Task Description
Right now if the voice file fails to load, there’s a splash message but blind users won’t be able to see it.
(usually this happens because they upgraded rockbox without upgrading the voice file too)
It would be useful if we could embed a failsafe voice file, containing only that one prompt, so the user will know what is going on.
Just English for now, though ideally one for every language we support.

Task Description
I have an upgraded iPod 5.5 with CF 32Gb installed in CF-ZIF adapter. Both iTunes & Rockbox are working fine with this setup.
Then I tried to increase the storage space by using mSata SSD 64 GB + mSata-ZIF adapter. iTunes recovered the iPod successfully and it is working just fine. I installed Rockbox latest stable (non-stable latest = same thing) version & after the Rockbox boot-up it reporting an ATA error -11.
I wonder if this can be solved.
Thanks!

13059 | Bugs | Codecs | Very Low | MP3 Codec decoding has artifacts | 2015-10-22 | Alex | 2015-10-22 | 2 |
Task Description
When playing music, I can hear codec errors in the music. It occurs every time on a certain song, and other songs that are smaller in file size, it does not occur on, but occurs on the next one. I believe it is a buffering issue, and makes the music unlistenable. I used the daily on 10/21/2015
On 320kb/s MP3s it occurs much more often, and 128kb/s MP3s it occurs less often, but when it occurs its a series of glitches that distort the music.
I am sure its not the MP3s themselves, because it doesn't occur in the official firmware, and when I rewind it, it does not make the same sound until later. It has a very prominent 'glitchy' sound and later it changes the speed of the song.
I replaced it with the 3.1.3 MP3 codec, and the same glitch occurs.
I do not have a line out so its made through the speaker, but the problem is so bad that you can hear it very clearly.
The MP3 was 320kb/s
Memo is the glitchy one, and Memo-1 is it being played correctly.

Task Description
Hi, I've been using the development version of Rockbox in my ipod classic 6th generation for about two years I think, but from some time, like a month or two, I'm experiencing playback issues as the track I'm listening suddenly skip forward or backward, or even jump for a few seconds on another mp3 file inside the ipod I was just listening before. I don't think is a ipod issue because I can listen the file inside the ipod with my computer player without problems.
There some way I can check older development revisions for the classic? It appears that it doesn't show in the dev build link on the site because is not fully supported. Thanks

13108 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Random crashes when playing music | 2017-03-16 | somedude | 2017-12-16
Task Description
For a couple of months my Sansa Fuze v2 has been crashing randomly when playing music. Most of the time I just get a white screen with an error message. The last message I got was :
'undefined instruction at 0006DC8C'
(I think that last number varies at each crash)
This didn't happen with v3.13, but it's been happening with every daily build I've tested IIRC.
It doesn't happen very often so it's hard to reproduce. I listen to music in public transports about twice a day and this happens not more than once a week. It seems to happen more often when the battery is low (less than 10%). It generally happens early in a playback session, when the first or second track is played.
Sometimes I don't get a white screen, but the program freezes and some parts of the interface are surrounded with white frames. I don't know if it's the same bug or if it's unrelated.
Note that I'm always listening to music on a microSD card, and I haven't tried on the main memory.
PS: I chose "Sansa Fuze+" in the OS list because I couldn't find Sansa Fuse v2.

Task Description
I am having a couple of problems with Rockbox on my iRiver H140. The first issue is that all my songs in the files folder are displaying only in the order that they were uploaded onto the machine. If I go into the settings and choose to display Artists in alphabetical order it doesn't have any effect! I am left to endlessly scroll through the names or listen through the iriver player which doesn't play WAVs or FLACs so i can't access everything. Secondly, if I start up and resume playback of an album it doesn't then allow me to access the files folder when I navigate to it. I have to then restart my player and go to files from there. If I later come out to the main menu and choose Files, or any folder for that matter, it won't open. It's really frustrating. Any ideas of a fix?

Task Description
For the last couple of weeks, I can’t get Rockbox to run anymore on my phone. I use Rasher’s build, which used to work fine. I even built one on my own, but it still doesn’t work. I tried running it on the emulator and it worked fine. I am not sure what is wrong, reading the logcat gets me nowhere because I don’t really understand most of it. I have attached the logcat here. I do not know if I’m the only one having this problem.
I tried various method to get it working again on my phone, I even tried resetting my phone in case if I messed up somewhere. I also noticed this when I was trying out another ROM for my phone, which runs on Gingerbread 2.3.7. I thought it was the ROM’s problem, so I changed back to the ROM that I frequently use, which used to had no problems at all running Rockbox. The last working build was on 01 March 2014, after that, nothing works anymore on my phone.
The only possibility that I can think of is that my phone is outdated and the kernel or the ROM is missing something crucial to run the latest Rockbox builds. Other than that, I have no idea. I hope the logcat attached could help you identify this problem. Thank you in advance.
Build version: 915bc09-140318 Last working build (on phone): unknown revision, dated 01 March 2014 Phone: Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Android: 4.1.2 Jelly Bean (CyanogenMod 10) Emulator: 4.1.2 (API 16) with same screen dimension.

13118 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Incorrect playback position when seeking AAC files down... | 2017-05-31 | R O | 2017-05-31
Task Description
I downloaded this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lrb0dHKJBR4 using the youtube-dl python program. The file plays and seeks correctly in foobar2000 and MPC-HC. But, on my clip+, whether I seek 10 seconds or 10 minutes into the file, it ends up playing a position of the file previous to the one displayed. For example, if I seek 50 seconds forward from the beginning, it will play the file from the start, while the screen still displays as if it's playing from 50 seconds onwards. Seeking to the end of the file will have it play a section from about 2 minutes earlier than it should be, while the time display and music will continue until 1:14:20, with the file actually being 1:12:46.
I did not hear the files being played slower than they should be, so it seems it's only an issue when seeking.
I've confirmed this happens on every AAC file downloaded by youtube-dl, and that re-encoding the same file to AAC using NERO encoder makes the problem dissapear.

Rockbox recognizes it in the debug disk info screen and when connected to a computer via USB, I can read and write it through rockbox. However, when I try to access it or when I just check the regular rockbox info, rockbox does not show the SD card, nor can I play music from it.
The bug is also present in the current development version and is overall very similar to this one: https://www.rockbox.org/tracker/11798
I tried reinstalling rockbox and reformatting the SD card, but nothing worked.

Task Description
Using release 3.13 on the clip zip, if I were to put the main crossfeed setting on the right button of the quickscreen, it would cycle through to custom but then stop. If I use the left button of the quickscreen, then after custom there is a data abort crash.
Using build c64b59f-140304, both the left and right quickscreen buttons work to cycle through all 3 settings for crossfeed, but I can still trigger the crash if I use the left button. It seems to be sporadic and timing dependent, because if I click through the options quickly it works fine, but if I slow down and hold the buttons for longer at a time then it will eventually trigger.

Been using Rockbox for years, so it was really obvious when things got messed up somewhere in 3.12~3.13. In a nutshell, with this release, in a 1000+ playlist, I’m listening to the same songs over and over again when shuffle is on. To fix the issue, I have to turn shuffle OFF and then flip it back to ON every time I start a player. Never had this problem before. Don’t know if this affects all devices or just my H340 (yes! still going strong!).

13036 | Bugs | User Interface | Very Low | Deleting a file and rewinding (without stopping replay)... | 2015-03-07 | Stefan Sitter | 2015-03-16
Task Description
Rockbox version 3.13 Wenn I delete a file being played, it continues to play (which is OK for me). But when I rewind in this file while playing, Rockbox hangs and does not respond to any key presses. The screen light stays on. I have to press the hard reset or wait until the battery is empty.
This also sometimes happens when I press fastforward, but it always happens when pressing rewind.
Desired behavior: - Preferred: permit rewinding/fastforwarding (and really delete the file only after stopping the replay) - ignore rewind/fast forward; alternatively - skip to the next file immediately after deleting.
Thanks for reading, and please contact me if you cannot reproduce this! I have a Iriver H140 and I must say that all my recordings are in wavpack (recordings made using SPDIF-IN), so I do not know whether this also happens with other file formats and with other players.

On my iPod Classic (160GB), the hold switch is not being detected anymore by Rockbox. Switching the hold switch does cause the buttons to stop responding and vice versa, but Rockbox is unaware of this event and continues to act as if it didn't happen. Task Description
Heyup,
I’ve recently updated the build on my zip and the radio volume is greatly reduced. It`s very noticeable since I use a passive speaker connected straight to the player (top volume required). Volume of file playback is unaffected.
Here’s someone describing the same issue- http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/showthread.php?t=74910
Same symptoms including (notably) normal volume in the recording screen (gain=0), and region settings make no difference.
I have no note of which build I had before the update but it was from around the end of 2014. Looking thru the changelog yielded no clues.

13063 | Bugs | Recording | Very Low | Volume triggered recording fails to stop | 2016-01-09 | Luca Leonardo Scorcia | 2016-01-09
Task Description
Hi, I’m trying to record myself playing the guitar using my old, trusty FuzeV2 (both a very old version - sorry didn’t wrote it down but had to be at least a couple of years ago - and today’s version 87229a4). Recording parameters as follows:
Trigger: Repeat TrigType: New file Prerecord Time: 1s Start Above: -22dB for at least: 1s Stop Below: -26dB for at least: 1s Presplit Gap: 1s (don’t really understand what it does from the manual, but it says it usually has to be the same value of the Stop Below Time, so…)
Recording starts correctly when noise is detected according to conditions; then apparently it correctly detects the silence and stops the recording. But immediately the ‘Repeat Trigger’ parameter kicks in and _immediately starts a new recording_. At this point, the trigger status and the recording status aren’t matching anymore. The recording screen shows the recording file size growing, but the Trigger status is ‘Ready’. I have confirmed that on the actual file on disk the silence is meanwhile recorded.
Did I understand any of the parameters wrong or has anybody else the same problem?

Restored previous version (Version: 33856d9-161111) Rebooted Reset Settings Using default settings, enabled Shuffle via Shortcuts Started playlist; track identified as 1 of 5330 Skipped ahead to the 5th track Paused @ 1:01 Forced shutdown Enabled Hold switch Waited ~1 min., then booted via disengaging Hold switch Clicked Resume Playback… resumed on the fifth track @ 1:01
FWIW: No Bookmarking used (never have). Database not initialized (never use it).

13122 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Annoying beeps when playing ogg vorbis files | 2017-07-04 | Jérémy Caruso | 2017-07-04
Task Description
After upgrading from 3.13 to 3.14, when playing most of the ogg vorbis files in my library, a "beeping" sound sporadically occurs.
The sound is random (2 consecutive playbacks of the same track will beep on the same time).
All the files played fine with 3.13. MP3 files play just fine (I have not tested other formats yet).
Possibly interesting facts : Vorbis files with a lower bitrate (<100kpbs) seem to be less subject to this beep. It seems beep never occurs when screen is on.

13136 | Bugs | Playlists | Very Low | Playlist position not saved on shutdown when using rela... | 2017-11-13 | Dean Tersigni | 2018-08-05 | 1 |
Task Description
Ordinarily, when Rockbox is shut off and turned back on, it will remember the position in the last-played song, and begin playing from where you left off. However, in the latest build, Rockbox doesn't remember the last track that was playing if the file used a relative path. This happens on every version of 3.14 including the current daily build (2017-11-13).
Here is how the error can be reproduced:
Have a folder with two songs. Then, in the parent folder, create two m3u playlists named "absolute.m3u" and "relative.m3u". .\ —absolute.m3u —relative.m3u —MUSIC\ ——song1.ogg ——song2.ogg
In the absolute.m3u playlist, add the following lines: MUSIC\song1.ogg MUSIC\song2.ogg
In the relative.m3u playlist, add the following lines: .\MUSIC\song1.ogg .\MUSIC\song2.ogg
To see expected behavior:
1.) Open the files list, and run absolute.m3u and song1.ogg begins playing. 2.) Push right to start song2.ogg. Let it play a few seconds in. 3.) Turn off your device by pressing power. 4.) Turn on your device with the power button. 5.) song2.ogg continues to play the same song at the same location as when it was shut off.
To reproduce the bug:
1.) Open the files list, and run relative.m3u and song 1 begins playing. 2.) Push right to start song2.ogg. Let it play a few seconds in. 3.) Turn off your device by pressing power. 4.) Turn on your device with the power button. 5.) song1.ogg plays from the very beginning.
The file format of the songs doesn't seem to matter (I've tested ogg and mp3).

13159 | Bugs | Codecs | Very Low | rockbox hangs on certain m4a files | 2018-07-03 | Solomon Peachy | 2020-06-25
Task Description
I primarily use my unit for audio books while driving, but the latest build (as I write this) won't play one of the files properly. It tries to start, stuck at 0:00. Trying to seek hangs the player altogether, requiring a hard restart.
I've recreated this problem on a flaky Clip+ and an AGPTek Rocker.
The 'file' tool identifies it as: ISO Media, MP4 v2 [ISO 14496-14]
Here's what mplayer has to say (while playing it back properly):
[lavf] stream 0: audio (aac), -aid 0, -alang eng
Opening audio decoder: [ffmpeg] FFmpeg/libavcodec audio decoders libavcodec version 58.18.100 (external) [aac @ 0x7f93de0eeb00]Multiple frames in a packet. AUDIO: 22050 Hz, 1 ch, floatle, 64.0 kbit/9.07% (ratio: 7999→88200) Selected audio codec: [ffaac] afm: ffmpeg (FFmpeg AAC (MPEG-2/MPEG-4 Audio))
AO: [pulse] 22050Hz 1ch floatle (4 bytes per sample) Video: no video Starting playback… [aac @ 0x7f93de0eeb00]channel element 2.0 is not allocated
(It's a large file (>400MB) that has proper chapter markers. I can provide it upon request. In the mean time I'm converting it to mp3..)

Task Description
I am trying to build Rockbox for Sony NWZ-380 from Git repo, commit ce0b31d87db3c4c1c1bfb535c50770d33e9c4aaf. arm-elf-eabi-gcc version 5.4.0, ARM binutils 2.30. Everything goes smooth until just the latest step where this happens:
… LD duke3d.ovl LD bmp.ovl LD jpeg.ovl LD png.ovl LD ppm.ovl LD gif.ovl LD rockbox.elf /usr/libexec/gcc/arm-elf-eabi/ld: section .ARM.exidx VMA [00000000600a9548,00000000600a954f] overlaps section .bss VMA [00000000600a7f20,00000000600ff773]
I'm using Rockbox on my NWZ-384 for a couple of years now and there were no problems building it in the past. I also was very glad that NWZ-380 port reached stable status in 3.14, but now something seems to be broken (not terrible it seems, just requires some adjustments to the linker scripts but still).

13196 | Bugs | User Interface | Very Low | Xduoo X3ii: album art doesn't show for some jpgs in con... | 2020-05-08 | Johannes Rauh | 2020-07-17 | 1 |
Task Description
I store the album art by putting a folder.jpg file in the album's directory. Any WPS on other players shows the cover pictures properly if album art is enabled in the theme.
I am aware of caveats like progressive jpgs, that are not supported by RB.
In the attached zip file, there are four directories with a folder.jpg file and a free opus file for demonstration purposes.
All pictures show up fine on my Sansa E200 (v1) using CabbieV2 or lebellium_Samsung-like. However, on my XduOO x3ii the pictures are not displayed for the examples 1 - 3, but show for example 4.
None of the jpgs are progressive and I cannot figure out a difference between 1-3 and 4.
I don't know how to debug this further myself, but would be happy doing any furter experiments.
This is true for the current dev builds, e.g. b450707955.

Task Description
Playing APE 24/44.1 with harsh noise in different parts of the track. If you decode APE file to WAV using the codec console, then there are no problems. So the matter is in the player’s APE decoder.
At 24/48 everything is fine.

482 | Feature Requests | Music playback | Very Low | "Single" playmode | 2002-10-27 | | 2020-05-24
Task Description
HI, is there a way that you could add a “Single” playmode, so it stops after playing one song, instead of repeating all, or repeating single? That way, it could also be used as an “auto-off”, where it shuts off after one song. Also, and maybe this isnt possible, but you could have an option to play X number of songs and then stop, where the X is configurable.

5230 | Bugs | User Interface | Very Low | Keypad HOLD doesn't let go until scrolling is used | 2006-04-24 | Mateusz Radwan | 2013-06-13 | 4 |
Task Description
Whenever the HOLD switch is turned off, the hold icon in rockbox disappears, but hold actually doesn’t let go. I can’t use any keys until scroling is used. Scrolling left or right is the only thing that actually switches off hold. It can be pretty annoying as I use HOLD a lot.

5519 | Patches | Games | Very Low | Sudoku: Ability to chose which difficulty to generate | 2006-06-08 | Jonas Häggqvist | 2008-12-20 | 4 |
Task Description
It would be nice if the “Generate” menu-option opened a submenu where you could pick which difficulty to generate.
I’ve had a quick glance at the code, and it looks like it’d have to generate until a suitable difficulty is found, but that’s no different from what users have to do now, if they’re after a specific difficulty, except it’d happen automatically.
If I get the time/motivation, I may have another look at it in the next couple of days.

5757 | Patches | Drivers | Very Low | Correctly display short DOS file names in file browser | 2006-08-01 | Alexander Levin | 2006-08-05 | 3 |
Task Description
This is a sequel for FS#5736 . It correctly displays the OEM-encoded short DOS file names.
Following code pages are supported: cp850 (western Europe), cp852 (central Europe), cp737 (greek), cp866 (cyriliic), cp862 (hebrew).
If you change the default code page (in the settings menu) and there are files that are displayed with the short DOS names, you’d better rebuild the dir cache (if it’s activated) since the UTF8-name of the file changes.
When I compile the modified sources, I get the following warning which I don’t understand: CC common/unicode.c common/unicode.c:136: warning: function declaration isn’t a prototype
Could anyone tell me what that means and what the reason is?
