test.ape bs=512 count=1000 So the produced file may not be correct, but it plays correctly in rockbox, and reproduces the bug, so I join it…

12558 | Bugs | Settings | Very Low | Some core_alloc users do not handle failures | 2012-01-22 | Lorenz | 2012-01-30 | 1 |
Task Description
If loading a config file that holds all configuration settings (Settings → Manage Settings - Save .cfg File) from Rockbox 3.9.1 in Rockbox 3.10 or the daily builds for Archos Recorder with Firmware V3, the player will not bootup correctly on the next restart and show:
I 4: IllInstr
directly at booting. I then press "On" again and get:
*PANIC* Stkov main
and the HD shuts down. If I press "On" again, the same loop continues.
The problem can only be resolved by plugging the player to USB, removing the rockbox directory and copying it again from the newest daily build or 3.10, then restart. It boots up fine again then. Doing the previous settings manually on 3.10 or the daily builds and then saving / loading them works fine and the player won´t have the boot-bug anymore.
I have attached the config file that creates the problem.

12574 | Bugs | Configuration | Very Low | 3.10 on Clip V2 freezes when selecting another language... | 2012-02-02 | Frank Steinmetzger | 2012-02-02 | 1 |
Task Description
After a lot of trial and error I found out the following.
It appears that 3.10 on my Clip V2 writes a bad nvram.bin file. When I try to set another interface language, my Clip freezes. It does not react to input and the clock in the top line doesn’t update anymore. The FM radio kept on playing though. I haven’t tried all available settings in the menu, just the ones I occasionally use. But the problem never occurred anywhere else, just upon selecting another language.
When I delete nvram.bin, I can set a language. Then I switch the Clip off and on again, and the problem comes back.
See attached the nvram.bin which causes a freeze.
PS.: No Sansa Clip in the Player Type selection on the left.

12678 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Unable to play WMA Pro (possibly VBR) | 2012-05-18 | Albert Meltzer | 2012-05-20 | 1 |
Task Description
The player (Sansa Clip Zip) appears to refuse or unable to play some of my WMA tracks; as far as I can tell, the problem is specific to my WMA Pro files only as it plays none of them (but works with WMA2 successfully). I have attached one of the examples.
I understand that a similar issue was reported recently (in FS#12619 ) although, in my case, the player doesn’t start playing and skips to the next immediately, rather than playing part of the track.

12759 | Bugs | Themes | Very Low | Various RDS issues (Clip Zip, YP-R0) | 2012-09-30 | Ludovic Jacques | 2015-02-25 | 1 |
Task Description
I noticed various RDS-related issues on my Clip Zip and Samsung R0
1) Sansa Clip Zip With the latest builds (for example version 341e2c4-120929) I noticed the RDS text just behaves crazy, like blinking for no reason and displaying strange characters. Besides, the RDS name won't display most of time or at least needs much time to display. When reverting back to an older build (0c4bd3a-120406 for example), the RDS name displays quickly and for all stations now and the RDS text is just displaying and scrolling normally. Tested and noticed with my theme lebellium Samsung -like: http://themes.rockbox.org/index.php?themeid=1681 and with the various DFKT Minimum Zip themes (this one for example: http://themes.rockbox.org/index.php?themeid=1539 ) screenshots of the issue: http://imageshack.us/a/img855/8724/dump120926124155.png http://imageshack.us/a/img837/2154/dump120926124439.png
2) Samsung YP-R0 In addition to the RDS issues reported for the Zip above that also exist on the R0, it seems that the RDS text makes the device crash after a few seconds or minutes with my theme lebellium Samsung-like (version 1.60 beta to download in attachment). I found 2 unsatisfying ways to bypass this annoying crash: -Remove the %s scrolling tag for the RDS text, that is to say replace "%s%ac%tz" by "%ac%tz". But that's not a good solution since then the RDS text is cut off. The %tz tag only makes sense when associated with a %s tag and all other themes supporting RDS use it and work well that way. -Replace the RDS text font (currently 20-DroidSans-Bold.fnt) by another font from the Rockbox Font Pack. As I want a nice anti-aliased font, the only acceptable alternative I found is the Ubuntu Bold font. But this font makes the device crash too…
So I just hope there is a bug somewhere that can be fixed?

12805 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Digital squeaks on certain tracks while playback clip+ | 2013-01-18 | Lorenzo | 2013-01-18 | 1 |
Task Description
Rockbox versions: all from 3.7 to 3.12
There are really loud and annoying digital squeaks during playback on some tracks only (wma 64-96kbps). Usually the noise occurs when one channel is silent or almost. The problem doesn't occur with the OF. It makes no difference where the song is stored (sd or internal memory). The same tracks play fine on the pc. I attach a portion of a song I've recorded while playing on the device where the noise can be clearly heard.

12808 | Bugs | Battery/Charging | Very Low | [WIP] New vgm streamed music plugin powered by vgmstrea... | 2013-01-25 | Mauricio Garrido | 2013-01-25 | 1 |
Task Description
Hi there,
this is another WIP plugin that I wrote last year. It plays videogame streamed music
using the UADE library. Original homepage here: sourceforge.net/projects/vgmstream/
I'm a bit new to git so please forgive me for not uploading a proper patch.
To test the plugin, simply copy the rockstream folder to the plugins folder in
rockbox sources. And you have to extract the data.zip file in the .rockbox folder.
The formats.db found in data.zip is basically a list with all vgmstream supported
extensions (at least "all" by the time I wrote the plugin). You can add or remove
new or unwanted extensions there. The plugin will only handle the extensions found
in the formats.db.
Currently the plugin works as a viewer plugin, and there is only one extension associated
with the plugin in viewers.config for testing purposes, but you can always use the
'open with' option from rockbox. Once you open a file the plugin will parse all supported
files found in the same folder.
The vgmstream project is updated quite often, if someone wants to
update the core library, I believe that would be very easy, since I only changed a couple
of things to it.
I'm not going to work on this anymore, so I decided to upload it here, and hope someone
can make a proper patch and maybe some dev would be interested in testing it, make
the necessary changes and upload an stable release.
As a last comment, I have only tested the plugin in the simulator, samsungypr0, fuze+
and ipod nano. It only worked in the simulator and samsungypr0, so hope someone can
fix that.
Please read the README file for some additional info about the plugin.
Working on: simulator and samsungypr0

12815 | Bugs | Plugins | Very Low | Fuze+ Rockboy data aborts on menu key press, when the s... | 2013-01-29 | BenjaminReedBrown | 2020-07-03 | 1 |
Task Description
This bug is sporatic “the worst kind”, has effected a 4gb fuze+ “foolsh in IRC” and an 8gb fuze+ “DmL in IRC“, but also has been confirmed to be absent from one other 4gb fuze+
Rockboy data aborts on menu key press, when the srceen is rotated left and image is stretched across the whole srceen. Also no matter what key is mapped to the menu entry it will still fail.
It never fails when aspect ratio is maintained with scale or when not scaled at all, and never aborts when rotated right or not at all.
Only four files even mention rotate in the apps/plugins/rockboy/ directory “lcd.c menu.c rockmacros.h and sys_rockbox.c”
Sometimes the failure does not happen and reaching the menu is possible, but the rockboy option file may get written and not allow the user back into the menu later to change the rotate option back. When this happens the option file must be edited or erased to make rockboy work again normally.

12869 | Bugs | Codecs | Very Low | ClipV1 opus file playback: no metadata, and some (low b... | 2013-06-06 | Ivan Privaci | 2014-08-25 | 1 |
Task Description
First noticed the issue in the previous dev build, and just confirmed in 15fa7f8.
When playing .opus files, no metadata is displayed. Some files (92kbit stereo music files so far) do play fine otherwise. Others induce crashes upon attempting to play. An example is attached.
First test, I played a couple of music files successfully, then tried to play the attached file. System crashed immediately showing the following: “Undefined instruction pc:30000002 sp:300632[display cuts off here] bt end”
Powered off, restarted, and tried to play the attached file immediately. After a second or so of audio, player crashed again: “Undefined instruction pc:08180002 sp:302029[display cuts off here] bt end”
On the previous dev build, I was getting similar errors if I tried to play the attached file (or several other similar ones) after successfully playing other files, but would get a black-screen crash if I tried to play it immediately on powerup (this is not what is happening on 15fa7f8).
I am NOT experiencing these problems on another AMSv1 player (Sansa c240 [”c200v1”]) with the same dev build, so this may be specific to the Clipv1. On the c240 with both the previous build and 15fa7f8, metadata displays fine and the attached file plays without any apparent error.

12961 | Bugs | Operating System/Drivers | Very Low | Rockbox Android runs on emulator but not on my phone. | 2014-03-18 | Deo Favente | 2014-04-20 | 1 |
Task Description
For the last couple of weeks, I can’t get Rockbox to run anymore on my phone. I use Rasher’s build, which used to work fine. I even built one on my own, but it still doesn’t work. I tried running it on the emulator and it worked fine. I am not sure what is wrong, reading the logcat gets me nowhere because I don’t really understand most of it. I have attached the logcat here. I do not know if I’m the only one having this problem.
I tried various method to get it working again on my phone, I even tried resetting my phone in case if I messed up somewhere. I also noticed this when I was trying out another ROM for my phone, which runs on Gingerbread 2.3.7. I thought it was the ROM’s problem, so I changed back to the ROM that I frequently use, which used to had no problems at all running Rockbox. The last working build was on 01 March 2014, after that, nothing works anymore on my phone.
The only possibility that I can think of is that my phone is outdated and the kernel or the ROM is missing something crucial to run the latest Rockbox builds. Other than that, I have no idea. I hope the logcat attached could help you identify this problem. Thank you in advance.
Build version: 915bc09-140318 Last working build (on phone): unknown revision, dated 01 March 2014 Phone: Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Android: 4.1.2 Jelly Bean (CyanogenMod 10) Emulator: 4.1.2 (API 16) with same screen dimension.
