Task Description
While I am playing some song on my iPod classic 2G, and scrolling through a list (even the main menu, but the glitch there is somehow different), if I unplug and then replug the headphones, some of the WPS UI gets drawn over the current view. I'm attaching a screenshot to make it more clear. It only happens while playing a song. I'm using build bf6abf7 (most recent at the moment). Also attaching my config.

12711 | Bugs | Settings | Very Low | Some settings do not work properly from shortcut menu | 2012-06-30 | Oscar | 2012-06-30
Task Description
Settings such as "eq enabled" and "replaygain type" do not apply to a playing track when selected from shortcut menu, although the setting does appear to have changed when checking in the settings menu. The audio remains unchanged when changing the settings. However, when changing the same settings via the settings menu they function correctly (e.g. audio noticeably changes from loud to quiet after a few seconds).
Also, while displaying "debug info" on the wps, I noticed that %rg (replaygain value in dB) DOES change when the replaygain is changed via the shortcut menu, even though the audio doesn't change. (Both %rg and the audio change when the same setting is changed via the settings menu).
NB Some settings DO work, such as bass and treble.
Problem noticed on Sansa Clip Zip (build 2f1da04-120627), UiSimulator of Sansa Clip Zip (build fa17cb9M-120627).

The USB icon is displayed briefly, followed immediately by the white screen - Undefined Instruction at 0000003C. This is repeatable. Recovery is via a power down.
Note: the USB connection works fine with the current stable release 3.11.2 and this is the first daily build I have tried,

Task Description
I’m using 42a725f, and after frequency scaling implementation, sometimes the player slowdown extremely, being unusable (don’t stop playing, only small gaps in audio occur). Less frequently, the player freezes.
I noticed it’s happens more frequently if the device is just powered on, and hits play. If I wait a few seconds before resuming play, the freezes are less frequent.
- How often does this happen? * Frequently, about 2 o 3 times a day (4 hour average playback time, with several shutdown/boot in the middle)
- playing which file format (mp3, ogg, flac, mpc, etc…)? * Confirmed with mp3 and flac
- which lcd is your device? *st7783

12839 | Bugs | Settings | Very Low | Enable EQ setting doesn't work except on restart | 2013-03-09 | Jeremy Cayot | 2013-03-09
Task Description
Changing “Enable EQ” setting does nothing until the player is restarted. However, selecting an EQ preset does enable the EQ and take affect within a few seconds. With the new 3.13 presets I am working around this issue by simply selecting the “Flat” EQ config file to “Turn Off” the EQ. I have tried stopping playback and skipping around to other tracks forcing the buffer to refill. That doesn’t work.
I don’t know when the bug was introduced except that testing 3.11 on my Gigabeat F proved it WAS NOT present in 3.11.
I have verified the bug in 3.13 on all of these targets, so at this time I’m saying this affects all players.
Confirmed on Fuze v2, Clip v1, Clip +, Clip Zip, Gigabeat F

12982 | Bugs | Operating System/Drivers | Very Low | partition table unsupported (and bugfully ignored) on s... | 2014-06-03 | Andrew Engelbrecht | 2014-06-06 | 1 |
Task Description
if i format the clip+'s microsd card to contain a DOS partition table, then the vfat formatted partition is not recognized.
if i format the sd card with a vfat fs starting at the first block, then the fs is recognized by rockbox.
** if i then reformat the sd card with a partition table like above, then the second fs i created is still recognized by rockbox, even though the first 512 bytes or so have been clobbered. the result is that rb and my laptop see different fs structures, and clobber each other's metadata, causing corrupt file systems.
the work-around is to dd if=/dev/zero the beginning of the sd card and format without partitions.
i kindly request that rb support dos, or some other, partition table, and maybe that rb doesn't mount fs'es which appear to be clobbered by a partition table. one problem with this change is that some people may be using a clobbered fs without knowing. with such a patch, they could end up seeing a corrupt fs instead.
i don't consider this very high priority. thanks for the awesome firmware!

Task Description
I store the album art by putting a folder.jpg file in the album's directory. Any WPS on other players shows the cover pictures properly if album art is enabled in the theme.
I am aware of caveats like progressive jpgs, that are not supported by RB.
In the attached zip file, there are four directories with a folder.jpg file and a free opus file for demonstration purposes.
All pictures show up fine on my Sansa E200 (v1) using CabbieV2 or lebellium_Samsung-like. However, on my XduOO x3ii the pictures are not displayed for the examples 1 - 3, but show for example 4.
None of the jpgs are progressive and I cannot figure out a difference between 1-3 and 4.
I don't know how to debug this further myself, but would be happy doing any furter experiments.
This is true for the current dev builds, e.g. b450707955.

5757 | Patches | Drivers | Very Low | Correctly display short DOS file names in file browser | 2006-08-01 | Alexander Levin | 2006-08-05 | 3 |
Task Description
This is a sequel for FS#5736 . It correctly displays the OEM-encoded short DOS file names.
Following code pages are supported: cp850 (western Europe), cp852 (central Europe), cp737 (greek), cp866 (cyriliic), cp862 (hebrew).
If you change the default code page (in the settings menu) and there are files that are displayed with the short DOS names, you’d better rebuild the dir cache (if it’s activated) since the UTF8-name of the file changes.
When I compile the modified sources, I get the following warning which I don’t understand: CC common/unicode.c common/unicode.c:136: warning: function declaration isn’t a prototype
Could anyone tell me what that means and what the reason is?

8295 | Patches | Database | Very Low | database integration of pictureflow | 2007-12-10 | Robert Kukla | 2009-03-07 | 3 |
Task Description
This is the first step of being able to use the pictureflow plugin from a database search. The database now indexes the path to the coverimage for each audio file. In the database browser you can select “Cover by...” genre, artist, composer, year or all and will be presented with a list of cover image paths. (Imagine a call to the pictureflow plugin at this stage, so instead of a list of boring paths you get nice and shiny images). After selecting a path it will display the list of files that would be queued when a cover image is picked in the plugin.
Next step is to work out how to safely call the plugin without losing the context and utilise the return value from it to queue the files.
Issues so far are:
- the preferred size of 100×100 is hardcoded (this should be configurable or at least be consistent with the value in the pictureflow the db update for covers has the same restrictions as the other tags, i.e. it will only detect changed cover art on the coverflow plugin needs to work while music is playing (or stop playback if needs since there is no guaranteed relation between album name and image file, the album name can’t be displayed

9501 | Bugs | Applications | Very Low | severe screen corruption on H300 | 2008-10-21 | Khashayar Naderehvandi | 2008-10-22
Task Description
I have just now installed the latest stable version of rockbox (that would be 3.0) on an iriver h340. Unfortunately, it’s unusable at the moment due to some serious screen corruption. It sort of looks like this picture: http://img54.imageshack.us/img54/2263/iriver3qs.jpg, but is so much worse that it’s impossible to navigate the menus. If I wait for the backlight to go off, and then press a button, the screen looks fine until I start navigating, at which point the corruption resurfaces.
I’m really excited about rockbox, but this bug is a showstopper for me at the moment.
Thanks for looking into it!

Rockbox port of XAttax (which is in turn X port of some ancient arcade game). It’s a strategy game similar to Reversi, played agains AI opponent.
The rules should be obvious once you run it. You can place new stone next to you own stones, or you can move already placed stone over a cell. Moved or newly places stone changes color of all adjacent stones. The player who has more stones at the end wins.

9879 | Patches | Plugins | Very Low | Quit the lamp plugin by pressing a dedicated QUIT butto... | 2009-02-07 | Alexander Levin | 2009-02-09 | 1 |
Task Description
As of r19940, the lamp plugin is quit by pressing any key besides some which have a function in that plugin (or so is the intention –see bug report FS#9877 ).
This patch changes the plugin so that it’s left with a special button only. The patch also adds key definitions for some players that haven’t been included before (players without color LCD). Key mappings were taken from the patch in FS#8934.
Essentially, this patch implements an atomic part of that patch.
Also, correct handling of USB has been added.
This is in preparation of a (separate) patch for toggling the light on and off without leaving the plugin.

10776 | Bugs | Operating System/Drivers | Very Low | ROLO issues on ARM v4/v5 targets | 2009-11-11 | Rob Purchase | 2010-01-27
Task Description
ROLO currently fails on these targets unless a Rockbox image is being loaded that is sufficiently similar to the one already in memory.
The sequence goes like this:
- rolo_load() loads the new image to rolo_restart() copies the new image to the start of DRAM (to achieve this without crashing, this function is in rolo_restart() tries to call invalidate_idcache(), but since invalidate_idcache() is in DRAM this fails as the function has been overwritten.
There are several solutions to this:
1) Move invalidate_idcache() into .icode (easy but won’t fix all targets, esp. those that don’t use IRAM)
2) Create a new .safecode section at the end of DRAM, and move these functions into it (lots of work to update every app.lds and crt0.S, and test every target)
3) Introduce target-specific rolo_restart() functions, as per imx31/rolo_restart.S (less work, as only one should be required per architecture, eg ARMv4/5 etc.)
I’m not sure which of those options is “best”. 1) is certainly the easiest, but 2) and 3) should also allow ROLO to work on targets that don’t use IRAM.

10896 | Bugs | Font/charset | Very Low | Changed default codepage is applied only afterl reboot | 2010-01-06 | Tomer Shalev | 2010-05-05
Task Description
Tested on r24190-100105
To reproduce: - Start Rockbox, default setting - Play a file with ID3 tags which are encoded in some non-Latin locale (In my case, Hebrew). Notice that the strings are shown in Gibberish. - Change Default Codepage to the other locale (e.g. Hebrew). - Go back to WPS
Expected result: All strings that are encoded in the other locale are shown properly. Current result: All these strings are shown in the original locale.
Workaround: Restart the player. The new locale is applied.
I will not have time to fix this myself, so I'll appreciate if someone else can take responsibility for this bug. Thanks.

10916 | Patches | Simulator | Very Low | Add usb capability to simulator on Linux hosts | 2010-01-17 | amaury pouly | 2010-02-07 | 4 |
Task Description
This patch adds to the simulator the ability to simulate usb on a Linux host. To do this, you'll need to download, build and install a device driver. You can download it here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/usb-vhci/files/ Just download the "linux kernel module". See install instruction in it but it's make && make install. Of course you'll need root rights. There also a wiki about it (http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/usb-vhci/index.php?title=Main_Page)
Now to have usb simulation works correctly you'll of course need to load the driver modprobe vhci-hcd And you'll probably need to edit the access rights of the device control device: violent example: chmod 0666 /dev/vhci-ctrl other example: chown root:<myself> /dev/vhci-ctrl Or you can add a udev rule if you can make this work.
You can then run the simulator normally (note the the detection is at runtime so you don't need to have it work before launching the simulator). Press 'u' to simulate usb insertion and 'u' once more the simulate usb removal.
Some miscellaneous remarks: -the patch enables usb hid but for some reasons it doesn't work in main menu. However, the remote_control plugins works -the patch enables usbserial which of no interest here but a way to test bulk transfers -the patch DOESN'T enable usbstorage because storage simulation is a stub currently.
If it doesn't work, you can still uncomment this line in usb-drc.c: /*#define USB_VHCI_DRIVER_DEBUG*/ And this line in usb-core.c: /*#define LOGF_ENABLE*/ But beware ! Your console will end up full of obscure messages.
I'm particulary interested in compile feedback under Windows and OSX. And of course I'm interested in working feedback ranging from device detection to working state (HID and usbserial) for example.

11031 | Bugs | Plugins | Very Low | Brickmania: Game doesn't load well | 2010-02-17 | Tomer Shalev | 2010-02-19 | 2 |
Task Description
When loading a saved Brickmania game, the game is loaded corrupted. Please see screenshot attached to see for yourself. There is one brick in the right side which is shown corrupted, and one corrupted rectangle in the left side of the screen which drops like a power object, and stays at the bottom of the screen.
This issue happens on Cowon D2 target. It doesn't happen on the D2's simulator.
Looking at the code and comparing the loading/saving function against the Bubble's game functions, I can see that the return value of file operations is not checked (I'll fix that). In Bubbles, there's a single file operation of reading/writing the game context struct. In Brickmania there are several consequent file operation to read/write each variable. Maybe the drivers doesn't handle this well on this target. A workaround for that could possibly be to join all saved variables under one game context struct as in Bubbles, but that could mask a real bug somewhere else.

11545 | Patches | Games | Very Low | Chopper improvements | 2010-08-16 | Michael Marley | 2010-08-26 | 2 |
Task Description
This patch contains several improvements to the Chopper game designed to make it run with a high framerate instead of a low, jerky one. Previously, the game depended on sleeping for a number cycles before drawing another frame, causing very jerky motion. Now the game should run at a high framerate all the time. The gameplay should be about the same, at least on targets with a display of >64px. I don’t have any of these smaller targets, so I wasn’t able to test. Please tell me what you think of my changes.

11564 | Patches | Themes | Very Low | new tag to talk other tags | 2010-08-23 | Jonathan Gordon | 2010-08-24 | 1 |
Task Description
This patch reimplements FS#11541 using the skin engine.
new skin tag %Vx(params) will talk whatever is in the params (unlimited….).. Params can be any string or other skin tag (no conditionals just yet). if the first option is - it will shutup anything currently talking. otherwise - is a voiced pause. otherwise the only special string is the word “text” which says to spell the next tag (used when the value of the tag is usable in a conditional, i.e %cP need talk or you will get “1” or “2” :/ ).
quick examples: %?mh<%Vx(-, %cl,-, %cM, text, %cP)> ← Talk the current hour, minute, am/pm when hold is toggled.
%?pE(15)<%?It<%Tx(-, %Ia, -, %It)» ← untested but should spell the next tracks title and artist when there is 15s left of the current track

11622 | Patches | Rbutil | Very Low | Improved Synthesis of talk clips for CamelCased files a... | 2010-09-11 | Steve Clarke | 2010-09-11 | 1 |
Task Description
The Rockbox utility generates its talk files and directory files using the filename and directory names.
If the filenames do not contain spaces, but are CamelCased, they are currently synthesized badly, for example: “I Do I Do I Do” gets pronounced eeedoyeeedoyeeedoy.
The patch to the rbutil/base/talkfile.cpp processes CamelCased filenames and directory names just before synthesis and produces much better sounding talk clips.

The resulting valgrind trace looks like this: ==22619== Invalid read of size 4 ==22619== at 0x407FDA: do_menu (menu.c:555) ==22619== by 0x41B198: miscscrn (root_menu.c:323) ==22619== by 0x41B377: load_screen (root_menu.c:520) ==22619== by 0x41B72A: root_menu (root_menu.c:688) ==22619== by 0x406DFA: main (main.c:196) ==22619== Address 0x0 is not stack'd, malloc'd or (recently) free'd
Question: Should we protect against "menu→submenus" being NULL or should the menu system hide empty menus without any items at all?
Cheers, Thomas

12047 | Bugs | User Interface | Very Low | WPS on startup doesn't work on iPod Video | 2011-04-06 | Ophir Lojkine | 2011-08-15 | 1 |
Task Description
On my iPod video, when I choose to load the WPS on startup (either in the Settings menu or in the alarm menu), it doesn't work. The player stays on the main (root?) screen.
I had to tweak root_menu.c (which I join) to get the alarm to work with the WPS. This is not a patch, but a quick and dirty workaround that I did just to be waked up on time tomorrow…

12073 | Patches | Database | Very Low | Dynamically add files to database as they are played | 2011-04-18 | sideral | 2011-04-19 | 2 |
Task Description
These experimental patches dynamically add new tracks to the database when they are played. This allows users who (for various reasons [1]) prefer to not fully initialize the database to take advantage of database-based features such as autoresume (remember a resume position for each file), runtime statistics, or track ratings.
The current patch set is only a prototype. It's still somewhat inefficient because it does a full database commit and reload for each new track that is played.
The actual database-extension patch (patch 0002) works by refactoring tagcache_build to create a new interface, tagcache_add_file, that adds a single file to the database. This new function runs in the database thread and takes a dircache_entry pointer, which is provided by way of a Q_UPDATE event. The audio thread generates this event in tagtree_buffer_event when the initial DB lookup fails, and later checks the database again in tagtree_track_finish_event. If the DB commit and reload have succeeded in the meantime, this second lookup will succeed and the runtime information the user is interested in (stats, resume info) can be stored in the DB.
Patch 0001 changes the DB commit's buffer-allocation preference from using the dircache buffer to using the RAM DB's buffer. (This used to be the preference until r10003 reversed it, supposedly because the dircache buffer typically is bigger. I don't know yet how valid this argument is today.) This reversal avoids needlessly flushing and refilling the dircache and makes the Q_UPDATE event-passing mechanism more robust (because in-flight update events contain dircache_entry pointers, which would have to be invalidated when the dircache is flushed – which is not done yet).
Current limitations/caveats: * Requires dircache and Load-DB-to-RAM enabled (and only works on targets that include these features) * tagcache_add_file does not respect any database.[un]ignore files in the directory hierarchy above the added new file. * DB needs to be initialized to begin with. There's no UI function for a basic DB initialization (without scanning and adding all files) yet. * Not very thoroughly tested (mostly in simulator, with small file sets)
Possible improvements: * Delay committing DB changes if more track-add events are in the tagcache queue * Incremental commit: Could be optimized for add-one-track case * Incremental load_tagcache: Avoid flushing and reloading full database * Add function to initialize an empty DB
Comments welcome!
Footnote: [1] Reasons for not using the database, or not keeping it up to date, include: metadata parser instability; prefer not keep tags up to date; prefer file browser over database browser

12080 | Patches | Music playback | Very Low | Scrobbledroid API support for Android | 2011-04-25 | Matt Muscari | 2011-05-22 | 1 |
Task Description
Adding last.fm scrobbling support to the Android version via one of the existing Android Last.fm apps is actually very easy - the log file approach doesn't seem to be compatible with e.g. the actual Last.fm app. Last.fm supports the scrobbledroid api. Adding scrobbledroid intents into the RunForegroundManager class adds support for scrobbling in about 10 lines of code. Attached is a patch to add in the appropriate intent creation and sending. This code could be modified to allow toggling via the settings page, but I don't know much about the native framebuffer code for the UI that is used by rockbox for android. I leave that to somebody else to implement if this is deemed to be too inflexible. I just want to submit this code so that others may enjoy last.fm support without having to jump through hoops to upload log files to last.fm on Android devices.

12192 | Patches | Operating System/Drivers | Very Low | Introduce bsearch() and use it in tagtree.c. | 2011-07-18 | Thomas Martitz | 2011-10-18 | 1 |
Task Description
bsearch() is a general purpose binary search function for arrays. It's supposedly faster than looping over arrays. The array needs to be sorted in ascending order under the provided comparison function. If the key and array element are of the same kind, then the same compare function can be used for qsort() and bsearch().
Code taken from glibc.

So, is anyone interested?

12219 | Bugs | Database | Very Low | it freezes on the 'saving tagcache' process | 2011-08-06 | aguzin | 2011-12-05
Task Description
Hi there! I'm having a huge problem with the rockbox boot on an iPod classic 5G. I've selected a number of option in the tagcache settings, such as 'load to ram', and after it readed all the files (30GB of music) ask me to reboot, and finally it freezes on the message 'saving tagcache' [1/9], responding only when i press menu+select for reboot. The same for the usb connection. I can't manipulate the files in any way!
Please excuse my limited English. Greetings from Argentina and congratulations for the fantastic project!

12240 | Patches | Codecs | Very Low | rbcodec refactoring part 1 | 2011-08-22 | Sean Bartell | 2011-08-28 | 6 |
Task Description
Continuing from FS#12204 , these patches remove some of the dependencies librbcodec has on the rest of Rockbox.
0001: puts equalizer settings in the parameters of dsp_set_eq_coefs, removing the need to access global_settings from dsp.c
0002: makes dsp_process yield each iteration instead of once each tick, which is tricky to do portably. If this is undesirable, I can work around it.
0003: moves some replaygain stuff around so dsp.c doesn't have to access global_settings.
0004: instead of dsp.c and tdspeed.c allocating buffers, buffers are allocated elsewhere and passed to dsp_timestretch_enable(). The necessary buffer size is determined by calling dsp_timestretch_get_buffer_size().
0005: replace get_audio_base_data_type() with audio_format_is_atomic(), removing a dependency on TYPE_PACKET_*.
0006: move autoresumable() to playback.c, removing another dependency on global_settings.

12347 | Bugs | User Interface | Very Low | unable to view filelist when renaming folder in iPod 5.... | 2011-10-24 | Chuck Kerry | 2013-05-02
Task Description
Hello, all There's a problem with viewing files in some circumstances in iPod 5.5G last 3.9 release.
When I: playing something in /Music/Artist/Track.flac, pause playback, connect USB cable. rename /Music/Artist to /Music/ArtistSOMETHING, then disconnect USB cable
I just cannot turn playback on ("~Do not exist" or something message appears, it's OK, I know), BUT when I trying to enter in "Files" menu - there's no reaction at all. Just nothing. I can't play of any other existing track or change to any directory without restarting device, or:
just go to Playlists → VIew catalog → select some playlist, then some music appears. But it's too long imho.
Is "it" bug or not?.. :)
Thanks, sorry for my english,
