12277PatchesThemesVery LowWPS tags for the list item number and the "divisible" o...2011-09-13Alexander Levin82011-09-182 Task Description

The patch adds two new WPS tags:

1. %Ln yields the number of the list item currently being drawn

2. The operator "/?" (which can be used in the %if tag) yields the string "div" if the first operant is divisible by the second and NULL otherwise.

With these two additions it should be possible to create themes where list items are coloured alternately (as an example).

The whole work has been done by gevaerts on 2011-09-12 (and all the credits also go to him), I only placed the patch to the patch tracker, changed the operator from "/" to "/?", and changed the function name from "skinlist_get_item" to "skinlist_get_item_number".

He posted the patch on the binpaste and it would be pity if it got lost.

12490PatchesID3 / meta dataVery LowWPS tag for number of channels2011-12-27Frank Gevaerts32011-12-282 Task Description

This patch adds a %ch tag that returns the number of channels in the current file.

Unfortunately, the large majority of codecs don't fill in this field in struct mp3entry. In the codecs covered by the rockbox testfiles collection, only atrac, cook and tta actually work.

I don't think it makes much sense to commit this with so few supported codecs, so help is appreciated on the codec side of things

11864PatchesPluginsVery LowWorking LUA Flashcard Program2011-01-07Steve42011-04-294 Task Description

I have written a basic flashcard program for LUA and am attaching source code and an example data file. I am using a Sansa Clip+ so YMMV. It uses ANKI format text files which are tab delimited txt. You may use UTF8 for the flashcard if you have your device set as such. To use, save the two included text files in the same directory and run. The card data file, Russian.txt, is a typically UTF8 encoded text file exported straight from ANKI with no modifications. I am using a size 8-fixed font in the screen shots.

Things I would like to see done:

1. Making the code more generic to run on all rockbox platforms.

2. If someone would tell me how to play vorbis files from LUA on a clip+, I might be able to implement playing the vocabulary words as they are displayed on the device. I am already parsing the audio file names from the database, but I need a function to play them.

3. If LUA/Rockbox supported SQLite, It might be possible to read and write native ANKI database with scheduling information. This would facilitate programming of advanced flashcard scheduling for efficient learning.

4. A menu to select different databases.

Looking forward to feedback!

9059PatchesFont/charsetVery LowWenQuanYi Unibit font2008-05-31William Poetra Yoga Hadisoeseno2008-05-313 Task Description

This font is part of the WenQuanYi Project at [1]. It’s in Chinese, but there’s an english page at [2].

I’m adding this font because:
1. Currently there is no good Chinese font for Rockbox.
2. The best Chinese font (unifont) has unevenly sized Chinese characters, while this font has uniformly sized Chinese characters.

The attachments contain screenshots of the simulator, to show how this font would look like on the iPod Nano. I’ve also attached a screenshot using the Unifont font to show the uneven sizes of Chinese characters, for comparison. I don’t know about other languages, but I’d think other CJK languages work better in this font as well, due to the merging of WenQuanYi Bitmap Song.

According to the project[3], this font is made by combining the GNU Unifont (GPL), WenQuanYi Bitmap Song (GPL) and Fixed-16×8 (Public Domain) fonts. The maintainer of GNU Unifont also acknowledges this fact at [4].

This font is licensed under the GPLv2 with a font embedding exception[3]:

modify this font, you may extend this exception to your version of
the font, but you are not obligated to do so. If you do not wish to
do so, delete this exception statement from your version.
[/quote]

I don’t mind either way, but it would be up to Rockbox developers whether to strip off this exception. And either way, the font is compatible with Rockbox’s license (GPLv2).

The font I’m attaching is a modified version (and only the bdf); you can download the original version from [5]. My modification is:

This font is part of the WenQuanYi Project at [1]. It’s in Chinese, but there’s an english page at [2]. This font is similar to the WenQuanYi Unibit font (FS#9059) and focuses mostly on ASCII and CJK, but I’m also posting this font for inclusion because this one has different point sizes, like for example the nimbus, Sazanami and ProFont fonts already included in Rockbox. With the different point sizes, especially lower point sizes, this font is great for small screens such as my iPod Nano.

I’m attaching some screenshots of this font under various point sizes and weights. I’ve also taken screenshots with the simulator to show how it would look like in Rockbox.

Additionally, this font is available from the original website at [3]. There is also an online README file at [4]. The source BDF files are available from the project’s SourceForge page at [5], and the BDF files I’m attaching come from the source package at [6].

According to the project[4], this font is a derivation of older free fonts and enhanced with bitmaps made by online users. As such, it is licensed under the GPLv2 with a font embedding exception[4]:

9053PatchesOperating System/DriversVery LowUsing Volume Labels as Mount Points2008-05-30Reinhard Enders62010-06-066 Task Description

I’m using several SD-cards with my Sansa. When switching cards
and updating the database the db entries of other cards are lost
(unless saved to the database log).

In order to differentiate between files from different cards the
easiest way is to give them different path names. So instead of
mounting each card to <microSD1> this patch takes the volume label
i.e. ‘Classic1’ of the filesystem and mounts it to <Classic1>.

The database update is modified in a way that it erases only entries
for files with a filename of a mounted filesystem. So data of other
cards isn’t erased.

So far the database search isn’t modified to handle nonexisting files,
you still get albums etc. which are currently unavailable.
The patch only makes sure that nonexisting files aren’t entered into
the current playlist.

The patch is only activated for Sansa e200, as I couldn’t test it for
other players.

If the option is set to "Yes", USB connection causes RB to enter charging mode, unless the specified button is pressed, causing RB to switch into data xfer mode.

9948PatchesLanguageVery LowUse sentence case in english.lang2009-02-23Dave Chapman72009-03-111 Task Description

This patch attempts to permanently fix the inconsistent mixture of “Title Case” and “Sentence case” in english.lang by applying “Sentence case” to the entire file.

I suggested we do this in a post to the rockbox-dev mailing list last year, but that just ended in a very split discussion with no conclusion.

I’m not sure if this patch wil result in anything different, but I made it for my own use, and thought I would post it, as there were a fair number of posters to that discussion that also prefered sentence case.

The old discussion:

EDIT: I forgot to say this patch also changes a couple of uses of “center” to “centre”…

12125PatchesOperating System/DriversVery LowUse persistent dircache without HAVE_EEPROM_SETTINGS2011-05-22Rosso Maltese62011-07-063 Task Description

The patch allows to use the persistent dircache even in targets that do not define HAVE_EEPROM_SETTINGS.

Starting trying to implement such a feature for my iPod Video, I "discovered" the functions dircache_load/save (I have a slight knowledge of the RB software). Investigating why it was not used on my target, I saw that it's conditioned to the define HAVE_EEPROM_SETTINGS without an apparently reason to limit them just to some targets.
So, I simply "detach" the functions definition and use from the define.
I'm using it since an hour, starting up and shutting down the DAP various times, jumping back and forth inside the dynamic play list, and I got no problems at all.

If I guess correctly the code, the dircache should be updated also when changing the DAP content, if the USB connection is done by RB and not the OF.

It's applied to r29907.

This patch adds an option to allow the Fastforward/Rewind buttons to be used to skip tracks entirely.

This is an itch of mine that I scratched and am offering up to others if you are interested.

I’ve been using audio lessons to learn Japanese and ran into issues navigating with the normal FF/RW buttons. The acceleration based on track length left me with no sense of time since I don’t keep track of how far I am into my 30 minute long lessons. Simply backing up 5 seconds to catch something I missed was a problem because I’d have to look at what I was doing to see how far I’d ff/rw. Kinda hard when one tick moves 30 seconds too. This is problematic when driving! The existing skip-length feature is really good for this. However, if I use that to skip 5 second increments then I abandon any way of skipping entire tracks. So I re-purposed the FF/RW buttons for skipping tracks and use skip-length for navigating within a track.

I’ve been using this in r27841 for about a week on my Gigabeat, but it seems like it should work for r27942 as well.

Update to my tools/talkclips.py script. Minor updates which include:
- Better handling of logfile eg. we don't leave it open as was the case
before
- Report a few more details in the log eg. start/end time, duration, and
number of talk clips created. This is useful to dettect how many files
had problems…
- Summarise output for user at end, of processing, number of talkclips
created and how long this took (in seconds).
- Report to user how many talk clips will need to be created to give
them an indication of potential waiting time etc. This is calculated by
first determining how many files are on the device excluding .talk files, and how many .talk
files there are, and calculating the difference.
- This information allows a percentage indication to be drawn throughout
the script, so now the user can track the percentage as processing takes
place.

Patch is attached.

Thanks.

10278PatchesUtilsVery LowUpdate release building scripts to simplify releases2009-06-05Jonathan Gordon2009-06-051 Task Description

The aim of this patch is to make releases as simple as possible... i.e the end goal would be to have someone run “$ ~/rockbox/tools/release/release.sh 3.3” and that would do everything except feed the cat...

the first version just modifies bins.pl to accept a version number which eventually gets passed to the Makefile and used in the source to set the version string in the source to “3.x-rBLAAA”.

This also defines RBRELEASE which can be used in the source to do stuff, for example, remove the debug menu in releases (if we decide to do that...) (RELEASE is defined in speex so had to add the RB prefix...)

Also, this changes the way configure is run to use command line args instead of passing input to it which is Just Wrong (TM) :p

This first patch is a merge of Tremolo’s bitwise.c and bitwiseARM.s code into rockbox libtremor. As a naive version of the merge, I have taken out the previous rockbox optimisations to huffman decode (originally implemented in  FS#6848 ). Versus svn, decoding speed is worse with this patch. However something that incorporates both  FS#6848  and the Tremolo bitwise optimisations for little-endian ARM may well turn out better. This patch is seriously not committable, the arch-specific stuff is not done cleanly in the headers or the makefile

This is the first plugin I’ve ever written from scratch, and well, it was fun. I haven’t worked out how to use bitmaps yet, bear with me, for now it uses coloured rectangles. Still learning :p.

If this were to get committed, please wait until I’ve added better support for more targets, commented as many lines as are possible to help other people new to making plugins, potentially add AI (Although that would kinda ruin it as it would probably force a draw every time), and figured out how to use bitmaps properly.

If people are willing to test this out for me and tell me any bugs, please do so. I have tested this on the H10, the Gigabeat, and, using the simulator, the iPod mini G2 (Which displays it but out of alignment, will work on that soon.

I realize it’s not too exciting, but for my first real bit of work in C I’m happy :p.

10763PatchesUser InterfaceVery LowThis patch speeds the keyboard input for scroll wheel d...2009-11-05Fred Bauer442014-03-0334 Task Description

This patch is for the Sansa Fuze but easily modified for other players with scroll wheels.
apps/keymaps/keymap-[your player].c needs to be modified

This patch changes the keyboard input method for scroll wheel players to this:

Scrolling the wheel forward selects the column of the desired character moving right.
Reversing the wheel moves the keyboard cursor down (not left) to select the character.
Reversing again inserts the letter and resets the row and column to the top left.
Repeat…(right, down, right, down…)

The benefit is not leaving the scroll wheel or stopping to click anything.

The center select button is now always mapped to delete.
Left and right always move the edit position.
To make overshoot more forgiving reverse scrolling past the bottom of the keyboard moves the cursor to the top of the previous column.

The posted patch includes keymap changes for the Sansa Fuze. These are the changes required for a different target:
- { ACTION_KBD_UP, BUTTON_SCROLL_BACK, BUTTON_NONE },
- { ACTION_KBD_UP, BUTTON_SCROLL_BACK|BUTTON_REPEAT, BUTTON_NONE },
- { ACTION_KBD_DOWN, BUTTON_SCROLL_FWD, BUTTON_NONE },
- { ACTION_KBD_DOWN, BUTTON_SCROLL_FWD|BUTTON_REPEAT, BUTTON_NONE },
+ { ACTION_KBD_SCROLL_BACK, BUTTON_SCROLL_BACK, BUTTON_NONE },
+ { ACTION_KBD_SCROLL_BACK, BUTTON_SCROLL_BACK|BUTTON_REPEAT, BUTTON_NONE },
+ { ACTION_KBD_SCROLL_FWD, BUTTON_SCROLL_FWD, BUTTON_NONE },
+ { ACTION_KBD_SCROLL_FWD, BUTTON_SCROLL_FWD|BUTTON_REPEAT, BUTTON_NONE },

This patch will remove Morse code but preserves the unicode capability (not tested)

11689PatchesThemesVery LowTheme settings2010-10-19Jonathan Gordon22010-10-191 Task Description

This adds a very simple way for themers to add some customisability to their themes without requiring the user to actually edit the skin files.

2 new tags are added:
%Sl(name, default, …) to configure a setting named "name" with the default value "default", the … is any amount (up to 32) of strings which are accepted values. The order here is the order to be used with the next tag.

%Sv(name) to get the value. If the users value isnt in the above list, or the setting file is missing the default value will be used… can be used with normal ?<> conditionals or %if() (both number and name should work)

For the user to actually use this he needs to create /.rockbox/wps/skinsettings.txt which has the same syntax as .cfg files. i.e "name: value" and #comment.

This first version is very stupid and loads the .txt file into every skin which has a least one %Sl(), but the final version will do this much smarterer. (Also these settings are static so the values should be loaded at parser time instead of runtime.)

Also a plugin could be made to dump the allowed values for the used theme (or all skins) to disk to make it easier.

Because there is no limit to what the settings could be, I'm hoping that defacto setting names will just happen, the theme site could help with this also. It isnt a big deal if theme A accepts different values for a setting than theme B though.

Lastly, I need to also add a simple way for yes/no type settings %?Sv(show aa)<%Cd> should be able to work… Actually, brain fart time… because the settings are loaded at parse time we could probably use the feature handling code to always only parse the correct branch which would save a bunch of skin buffer and render time.

9087PatchesPluginsVery LowThe wake-up alarm on ipods starts rockbox even if hold ...2008-06-11Johan Swetzén82009-10-173 Task Description

When the wake-up alarm starts up the iPod, you wouldn’t want it to boot the OF, but it will do so if hold is on. This patch makes the bootloader check if the alarm is active and start rockbox regardless of the hold state if it is. Also, if the hold switch is on during start up rockbox would normally reset all settings, but this is inactivated if rockbox was started by the alarm.

Applying the patch:
Besides building the firmware, you will need to build and upload the bootloader to your ipod using ipodpatcher.

Limitations:
The bootloader doesn’t check if the alarm started ipod, it only checks if the alarm is active. If you have set the alarm you will have to use the MENU button to start the OF.

I don’t know if this works on any other iPods than the iPod video, but it will probably work on all of them.

The Case Game

Here is a variant of Deal or No Deal for Rockbox.

26 cases contain random amounts of virtual money. After choosing 1 case for yourself, you open the other cases until the banker makes you an offer to buy your case. If you choose to accept the offer the game ends and you receive that offer as your final score. By declining the offer, you continue to open the remaining cases until the next offer. If you decline all offers you get the amount that was in your case as your final score. If play continues until your down to 1 case plus the case you chose, you are given the option to swap cases.

Gameplay controls:

() While opening cases: pressing UP shows the remaining case amounts.

pressing DOWN shows the high scores.

() While deciding on an offer: pressing UP shows the previous offers.

pressing DOWN shows the high scores.

This game allows name entries into a high score board.

This game currently only works on color lcd screens (Sansa e200 176×220) or greater.

Apply the patch and place the .bmp files in the “apps/plugins/bitmaps/native/” directory.

Please post results for other platforms as well as comments. I tested the game out on the Gigabeat simulator and it seemed to work well.

(The search result doesn't correct if there is no uni.mt(or unimini.mt)).

About search result
1) It is considered that the character that is the difference
of the uppercase, titlecase and the lowercase is the same.

   eg. A = a, Ω = ω

2) It is considered that the character with the pronunciation sign
(accent, umlaut, etc.) is the same as the character to which these are not attached.

   eg. A = Á

3) The combination character is considered to be a character that divides into each character.
  eg. Π= O E

4) Only Japanese: the Hiragana, the halfwidth Katakana are considered to be the same character as the fullwidth Katakana.

eg. あ = ア, ア = ア
7287PatchesID3 / meta dataVery LowSupport metadata sort tags in the Database2007-06-11Dan Everton1682011-11-2324 Task Description

Attached is a patch that starts support for the sort tags specified in ID3 v2.4. It adds three new tags to the tagcache system, sortartist, sortalbum, and sorttitle which are drawn from the TSOA/TSOP/TSOT tags.

This is only the beginning and is very, very lightly tested (i.e. it compiles and doesn’t seem to break anything).

10461PatchesPluginsVery LowSupport for custom drawing of styled/scrolled text in p...2009-07-24Andrew Mahone2009-09-141 Task Description

Add support for two new scroll styles, STYLE_NODRAW and STYLE_CUSTOM, with STYLE_CUSTOM causing the draw to be done via a hook (set with lcd_set_style_hook). lcd_puts_stroll_style_offset also returns a struct scrollinfo pointer. This may be used in conjunction with STYLE_NODRAW to redraw the scrolling text in a plugin which draws other graphics to the same part of the screen, by drawing the text using the offset in the struct scrollinfo after the background graphics have been drawn. My latest patch from  FS#4817  is required, as it consolidates styled text drawing in one function, making it easier to replace the normal draw with a call to the hook, and reducing the binsize impact of this feature as well.

Support for core text scrolling in PictureFlow plugin to follow .

5519PatchesGamesVery LowSudoku: Ability to chose which difficulty to generate2006-06-08Jonas Häggqvist82008-12-204 Task Description

It would be nice if the “Generate” menu-option opened a submenu where you could pick which difficulty to generate.

I’ve had a quick glance at the code, and it looks like it’d have to generate until a suitable difficulty is found, but that’s no different from what users have to do now, if they’re after a specific difficulty, except it’d happen automatically.

If I get the time/motivation, I may have another look at it in the next couple of days.

7252PatchesVideoVery LowSubRip (srt) subtitle support in MPEG Player. (Edit: +o...2007-06-02Antoine Cellerier252008-06-288 Task Description

This patch adds SubRip subtitle support to MPEG Player.
http://wiki.multimedia.cx/index.php?title=SubRip

Files need to have the same name as the video file with a “.srt” extension.

I know that the OSD rendering is not implement in a way that linuxstb and jhMikeS would like but I still wanted to post the patch here in case anyone felt like adapting it. (Current OSD only renders on top of the video area, it can be adapted to add other OSD channels … like display a seek bar, volume control, playback state, etc.)

Enjoy,

Edit: I’ve also added a timebar display (when changing the volume)

10905PatchesThemesVery LowSong-Specific AlbumArt should also look for Songname in...2010-01-09Mike Schmitt42010-01-143 Task Description

There should be another option on the list of prioritized options for where to place Album Art images and the filenames. There are currently 7:
http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/AlbumArt

My suggested addition would become the new option 2, pushing all others down.
The first option is currently the only option to allow for song-specific artwork to be displayed, but this requires naming the image files *exactly* like the corresponding sound file, which screws up directory sorting.

Therefore the option should be added that if no image file has an identical name to the sound file playing, it then looks for an image file which matches the current song's Title metadata, similarly to how the following option looks for a match to the Album metadata.

This could cause conflicts when two songs have the same name, or when a song shares the album's name, or the song name contains unusable characters, but such conflicts are rare and minimal, and if anyone cares all that much about such things there is already the built-in flexibility to get around such issues. The additional code required should be minimal (and already blueprinted within the other options), and have essentially zero impact on any other functionality.

I may try to write this patch myself (as i did with "shuffle + track skip"), but if anyone beats me to it, it would be appreciated :)

9513PatchesBuild environmentVery LowSmarter release scripts2008-10-29Jonas Häggqvist12008-10-291 Task Description

This patch modifies bins.pl, manuals.pl and voices.pl to be smarter, just like the new w32sims.pl, adding a -r commandline switch, allowing the same script to be used for building both daily and release versions.

12361PatchesSettingsVery LowSmart settings_load_config() so it only does setting_ap...2011-11-01Jonathan Gordon22011-12-203 Task Description

in svn settings_apply() is called whenever a config is loaded (after boot) regardless of what is in the file. even an empty one will cause a full settings_apply() (which is slow, causes disk access and will stop music thanks to the buflib users).

This patch will apply settings individually if they have a callback registered, and if no settings without a callback are applied it doesnt bother calling settings_apply().

9043PatchesUser InterfaceVery Lowslim down 'open with..' list2008-05-27Lee Kang Hyuk22010-08-293 Task Description

Obviously there is no one who wants to open a mp3 file with text viewer. With this patch applied, ‘Open With..’ only shows plugins that are associated in ‘viewers.config’. To see a full list of viewers plugin, just set the ‘Show Files’ option to ‘All’ and try again.

Some builtin filetypes are text file, so I added them into ‘viewers.config’ for the accessibility.

12223PatchesMusic playbackVery Lowsinc resampling for rockbox2011-08-09Stefan Keller182012-03-2811 Task Description

The attached patch implements sinc based resampling in rockbox.
I have only tested it stand-alone so far (i.e. the code outside of rockbox – I am waiting for a replacement for my broken android phone to test it there).
There is (of course) quite some room for improvement.
Things which could be improved:
- buffer handling
- calculate the correct sinc spanning the whole table for downsampling. Then the downsampling and upsampling code would be the same (no need for sinc_increment, saving some additions). Also the result would be more accurate resampling.
- Save some memory by always calculating the correct sinc and putting it into resample_data. Would need to use fp_sincos() for that.
- Save some more memory by taking advantage of sinc's symmetry, only storing half of it in the table.

I know that I'm breaking the coding-style by using more than 80 chars in some lines. I will fix that when I have time. I wanted to get this code finally out to get some feedback after it sitting for two weeks (basically unchanged) on my HD.

10575PatchesSimulatorVery LowSimulator remote-control2009-08-30Jonas Häggqvist62010-10-185 Task Description

This patch enables you to control the simulator using a named pipe to provide simulated keypresses, rather than the keyboard.

Unfortunately there is a bug that means that not all events seem to have any effect. On the e200 sim, I can use the scroll buttons to move in the main menu, but neither RIGHT nor SELECT lets me enter any of the entries. I suspect it's related to repeat or hold/release handling, but I'm not sure how to fake that properly.

12189PatchesCodecsVery LowSimplify the codec API and don't always loop MODs.2011-07-11Sean Bartell72011-08-313 Task Description

This patch makes some changes to codec_api to help remove dependencies for my project.

The unused strcasestr callback is removed.

The global_settings pointer was being used by several codecs to check whether REPEAT_ONE mode is on; this has been replaced with a callback "should_loop()".

The MOD codec has been modified not to restart the file when it reaches the end. This does not affect MOD files that use "position jump" to loop part of the song. Ideally the MOD codec would only follow such loops if should_loop() returns 1, but detecting loops is nontrivial.

10581PatchesPluginsVery LowSeparate backlight setting for viewer2009-09-03Crend King52009-09-041 Task Description

Hello! I made this patch to add a separate backlight setting for the viewer plugin. By default the viewer plugin use Rockbox global backlight setting. For battery life, the backlight length would be usually too short in viewer, since reading a page may take more than 10 seconds. Bring the backlight on again by pressing buttons or wheel could be painful since it may cause unwanted effects (e.g. scroll to top/bottom of the text).

I added two options: Use global setting (default) and Always on. When setting to "Use global setting", everything should remain the same as before. When setting to "Always on", the backlight should never dim off. Changing the option during reading will immediately applies effect. I use the helper functions "backlight_use_settings" and "backlight_force_on" to achieve this.

Warning: since I changed the preference struct, after installing the new viewer.rock, all previous viewer setting will be abandoned and revert to default settings. You can backup your old viewer.dat (36 bytes), wait the new viewer.dat (40 bytes) be generated, and overwrite the first 36 bytes from the old viewer.dat to restore the setting. I don't know if there is a painless way for the transition. Suggestions are welcomed.

Thank you!

12029PatchesPluginsVery LowSDL_PAD keymaps for plugins on SDLAPP build without TOU...2011-03-25Don Heyse2011-03-251 Task Description

If you build RaaA for SDL with HAVE_TOUCHSCREEN disabled there are no key bindings for the SDL_PAD in any of the plugins. This patch attempts to define generic key mappings for the 3×3 number pad on a typical PC keyboard. It needs work however. For instance, after a bit of testing I decided I’d prefer not to wait for a key repeat on the HOME button to quit most of the plugins. That said, it may prove a useful starting point developers building for RaaA platforms without a mouse or touchscreen. (Like me with the zipit.)

For the Zipit I plan to fix up the generic SDL keys first, testing on a real PC, and then try and figure out a way to use most of them as is. I’m not sure yet if it makes sense to define a ZIPIT_PAD for the few plugins where alternative keys make sense, or use some other #ifdef.

12080PatchesMusic playbackVery LowScrobbledroid API support for Android2011-04-25Matt Muscari32011-05-221 Task Description

Adding last.fm scrobbling support to the Android version via one of the existing Android Last.fm apps is actually very easy - the log file approach doesn't seem to be compatible with e.g. the actual Last.fm app. Last.fm supports the scrobbledroid api. Adding scrobbledroid intents into the RunForegroundManager class adds support for scrobbling in about 10 lines of code. Attached is a patch to add in the appropriate intent creation and sending. This code could be modified to allow toggling via the settings page, but I don't know much about the native framebuffer code for the UI that is used by rockbox for android. I leave that to somebody else to implement if this is deemed to be too inflexible. I just want to submit this code so that others may enjoy last.fm support without having to jump through hoops to upload log files to last.fm on Android devices.
