11388 | Patches | Playlists | Very Low | Bookmark file doesn't work for a directory with a semic... | 2010-06-09 | Aaron Wells | 2010-07-09 | 1 |
Task Description
Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a directory: /AUDIO;BOOKS 2. Place a file in it: /AUDIO;BOOKS/file.mp3 3. Start playing the file, and then create a bookmark 4. Do “List bookmarks” for the file 5. The bookmark menu lists something like this:
BOOKS/;file 0:02, 2, Shuffle
The problem seems to be that .bmark files use semicolons to separate the fields of information. If there’s a semicolon in the path, it thinks that it indicates the end of the path and the beginning of the filename.

8618 | Bugs | Configuration | Very Low | Sansa C240 Dock Line Level Audio disabled | 2008-02-18 | Nate Byers | 2010-07-19
Task Description
On the Sansa C240 V1, to switch on the line level audio output on the dock connector pin 8 needs to go high. So jumping 3V+ from pin 22 will activate the line level audio. This works fine with the Sansa firmware but Rockbox produces no sound through the line level outputs on the C240, with pin 8 jumped or not jumped.

Task Description
I am trying to use the last method mentioned on the ipodpatcher wiki page to write Rockbox directly into the OSOS image on my iPod Nano2G. Sometimes it works properly, but other times it fails saying that it couldn't read the header from the .ipodx file. I am following the instructions exactly, so that can't be an issue. I have tried hexediting the .ipodx file, and in some cases I can get ipodpatcher to read the header by editing the first four values, but this always causes a Checksum Error. Here is the exact output:

11429 | Patches | Operating System/Drivers | Very Low | Improved sector cache / Remove on-stack and in-struct s... | 2010-06-21 | Michael Sparmann | 2010-07-31 | 2 |
Task Description
This patch adds a sector-based read/write cache between the storage and fat drivers. It has a static pool of 64 sector buffers which can be locked by the file handling code to replace the sector buffers in the file and dir structs, and serve as cache as long as they aren’t used. It can also be used to enforce exclusive access to a sector.
If requested using the STORAGE_NEEDS_ALIGN define, all storage accesses will be aligned to cacheline boundaries.

Task Description
When utilizing the database on the iPod Photo (as well as other 4G iPods I have used), on occasion when entering a directory or going to the parent directory, any button on the iPod will need to be pressed before the others will have effect. I.E. before I can scroll to select a song, I must press Select or one of the other wheel buttons. It is severely annoying, in part because it is too sporadic to even be assumed to be a “feature”.

11544 | Patches | LCD | Very Low | iPod Nano2G Display Vsync | 2010-08-15 | Michael Marley | 2010-08-15 | 1 |
Task Description
This patch enables display vsync on the iPod Nano 2G, currently only for the Type 1 (LDS176) display. It removes tearing and can make animation smoother. However, right now it uses an extremely CPU-unfriendly method of waiting for synchronization, which makes the display quite slow in some circumstances. I hope to implement DMA to copy the framebuffer, which should help somewhat. However, I am probably going to need some help to do this.
TheSeven gets all the credit for this patch, since he found where the Tearing Effect (vblank) signal was connected to the s5l8701 and wrote the vsync code. All I did was drop it into the display driver in the right spot.

10280 | Patches | Configuration | Very Low | Initial work on the Samsung YP-P2 port | 2009-06-05 | Alain Trinh | 2010-08-19 | 6 |
Task Description
Hello, here's my current contribution to the Rockbox project: initial work on a port to the Samsung YP-P2. Right now, it's mostly just copied from the Cowon D2 port, but with some changes to reflect the P2's different LCD.
The LCD shows the picture undistorted, but it seems that the G channel is too strong. Perhaps this is due to the LCD being set to rgb666 mode, so it expects 6 bits from R and B, while Rockbox only gives 5 bits? I tried setting the LCD to rgb565 mode, but that only distorted the colors even more. In any case, suggestion for a fix would be great.

11564 | Patches | Themes | Very Low | new tag to talk other tags | 2010-08-23 | Jonathan Gordon | 2010-08-24 | 1 |
Task Description
This patch reimplements FS#11541 using the skin engine.
new skin tag %Vx(params) will talk whatever is in the params (unlimited….).. Params can be any string or other skin tag (no conditionals just yet). if the first option is - it will shutup anything currently talking. otherwise - is a voiced pause. otherwise the only special string is the word “text” which says to spell the next tag (used when the value of the tag is usable in a conditional, i.e %cP need talk or you will get “1” or “2” :/ ).
quick examples: %?mh<%Vx(-, %cl,-, %cM, text, %cP)> ← Talk the current hour, minute, am/pm when hold is toggled.
%?pE(15)<%?It<%Tx(-, %Ia, -, %It)» ← untested but should spell the next tracks title and artist when there is 15s left of the current track

11545 | Patches | Games | Very Low | Chopper improvements | 2010-08-16 | Michael Marley | 2010-08-26 | 2 |
Task Description
This patch contains several improvements to the Chopper game designed to make it run with a high framerate instead of a low, jerky one. Previously, the game depended on sleeping for a number cycles before drawing another frame, causing very jerky motion. Now the game should run at a high framerate all the time. The gameplay should be about the same, at least on targets with a display of >64px. I don’t have any of these smaller targets, so I wasn’t able to test. Please tell me what you think of my changes.

Some builtin filetypes are text file, so I added them into ‘viewers.config’ for the accessibility.

11582 | Patches | Music playback | Very Low | Use Fastforward/Rewind (FF/RW) to skip tracks quickly. | 2010-08-29 | Chad Joan | 2010-08-29 | 1 |
Task Description
This patch adds an option to allow the Fastforward/Rewind buttons to be used to skip tracks entirely.
This is an itch of mine that I scratched and am offering up to others if you are interested.
I’ve been using audio lessons to learn Japanese and ran into issues navigating with the normal FF/RW buttons. The acceleration based on track length left me with no sense of time since I don’t keep track of how far I am into my 30 minute long lessons. Simply backing up 5 seconds to catch something I missed was a problem because I’d have to look at what I was doing to see how far I’d ff/rw. Kinda hard when one tick moves 30 seconds too. This is problematic when driving! The existing skip-length feature is really good for this. However, if I use that to skip 5 second increments then I abandon any way of skipping entire tracks. So I re-purposed the FF/RW buttons for skipping tracks and use skip-length for navigating within a track.
I’ve been using this in r27841 for about a week on my Gigabeat, but it seems like it should work for r27942 as well.

11599 | Patches | Simulator | Very Low | Make simulator able to emulate storage with a file inst... | 2010-09-03 | amaury pouly | 2010-09-03 | 1 |
Task Description
This patchs modifies the simulator so that it can emulate the storage layer. More preciserly, it enables all the storage code and simply redirect all storage_{read,write, …} to a file. This way, all fs functions used are the one of rockbox, which allows to debug the FAT code for example.
To run this, apply the patch and modify the makefile to add this: -DROCKBOX_SIMULATE_STORAGE_LAYER to the line: export GCCOPTS=….
When running the simulator, it expects to read from file simdisk.raw. You can change this by using the –root option: ./rockboxui –root <file>
The code doesn’t work for me, FAT code seems to choke on something for now, I’m not sure why.

11622 | Patches | Rbutil | Very Low | Improved Synthesis of talk clips for CamelCased files a... | 2010-09-11 | Steve Clarke | 2010-09-11 | 1 |
Task Description
The Rockbox utility generates its talk files and directory files using the filename and directory names.
If the filenames do not contain spaces, but are CamelCased, they are currently synthesized badly, for example: “I Do I Do I Do” gets pronounced eeedoyeeedoyeeedoy.
The patch to the rbutil/base/talkfile.cpp processes CamelCased filenames and directory names just before synthesis and produces much better sounding talk clips.

11529 | Bugs | Themes | Very Low | Sansa e200v2 progressbar lags when backlight activated | 2010-08-10 | JT Hundley | 2010-10-11 | 1 |
Task Description
In my customized rockbox theme, there is a short (half second?) but irritating delay before the progressbar is drawn. This delay is apparent when pressing a button to turn on the backlight, so it doesn’t show up in the simulator. Here is a video of the issue happening: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LAfW8-BjjE
I’ve tried moving the progressbar to the very top of the wps. I also tried changing the wps around to have each icon in a seperate viewport which didn’t help.
I’m using rockbox version 27667.

11665 | Patches | LCD | Very Low | LCD functions ignore viewport bg_pattern if a backgroun... | 2010-10-11 | Jonathan Gordon | 2010-10-11 | 2 |
Task Description
at least in the 16bit lcd drivers, all functions which use transparency (or clear pixels) get the pixel colour from the backdrop image, completly ignoring the bg_pattern.
This isnt a problem except in skins where it is perfectly reasonable to want a background image for most of the screen but a solid colour for one or two viewports.
There is a tiny problem though, bg_pattern is set to LCD_DEFAULT_BG which is a valid colour, so we probably need to add a flag to the viewport struct to say if it should ignore the background image or not.

8454 | Patches | Operating System/Drivers | Very Low | Implement debug() for ARM architectures via JTAG DCC | 2008-01-13 | Catalin Patulea | 2010-10-15 | 4 |
Task Description
The ARM hardware debugger via JTAG spec (EmbeddedICE) specifies a sideband channel for target↔debugger communication called DCC (Debug Communications Channel). openocd, an open-source debugger compatible with the EmbeddedICE standard, supports using this channel for textual debug messages from the target.
The attached patch implements the target side of this channel. Messages can be enabled in openocd using the “target_request debugmsgs enable” command.
WARNING: If -DDEBUG is enabled and there is no hardware debugger attached to drain the DCC buffer, debug() becomes very slow because it has to wait for the writes to time out. However, this is unlikely to happen because -DDEBUG isn’t typically enabled for target builds.

10784 | Bugs | Bootloader | Very Low | Some problems about the clickwheel and USB connection | 2009-11-15 | Andy | 2010-10-16
Task Description
I've update my ipod nano 2G to r23629. I found the clickweel would remember the last point my finger leave. And next when I touch the clickwheel, it will make a farward/backward move according to the last point I left, even click the button. Now it is not convenient to type a word with the keyboard inside or setting.
And my Mac doesn't launch my ipod when I connect my ipod with USB until I change to disk mode. Seems that the USB driver doesn't work.

10575 | Patches | Simulator | Very Low | Simulator remote-control | 2009-08-30 | Jonas Häggqvist | 2010-10-18 | 5 |
Task Description
This patch enables you to control the simulator using a named pipe to provide simulated keypresses, rather than the keyboard.
Unfortunately there is a bug that means that not all events seem to have any effect. On the e200 sim, I can use the scroll buttons to move in the main menu, but neither RIGHT nor SELECT lets me enter any of the entries. I suspect it's related to repeat or hold/release handling, but I'm not sure how to fake that properly.

11689 | Patches | Themes | Very Low | Theme settings | 2010-10-19 | Jonathan Gordon | 2010-10-19 | 1 |
Task Description
This adds a very simple way for themers to add some customisability to their themes without requiring the user to actually edit the skin files.
2 new tags are added: %Sl(name, default, …) to configure a setting named "name" with the default value "default", the … is any amount (up to 32) of strings which are accepted values. The order here is the order to be used with the next tag.
%Sv(name) to get the value. If the users value isnt in the above list, or the setting file is missing the default value will be used… can be used with normal ?<> conditionals or %if() (both number and name should work)
For the user to actually use this he needs to create /.rockbox/wps/skinsettings.txt which has the same syntax as .cfg files. i.e "name: value" and #comment.
This first version is very stupid and loads the .txt file into every skin which has a least one %Sl(), but the final version will do this much smarterer. (Also these settings are static so the values should be loaded at parser time instead of runtime.)
Also a plugin could be made to dump the allowed values for the used theme (or all skins) to disk to make it easier.
Because there is no limit to what the settings could be, I'm hoping that defacto setting names will just happen, the theme site could help with this also. It isnt a big deal if theme A accepts different values for a setting than theme B though.
Lastly, I need to also add a simple way for yes/no type settings %?Sv(show aa)<%Cd> should be able to work… Actually, brain fart time… because the settings are loaded at parse time we could probably use the feature handling code to always only parse the correct branch which would save a bunch of skin buffer and render time.

11589 | Bugs | User Interface | Very Low | Early USB broken (no statusbar & crash after disconnect... | 2010-08-31 | Marianne Arnold | 2010-11-07 | 1 |
Task Description
This bug already stands for a while and was reported in IRC but since nothing happened so far, I’m going to report it here.
On targets with early USB (”usual” looking USB screen when plugging from off-state and probably only hardware bridge USB) the statusbar that should be there in the screen is missing and when you disconnect the player so that the “rest” of Rockbox would start, it crashes.
The address where the crash happens with the build currently flashed to my Ondio is in “lib/libskin_parser.a(skin_parser.o)” - more exactly “9035954: 8b fb bf 903594e <_skin_parse+0×152>”. I pastebinned the complete disassembly of the _skin_parse function here: http://pastebin.com/LZMNW96a .
I will also try to find the exact revision that introduced the bug but that’ll take a while. If I remember correctly it came with some statusbar skinning commit which is already a while ago now and crept up twice in a row (first was fixed, then it came back). Plus it is not the easiest and no quick task testing flashed builds on the Ondio….

11549 | Bugs | Utils | Very Low | Theme Editor doesn't render Vf/Vb correctly | 2010-08-18 | Sean Inglis | 2010-11-08

If you alternately insert and remove a space between the second occurence of %Vb/%Vf, the track title text appears and disappears. It appears to happen in a few other variations, but this is the shortest concrete example.

11743 | Bugs | Themes | Very Low | odd %s behavior following %Vf tags | 2010-11-08 | Jim Billy | 2010-11-08
Task Description
I think I have experienced a bug in 3.7+ builds with WPS themes related to %Vf. If you put the %Vf on a new line, the following text is displayed, then cleared, but only if its a scrolling line, if the first line is static it is displayed properly, and subsequent lines are also displayed properly even if they are scrolling
example:
%Vl(b,0,108,176,60,1) %Vf(999999) %s%ac%?Ia<%Ia|> %s%ac%?It<%It|%Fn>
artist is displayed briefly then cleared, if you take out %s artist is displayed properly, if you put the %Vf on the same line with %vl artist is displayed properly with scrolling, if you put a static text line before the first %s line then all lines are displayed properly.
so my quick fix is to just move the %vf on the line with %vl, but this bug probalby breaks many WPS, also this worked before 3.7, not sure when it stopped working. Tested this bug with latest build:r28534-101108 and 3.7 release sansa e200 v1. (also with latest e200 simulator)
this bug was not in builds up to or prior to: r27944-100830

11702 | Patches | Codecs | Very Low | mpc filterbank synthesis optimization | 2010-10-25 | Andree Buschmann | 2010-11-10 | 9 |
Task Description
This patch resorts the v-array within mpc’s synthesis filter. Through this data is placed more locally for the performance critical function mpc_decoder_windowing_D() and allows ldm-usage in the asm’ed parts.
This first patch does work for simulation but not for ARM or CF builds. An update with more optimized ARM asm will follow, CF asm needs to be corrected by someone with knowledge on CF assembly.
The output is binary identical.

11755 | Bugs | Battery/Charging | Very Low | Battery reports 0% charge even after fully charged in R... | 2010-11-13 | Andy Smith | 2010-11-13
Task Description
URGENT/HIGH PRIORITY: Rockbox Firmware 3.7 installed with iRiver H300 1.29J.
Charging when in Rockbox mode (player switched on):
When Rockbox is running and the charger is plugged in, Rockbox can be seen charging the battery in the top left hand corner. When it is fully charged, it shows a full battery.
Charging when iRiver is powered off (player switched off):
When the charger is plugged in, the iRiver begins charging in Original Firmware mode. This is okay as the player charges correctly until Complete.
Booting into OF mode, shows a full battery charge so I can be sure it is fully charged.
However, boot back into Rockbox mode and Rockbox seems to be misreporting the battery charge as depleted - I say misreporting because at this point I know it is actually full/complete. (Booting back into OF mode would also confirm again at this point that there is indeed a full battery charge).
But run Rockbox 3.7 and after a few minutes, a false message - "Low Battery - Shutting Down" appears, after which Rockbox powers off.
I know this is inccorect, because if the battery was so low in OF, the iRiver OF would not even allow you to attempt to power back on (instead it would display a "Low Battery" picture on the display), but I can boot back into OF mode easily with no problems even after this message from Rockbox, again the OF shows a full battery and I can run it for hours with no problem so I know somewhere here there must be a miscommunication/misreading from the battery charge to the Rockbox 3.7 firmware.
Have tested this a number of times to ensure it is a fault and yes it presents itself everytime.

9088 | Patches | Plugins | Very Low | RockCW - Rockbox Morse Trainer, a proof of concept | 2008-06-12 | Joel Garske | 2010-11-14 | 10 |
Task Description
Hi there,
i am currently trying to learn the morse code. I thougt it would be fun to have rockbox as an aid, so i started to write a plugin for that.
This plugin currently has a limited functionality, but the current things are implemented:
Morsing of custom texts, typed from the rockbox keyboard
Morsing of random chars, till the battery drains (or less ;))
Input of own Call and 'morsing' the same
selection of speeds from 1-45 WPM in steps of 3
selection of chars from 5 mixable groups
letters
numbers
punctuation marks
special chars (KA,BT,AR,VE)
pauses
It would be very nice if someone tested these on some soft-codec targets. I included the source tarball (please add plugin to SOURCES and CATEGORIES if using this), a diff on r17715 and the binary .rock for the sansa c250.
Idd be very happy if, with a little help, this could move upstream. I am new to the plugin api and need some help especially in using the definitions to make this work on different DAPs (avoid building this on targets that don't support some features and so on). Correct me if i am wrong, but his should from my point of view work with all SWCODEC devices with LCD. I tried to write at least readable code and added some comments for the curious.
This builds at least on the c250 and works for me.
Thanks, Joel
Remind me, if i forgot something.

It adds basic support for the free SVox Pico speech synthesizer, which is the default speech system on Android phones, and is also available on Linux and Windows. Support for this synthesizer is very basic, because the pico2wave utility used to generate wav files of synthesized speech lacks the ability to set speed, pitch, volume, etc. This patch has so far only been tested for English, although several other languages are supported by the synthesizer. Note that you will need the SVox Pico synthesizer installed on your system. On Ubuntu 10.10 and most recent Debian-based systems, installing libttspico-utils should automatically pull down the correct files. This patch hasn't been tested on Windows, but it should work if pico2wave.exe is in your path.
To build voice files using SVox Pico, apply this patch and run
tools/configure –type=AV
Then select your target from the list. The rest of the defaults should be fine, but be sure to type "p" when the script asks for the TTS engine to use. Then run
make voice
and copy the .voice file into .rockbox/langs. The next time you start Rockbox, you should hear your voice prompts spoken using SVox Pico.
To generate talk clips for filenames and directories using SVox Pico, apply the patch and run
tools/voice.pl -C -s=pico -S= -e=rbspeexenc -E= <directory you want spoken>
Your talk files will be generated recursively in the directory you specify. All _dirname.talk and .talk files that correspond to individual files will be generated, with the exception of the _dirname.talk file for the top level directory you specified.
Please test this patch and provide any feedback you have. Thanks.

Version: r28861 Used before: r26706
Hello,
with r28861the touchscreen works with glitches. When I touch a line-item , the system sometimes don't react or the line selector just "twinkle".
My conjecture: It has somethin to do with the new "kinetic-scroll"-feature, because after a little kinetic-scroll the touch become precise.
(And yes, I've done a calibration: no effect)

Task Description
This appears to happen only on the simulator, as of r29012.
Fill a directory with, say, some .s3m files and .mod files. Mikmod plugin chokes on calloc (virtch.c, line 1227) during MikMod_Init() sequence.
Remove the .mod files and the plugin loads and works properly.
Reverting the change made to viewers.config in r29012 seems to fix this. I'm guessing the problem is somehow related to the way mod is both playable and viewable, but there's nothing obviously wrong with viewers.config that I can see. Maybe the buffers are getting screwed up somewhere in filetypes.c?

11752 | Patches | Plugins | Very Low | pitch_detector: Mixed accidentals and Key Transposition | 2010-11-12 | Robert Horn | 2011-01-15 | 3 |
Task Description
Patch against r28560.
Adds options for displaying pitches according to key (for transposing instruments) and “mixed” accidentals a la Korg (C#, Eb, F#, G#, Bb).
I’d also like to add some kind of support for alternate temperaments (perhaps even just intonation), however this isn’t trivial and I probably won’t undertake the project unless some interest is expressed.

Hi!
I’ve found very important bug in Rockbox 3.7, witch my be dangerous for both the player and the memory card (if present). It turned out that Rockbox doesn’t react to very low battery level while voice or FM radio is recorded. It causes damage to the recorded file when finally hardware falls due to lack of energy. This corrupted file is absolutely unreadable.

I modified the function “sim_open” to ouput what files it’s opening, and got the following output (see attached text file). Note that there are files “-.kbd”, “-.sbs” and “-.rsbs”. I think these files should not be opened, even tried.

Task Description
This is a preliminary patch to add the key maps needed to compile plugins for the android port. It is mostly complete.
You will need to change plugins=”yes” line 2790 of file /tools/configure but this breaks the sdl port.
Most plugins seem to work well some don’t, I have not tested all plugins yet but will start as soon I post this.
To a section to tools/configure that defines plugins=”yes” for the android port and “no” for the sdl port
Testing testing testing
patch probably breaks some targets because of logo.c defaulting to a generic keymap which I changed “commented out” and added #error No keymaps defined! so the compiler will not just over look it. Let me know what breaks and I will try to fix it.

I've hunted this down here is what I found out.
from http://developer.android.com/reference/android/view/KeyEvent.Callback.html
public abstract boolean onKeyDown (int keyCode, KeyEvent event) Since: API Level 1
Called when a key down event has occurred. If you return true, you can first call KeyEvent.startTracking() to have the framework track the event through its onKeyUp(int, KeyEvent) and also call your onKeyLongPress(int, KeyEvent) if it occurs.
We need to return true and call KeyEvent.startTracking() from /android/src/org/rockbox/RockboxFramebuffer.java then set the interrupt flag from /firmware/target/hosted/button-android.c and find out what is passed back after a key release and handle that. I may not be a great programmer but this looks like the ticket to removing the BUTTON_REL work around from /firmware/target/hosted/android/app/button-application.c
