Neither of the tools, ipodpatcher or Rockbox Utility 1.4.0, work on macOS Catalina.

Catalina removed 32bit support.

Using ipodpatcher generates the following error:

And Rockbox Utility has a white circle with a line through it indicating that it does not work with this version of the OS.

I’ve been using the latest dev builds everyday for iPod Nano 2G and still encountering “Swapped Channels” on Playback (e.g. Left Channel → Right Headphone / Right Channel → Left Headphone).

Used latest build 5785cfb-120625

The version 3.10 is stable and everything works fine, but since I upgraded to the last version 3.11 or the daily build the ipod crashes and I can't mount the device in the computer, the charging doesn't work either.

When plugging in an AC USB charger, the ipod shows rockbox's disk mode instead of just changing the "external power" icon. Is it possible to make it detect if a charger is connected, or an usb host (for example, a computer)?

Doing the same test (with the same charger) on an ipod color/4g shows the expected result (not going to usb mode, just a charger icon appears)

Build is r23841 and earlier.

Occasionally when I reboot to the iPod firmware, something has caused the previously unset alarm setting to be enabled and the playback mode is set to shuffle. This doesn't happen with every reboot, but does more than 50% of the time.

Steps to duplicate:

1. Disable the alarm and set the shuffle mode to "None" in the iPod firmware.
2. Reset and boot into Rockbox
3. Listen to a few tracks
4. Reboot into the iPod firmware and check the shuffle mode and alarm settings.

I can't confirm 100% yet as to the time on the alarm being reset as well, but it does seem to consistently read 6 AM - which is a bit of a shock if I've been listening in Rockbox during the day and then I reboot into the Apple firmware and dock in my iHome, expecting to sleep in late on the weekend.

I have an iPod 4G Grayscale (model A1059) running Rockbox 3.14 with an Apple FM remote (model A1187). The remote part works ok (Play/Select and Fwd/Rev buttons work - volume control is separate due to it being connected to the line out, but works).

However, the radio menu does not show up in the main menu when connected. Not when I boot with the remote connected, not when I connect it after booting, and not if I go to a different menu and then back.

In the debugging menu, it simply says that the FM tuner hardware is not found.

I am sure that this used to work at some point. Are there known regressions?

I've been using the development version of Rockbox in my ipod classic 6th generation for about two years I think, but from some time, like a month or two, I'm experiencing playback issues as the track I'm listening suddenly skip forward or backward, or even jump for a few seconds on another mp3 file inside the ipod I was just listening before. I don't think is a ipod issue because I can listen the file inside the ipod with my computer player without problems.

There some way I can check older development revisions for the classic? It appears that it doesn't show in the dev build link on the site because is not fully supported. Thanks

After setting the “Charge During USB Connection” Rockbox setting to “no”, the battery in my iPod Classic still gets charged whenever connecting the iPod to my PC via USB. From the iPod Video manual:

“This option lets you control whether the player should charge during the USB connection and hence draw the full 500 mA. Turning it Off is recommended if the player is connected through an unpowered USB hub or a laptop port.”

I would expect the battery NOT to get charged. Running Rockbox dev build 9576134.

When I connect my rockboxed iPod Classic via Line Out (Apple Dock or Fiio Line Out Adapter) I’m getting heavy distorted with clipping an low volume sound. Headphones out its working while connected to the dock.

Same reported in the mailing list (http://www.rockbox.org/mail/archive/rockbox-archive-2012-10/0006.shtml). Stock firmware, and rockboxed iPod Video (5.5G) working with the same setting.

I have no programing knowledge, but I’m willing to help!!

I have installed Rockbox build 0F89B04-160628 using this (https://files.freemyipod.org/~user890104/bootloader-ipodclassic.html) method.

I have created a dynamic playlist (Database > long select artist > current playlist > Queue Shuffled). Play and then pause the music and then hold the play button down to shutdown rockbox. Plug in USB cable from your computer (Win10) in to the iPod and the iPod should start powering on and then a white *panic* screen should appear.

Workaround is to have Rockbox already fully booted before plugging in a USB cable from the computer.

Hi all!
After 3.10 update I usually get my player frozen with usb plug icon if I connect it to any USB host while the player is off.
Steps to reproduce the issue:
1. Power off the iPod.
2. Plug it to Usb host. (tested with mac and Android)
3. Wait the system to boot.
4. It freezes with usb connect icon (no menu bar). Only holding Menu+Select help.

This occurs on Stable 3.8.1 and all builds currently up to Tuesday, May 10, 2011 (r29850-110510).

When my iPod 3G is powered on with no song in the queue to be resumed, and the "resume Playback" item is selected, the screen flickers, the quick glimpse of the selected Now Playing theme can be seen (for me, DancePuffDuo, but also confirmed for every other one I've tried) and it returns me back to the Main Menu without any warning… just an abrupt return.

I've reinstalled stable as well as various builds leading up to the date above and all have the same effect.

The way to reproduce this bug is to Play a single song from the database that is by itself (in the artist/album category of your choosing, or, the last song in an artist/album grouping) and then, after it is done playing and returns you to the database or main menu, shut down and restart Rockbox. Select the Resume Playback item on the Main Menu. The screen should flicker and abruptly return you to the Main Menu without any warning that there is nothing to resume playing.

This bug does not reproduce with the iPod 3G simulator with 05/10/2011's build (r29850-110510).

The rockbox behaviour when plugging in a firewire cable is to automatically reboot into disk-mode, preventing charging whilst running rockbox.

rockbox 3.5: ipod doesn’t recognize the connection of usb. i understand that rockbox doesn’t support usb on a 3G ipod, but it would be nice to boot into disk-mode like it does for firewire.

I downloaded this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lrb0dHKJBR4 using the youtube-dl python program. The file plays and seeks correctly in foobar2000 and MPC-HC. But, on my clip+, whether I seek 10 seconds or 10 minutes into the file, it ends up playing a position of the file previous to the one displayed. For example, if I seek 50 seconds forward from the beginning, it will play the file from the start, while the screen still displays as if it's playing from 50 seconds onwards. Seeking to the end of the file will have it play a section from about 2 minutes earlier than it should be, while the time display and music will continue until 1:14:20, with the file actually being 1:12:46.

I did not hear the files being played slower than they should be, so it seems it's only an issue when seeking.

I've confirmed this happens on every AAC file downloaded by youtube-dl, and that re-encoding the same file to AAC using NERO encoder makes the problem dissapear.

In the "Graphic Equalizer" menu and when I connect the player to a computer to transfer the data labels are displayed incorrectly (instead of letters symbols, as in the screenshot).
The problem occurs when I use the Russian language.
The problem I see for a long time, please fix it.

in version 3.10 chessbox plugin doesn't recognize .pgn files in the file menu and so cannot be used as a .pgn reader anymore.

The settings submenu with the playlist viewer settings like “show icons”, “show indices” and “track display” to select between file name only and full path for playlist entries is not available in the playlist viewer menu in the Android version.

So these settings cannot be changed.

This happens in all version I tried until now (latest was a12b2a5).

In Rockbox for Android it is not possible to highlight an entry in a list without selecting (entering) it.

For example, if I am in the playlist viewer showing the list of just playing songs with my ipod (running rockbox) I was able to scroll through the list which moved the higligting bar through the list and then I could select the desired entry by pressing enter. With the touchscreen I found no way only to highlight a certain entry.

This is important if all entries are very long and have the same starting text. For example "Ludwig von Beethoven, Symphony No. 9 - 1. Adagio" cannot be distinguished from "Ludwig von Beethoven, Symphony No. 9 - 2. Andante" in the playlist viewer since the distinguishing part is cut off. With my ipod I could highlight the entries with the scroll wheel and the highlighted line started horizontally scrolling so I could see the complete text. With the Android port I can only touch the line, but touching the line does not only highlight it but also selects it and so starts playing.

This problem also exists in other list with long entries and happens with all version I compiled until now (latest was a12b2a5).

Expected sorting by artist name, then by album and then by track number, but now all songs by all artists sorting by track names in alphabetical order.

Bug exists in the DEV builds for, at least, Sansa Clip+, Sansa Fuze+, and iPod Video for at least a year, although I cannot confirm this as I've only just now tracked down the problem. The issue was discovered because imagemagick occasionally selects 1x2,1x2,1x2 as the chroma sampling factor when converting an image.

To recreate this bug, convert any image using imagemagick to a JPEG with that chroma sampling factor and attempt to view it in Rockbox. What you will see is a nonsensical image to the size of the original JPEG. Any desktop image viewer, like eyeofgnome, renders the picture correctly.

I've also included a sample Rockbox logo generated in the faulty fashion along with this bug. To create it, run this command in a Unix-like with imagemagick and curl installed: 'curl -J -L "https://www.rockbox.org/rockbox400.png" | convert - -sampling-factor 1x2,1x2,1x2 -quality 100 folder.jpg'

The Idle Poweroff only reboots my 1G iPod. I assume it should power it off or put it into a power saving mode. This forces it to use up the battery faster then normal unless I set the Hold button to boot into the iPod firmware to do a proper suspend when Rockbox reboots.

Setting the Idle Poweroff setting seems to work just fine initially because the player ceases to respond to any input. However, when you push the power button back up to turn it on, the screen lights up and says “Shutting down…” for a few seconds before actually powering off. You then have to push the power button back on to turn it on proper.

An idle power off can occur in recording mode. When it does, data loss occurs. This has already bitten me a few times.

Steps to reproduce (on battery, not charging):
1. Execute Settings > Manage Settings > Reset Settings
2. Set Settings > General Settings > Startup/Shutdown > Idle Poweroff to 1 minute
3. Reboot
4. Go to Recording mode
5. Note current Volume and Gain settings and then change them to something else and note the new settings. Don't start a recording; just leave it in “stop” mode (*not* record or record-pause).
6. Wait for automatic power off
7. Power back on and check recorder settings

Expected: Settings are what they were after being changed.
Actual: Settings reverted to what they were on boot.

This can cause the loss of entire recordings, too:

8. Go back to Recording mode.
9. Wait until just before Rockbox would power off, then start a recording (if the display goes to sleep, it comes back on a bit before powering off; start the recording as soon as it comes back on).

Expected: Recording is done as usual
Actual: Rockbox powers off anyway, without warning, less than a minute into the recording. The recording is lost (or if the file is there, it's unplayable; maybe this depends on the recording format used).

Dear Rockbox, long story short after doing update to the latest daily build c6d5cd7(2017-09-11), after playing music for around 30-40 minutes the screen start to freeze cannot scroll or select anything on the screen even turn it off is not possible but after few seconds it turn off by itself and can be turn on normally after that.

Back button does not work, and sometimes the same function as the forward button.
Rewind button does not work
Of course, I am talking about are the physical buttons，Touch buttons are working properly。

I have been using Rockbox for almost 2 years now on my X5L together with the remote and I have frequently updated to the current version, so I am familiar with how it works.

I have noticed that after updating to version 20090221, my X5’s remote’s LCD behaves erratically (strange lines being displayed all over, vertically shaky image) right after booting Rockbox, then the display turns off completely after a few seconds. Strangely though, the controls still work and the blue display light comes on when working the controls, but the display is turned off (there is nothing being displayed, as if the player were turned off). If I unplug and reconnect the remote, the remote’s LCD comes on, but soon turns off again. The X5’s main LCD is working just fine.

I thought that my remote was dying on me, but decided to check if it was somehow related to the development of Rockbox. I reverted back one build after another and found that the last build that works OK for my remote is 20090210. So, in all the builds starting with 20090211 (I have thoroughly checked all from 20090211 to 20090225), the remote is practically unusable. I looked at the changes done on that day (http://www.rockbox.org/daily/changelogs/changes-20090211.html), but could not single out the probable cause.

since 3.8 after a while the display blanks totally, no gui. only restarting the device makes it available again for a short
screen, navigation is basically impossible.

Using the latest revision (r20001 - but its been broken since I started using Rockbox) the iAudio M3 does not recharge the battery using either the USB or the Power adapter.

The only way I can get the iAudio M3 to charge is to use Cowon’s firmware.

If Rockbox is connected via USB with no sd card inserted and it is inserted, it offers the OS to mount the new drive.
If the sd card is removed and reinsterted again, it fails to offer and recognize it.

I could locate the problem in firmware/usbstack/usb_storage.c in the line

if(inserted && check_disk_present(IF_MD(volume))) {

after reinserting the card, check_disk_present fails to return true, so this check fails and the card isn't recognized anymore.

On my iPod Classic (160GB), the hold switch is not being detected anymore by Rockbox.
Switching the hold switch does cause the buttons to stop responding and vice versa, but Rockbox is unaware of this event and continues to act as if it didn't happen. My backlight won't turn off when I switch hold like it's supposed to, and I can't exit plugins that have a hold switch activated menu like RockBoy.

I am using build c3c2c91, I just updated today.
This bug has been present since as early as January, and I am aware that a task already exists for it, but it's buried deep because the poster marked it as Low severity.

I have Rockbox (Development version Revision 9a5f7ce). Rockbox music playback was crystal clear, however after few days of use, a constant static background hiss/static noise can be heard.

Rockbox 3.1.3 on Clip+ (also iriver h140/340. also previous versions of rockbox).

Some HE-AAC files play back at half speed.

Not very long ago I got iPod Nano 2 gen 8gb, installed rockbox and encountered this strange behavior:

After pushing and releasing Hold button player doesn't react on wheel. When I'm trying to use some other button(Menu, for example), nothing happens. After third attempt to use a button Rockbox does button context properly, showing me what I wanted to see a few clicks ago. What happens with interface after using Hold? When I return to 'Now playing' screen throughout Menu, all works fine. But right after using Hold button I can't nor increase/decrease volume, neither move in a menu list.

H120 not starting original IRiver Firmware with LCD Remote holding Rec + Play Button both on LCD-Remote.

The H10 5G MTP needs a different bootloader than the UMS version (see http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IriverH10PortDevInfo#Build_a_Rockbox_Bootloader).
I’m not sure about the correct way to do this in configure, so I’ll leave it to someone who is.

Accessory: Griffin iFM Radio Receiver for iPhone and iPod - has a doc connector, short cable to a "dongle" which is the FM tuner, with earphone jack on the dongle. No batteries or other power source.

Booting into Apple firmware
1. Turned player on with nothing plugged in, the "Radio" menu item does not show up. Plugged in the Griffin iFM, the "Radio" menu item shows up, and when I select it, I get the FM frequency and dial, I can tune it, it works. I did not have to download anything at all from the Apple iTunes store.

2. Turned player on with iFM plugged in - the "Radio" menu item shows up, and from there it all works as above.

Booting into Rockbox OS 1. Turned player on with nothing plugged in, then plugged the iFM on the dock connector, the "FM Radio" item never shows up.

2. Turned player on with iFM plugged in, still no "FM Radio" on the menu.

3. Went into System then Debug then FM Radio - got message: "HW Detected: no"

So Rockbox does not detect it at all. And there's no sense expecting that any Apple/iTunes software would do anything under Rockbox.

What's interesting is, that with the player off (under both Apple and Rockbox OS), if I only plug in the Griffin iFM to the dock connector, and do nothing else, the player turns on. So there must be some kind of hardware detection there.

Actual behavior:

1. FM Tuner option never shows up on main menu (whether powering up with FM Tuner plugged in, or plugging in after power up).

2. When player is OFF, connecting the FM Tuner to the dock port turns on the player.

3. In System/Debug/FM Tuner, "HW Detected" is always "no"

Expected behavior:
1. Expected the FM Tuner option to be available on the main menu (at least when booting with the accessory plugged in to the dock port) as described in the manual.

2. Expecting to be able to tune in to FM stations and play at least through the tuner's headphones connector, if not through the player's headphones connector. Other features (displaying song information, presets, etc.) are secondary (to me).

If I set my Gigabeat F20 touchpad sensitivity to High, the touchpad and all buttons stop working - except for the long POWER action which shuts down in the normal manner.

I then need to reset settings on boot (or connect to a PC and edit them) to restore usability.

If other owners could try this out, I'd be interested - it may be that I have a stuck button under the touchpad, of course.

Checked that it isn’t something to do with the HDD
sometimes after USB transfer or just right after startup, after pressing “Resume playback” it just halts there,showing the album art and sometimes you can change songs/volume but it isn’t playing,then it just freezes and you cannot control anything that needs to be turned off via power switch, and sometimes it requires certain trials before it can normally startup and play.
Additionally, if that happens during startup, it is noticeable that a normal startup produces sort of a background noise,while a buggy startup is simply silent in my headphone.

This bug is sporatic “the worst kind”, has effected a 4gb fuze+ “foolsh in IRC” and an 8gb fuze+ “DmL in IRC“, but also has been confirmed to be absent from one other 4gb fuze+

Rockboy data aborts on menu key press, when the srceen is rotated left and image is stretched across the whole srceen. Also no matter what key is mapped to the menu entry it will still fail.

It never fails when aspect ratio is maintained with scale or when not scaled at all, and never aborts when rotated right or not at all.

Only four files even mention rotate in the apps/plugins/rockboy/ directory “lcd.c menu.c rockmacros.h and sys_rockbox.c”

Sometimes the failure does not happen and reaching the menu is possible, but the rockboy option file may get written and not allow the user back into the menu later to change the rotate option back. When this happens the option file must be edited or erased to make rockboy work again normally.

Playback halts.
No error screen appears – screen seems to stay where it is when freeze occurs, i.e. WPS or back light off.

Tested multiple audio formats.

Does not occur if no head phones are plugged in.

If you play a song for a bit at low volume (tested -14dB) before raising the volume, it is okay.

To reproduce:
Find a loud, bass-heavy part of a song, and halt playback right there.
Set volume to 6dB.
Set bass to 14.
Resume playback.

Usually freezes in less than a second when I do that.

This is a post that another user put in the forums that pretty much describes the problems I'm having exactly:

" I have a v1 sansa fuze and been using rockbox since 3.8.1 first came out.I just upgraded to 3.9,did not mess with a-n-y setting at all,pc is windows vista (latest sp).Whenever i drag and drop folders with mp3s in them(be it 58 mb or 300 mb or 600 mb) it starts to copy but halfway through,the process just freezes,clicking cancel freezes the windows explorer for 10 seconds then cancels it.Even worse,when i go check out my sansa fuze at my computer,it's recognized but when i click on it,shows as empty!? so i disconnect safely,theeeen….device needs a hard reset.So i say ok this has happened once or twice before but guess what? it happened again…5 TIMES each on 3 different usb ports.Uninstalled rockbox,went back to official firmware and it's all normal…

So i changed the screen to be always on during plugged in and this is the error i get

I am running Windows 7 64-bit and experiencing the same issues. If the player doesn't lock outright, it gives the same error white screen described above. This seems to happen more frequently when copying folders that contain folders themselves, but I've had the problem occur on copying just one folder with no subfolders.

Description:
If the “Bookmark on Stop” option is set to “Yes” and there is no free space left on the storage, rockbox freezes/takes a REALLY long time if pressing the Poweoff(=Stop) button, because it cannot save the bookmark(or has to push out the less recent?).

I wondered why rockbox crashed if doing this til I discovered this bug.

Expected behavoiur: Instantls notify user there’s no space left and don’t save the bookmark

How to reproduce:
1. Power on the player, launch rockbox. Make sure there’s enough disk space.
2. Go Settings→General Settings→Bookmarking→Bookmark on Stop→Set to “Yes” 3. Reboot, connect to PC
4. Create a text file which is big enough to consume the rest of your free disk space
5. Restart Sansa into rockbox
6. Play a track
7. Press poweroff (short)

Some containers, like Matroska MKA or like Ogg can contain numerous audio tracks, for example the whole AudioCD contained within single Ogg file.

For example VideoLAN.org plays such files ok, while fails to show separate tracks/tags in playlist.

However, RockBox justs freezes and until reboot can no longer play music (each file is detected as having zero duration)

Recently I have been noticing a problem with themes that allow radio station logos to be displayed on the FMS screen. This is most noticeable with the analog and Fuzemod themes. While the logo displays properly, other images on the screen do not. In the case of the analog theme, the VU meter appears corrupted and with the Fuzemod theme the battery animation, tuning bar slider and playmode indicator icons fail to appear as expected. This problem was not present when either of these themes was used with the releases before version 3.12. In fact this bug appears to have been introduced by one of the experimental daily development builds either in May or June. I have tried different sets of radio station logos and preset lists with these themes but I always get the same result when using version 3.12; everything is fine with any previous release. Since this problem occurs with two different themes along with any combination of radio station logos and preset lists, I can only conclude that it originates with the firmware.

I have attached to this report three generic radio station logos in bitmap format along with a generic preset list. You can put these into /.rockbox/fmpresets and try your own tests. Since the frequencies were selected at random, don’t expect them to tune in anything. Besides, there is nothing wrong with the ability of the Rockbox firmware to tune in radio stations or play their music. The problem starts as soon as the user starts flipping through the station presets, so don’t be shy about changing the station frequently during your tests. I also find that in order to accurately reproduce this problem the Sansa Fuze v2 should be powered off then on again whenever a new theme or preset list is loaded.

With my theme “lebellium Samsung-like” for Clip Zip there are some display issues in FMS, more precisely the status bar, while the code is the same as in WPS and SBS. See the pics in attachment.

After bisecting, I found out that the 1st bad commit is acf3af4 by JdGordon: radio: fix  FS#12747  http://git.rockbox.org/?p=rockbox.git;a=commit;h=acf3af4
