Task Description
Hi there! I'm having a huge problem with the rockbox boot on an iPod classic 5G. I've selected a number of option in the tagcache settings, such as 'load to ram', and after it readed all the files (30GB of music) ask me to reboot, and finally it freezes on the message 'saving tagcache' [1/9], responding only when i press menu+select for reboot. The same for the usb connection. I can't manipulate the files in any way!
Please excuse my limited English. Greetings from Argentina and congratulations for the fantastic project!

Task Description
r31037 and later causes the device and sim to crash when resuming playback after leaving FM Radio. This crash has been reproduced on both e200v1 device and w32 sim and the e200v2 w32 sim. The failure is less likely to happen when there is a small number of files on the device/sim. (I have approximately 2200 files on the device and 5400 on the sim).
Tested with r30145
Steps to reproduce: 1. load the attached fms file (needs 35-Nimbus.fnt) 2. load an fm preset file - be sure to have station art 3. enter fm radio and select a preset station be sure art is displayed 4. power off device or sim 5. power on device or sim 6. start a playlist 7. stop playback 8. power off device or sim 9. power on device or sim 10. enter radio 11. exit radio 12. select resume playback 13. device or sim crashes
The e200v1 crash is: Data abort at 000095F0 (0)

Task Description
Attached is a patch that starts support for the sort tags specified in ID3 v2.4. It adds three new tags to the tagcache system, sortartist, sortalbum, and sorttitle which are drawn from the TSOA/TSOP/TSOT tags.
This is only the beginning and is very, very lightly tested (i.e. it compiles and doesn’t seem to break anything).

12398 | Patches | Plugins | Very Low | Give the random folder advance config a UI revamp | 2011-11-21 | Jonathan Gordon | 2011-11-21 | 1 |
Task Description
This uses the same code as FS#12330 but uses it for the random folder advance config plugin instead.
I've nuked the entire plugin so not everything is reimplemented yet but it currently works.
Two problems: 1) it uses the \t code in the lists which isnt great (indented lines which try to scroll don't quite work and it is not implemented for the skinned list yet) 2) It cant be used to select a whole sub tree, so if you have thousands of folders it will be very tedious to select them all.

11862 | Patches | User Interface | Very Low | Add a frequency response graph to the graphic equalizer... | 2011-01-06 | Attilio Scotolati | 2011-11-18 | 2 |
Task Description
This patch adds a frequency response graph below the equalizer's controls, making it an EQ that is actually "graphical".
I'm still not sure about the accuracy of the represented curve, in particular the Q factor on the peaking filters seems to have an effect opposite to the expected, though the equations are taken from the same "audio EQ cookbook" the equalizer is based on, any help is appreciated!
The user interface is still incomplete, I want to add proper tags on the axes and bars. I also thought about re-enabling the theme on this screen (why is it disabled?) and change the behavior of the "right" button, making it consistent with other menus.
Tested on a Sansa e200.

9775 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Premature and multiple storage_sleep() in buffering.c | 2009-01-10 | Boris Gjenero | 2011-11-11 | 1 |
Task Description
While examining disk performance with FS#9708 , I found one album where the disk stayed spinning with no activity for 5 s longer when using PIO. This is repeatable with that particular album. With the downloaded r19739-090109 build, this did not happen with the default settings but it started happening as soon as I enabled dircache. Prolonging the disk timeout prolongs the extra sleeping time.
Experimentation with shows that the storage_sleep() part of fill_buffer() (in apps/buffering.c) is executed early in the buffering and it is not executed at the end. With another album where spindown happens properly, ata_sleep() is called twice. Note that ata_sleep() just sets last_disk_activity, and sleep happens over half a second later if there is no disk activity during that period and last_user_activity has timed out.
I think this is a race condition based on how dircache and transfer rates change things. I wonder if it is related to FS#9541 .
The data mentioned is located at http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pkeRcfM0sg949P3a5EYXtew and the delayed spindown is seen in the EP7 PIO test. In that data, also note how sectors written are 5, 10 or 15, with differences between different tests with the same album.
I have a 30GB 5th generation iPod, but I expect this issue affects all SW-codec players.

11615 | Patches | Operating System/Drivers | Very Low | Dynamic screen size | 2010-09-07 | Maurus Cuelenaere | 2011-10-15 | 14 |
Task Description
This patch converts LCD_{WIDTH,HEIGHT} into variables, allowing Rockbox to change screen size at runtime.
I’ve tried to make the changes as less intrusive as possible, but still, there will be some binsize increases.
Most of the #if’s were converted to C if()’s which should be functionally equivalent (and if the compiler is smart enough, no increase in binsize should occur).
In order to use this, just define DYNAMIC_LCD_SIZE in your target config and compile without plugins (if the preprocessor spits errors, try clearing ENABLEDPLUGINS in your Makefile).
What still needs to be done: * figure a way out how to compile several rockbox logos into the binary and choose the correct one at runtime * do something about the hacks in apps/bitmaps/SOURCES and apps/settings_list.c * get the Android port working

12334 | Patches | Utils | Very Low | Update to my tools/talkclips.py script | 2011-10-15 | Daniel Dalton | 2011-10-15 | 2 |
Task Description
Update to my tools/talkclips.py script. Minor updates which include: - Better handling of logfile eg. we don't leave it open as was the case before - Report a few more details in the log eg. start/end time, duration, and number of talk clips created. This is useful to dettect how many files had problems… - Summarise output for user at end, of processing, number of talkclips created and how long this took (in seconds). - Report to user how many talk clips will need to be created to give them an indication of potential waiting time etc. This is calculated by first determining how many files are on the device excluding .talk files, and how many .talk files there are, and calculating the difference. - This information allows a percentage indication to be drawn throughout the script, so now the user can track the percentage as processing takes place.
Patch is attached.
Thanks.

this also uses a half done patch to make lists handle indenting, not done for the skin list but if this is actually wanted that can be easily added

On build 30622 and previous builds, there is an issue with resuming playback.
When "Resume Playback" is selected from the menu, you transition into the music control screen but there is no output aside from some crackling noises.

The play/pause button during this situation shows a pause symbol which suggests that the song is supposed to play. However, the song progress bar remains at 0:00.

9954 | Bugs | Remote | Very Low | iAudio X5L remote erratic starting with build from 2009... | 2009-02-25 | Chris Miller | 2011-09-28 | 2 |
Task Description
I have been using Rockbox for almost 2 years now on my X5L together with the remote and I have frequently updated to the current version, so I am familiar with how it works.
I have noticed that after updating to version 20090221, my X5’s remote’s LCD behaves erratically (strange lines being displayed all over, vertically shaky image) right after booting Rockbox, then the display turns off completely after a few seconds. Strangely though, the controls still work and the blue display light comes on when working the controls, but the display is turned off (there is nothing being displayed, as if the player were turned off). If I unplug and reconnect the remote, the remote’s LCD comes on, but soon turns off again. The X5’s main LCD is working just fine.
I thought that my remote was dying on me, but decided to check if it was somehow related to the development of Rockbox. I reverted back one build after another and found that the last build that works OK for my remote is 20090210. So, in all the builds starting with 20090211 (I have thoroughly checked all from 20090211 to 20090225), the remote is practically unusable. I looked at the changes done on that day (http://www.rockbox.org/daily/changelogs/changes-20090211.html), but could not single out the probable cause.
Great software, anyway!

Task Description
The patch adds two new WPS tags:
1. %Ln yields the number of the list item currently being drawn
2. The operator "/?" (which can be used in the %if tag) yields the string "div" if the first operant is divisible by the second and NULL otherwise.
With these two additions it should be possible to create themes where list items are coloured alternately (as an example).
The whole work has been done by gevaerts on 2011-09-12 (and all the credits also go to him), I only placed the patch to the patch tracker, changed the operator from "/" to "/?", and changed the function name from "skinlist_get_item" to "skinlist_get_item_number".
He posted the patch on the binpaste and it would be pity if it got lost.

11891 | Patches | Codecs | Very Low | Add mp3 gap skipping support to improve gapless playbac... | 2011-01-18 | Andrew Tefft | 2011-09-02 | 1 |
Task Description
As we know, rockbox will use the information provided by "good" mp3 encoders (e.g. LAME) to ignore the extra padding that occurs at the beginning and end of each mp3 file, so that true gapless playback can occur. Unfortunately we do not always have the luxury of encoding our mp3 files in this way but we might still want true gapless playback. This patch compensates for the use of "dumb" mp3 encoders that do not record the necessary information for this feature.
In cases where it does not detect the proper header information to trim off the extra padding, it will optionally skip up to a full frame of silence (or near silence) at the beginning and end of each track (if the trimming is already specified, this patch does not do any additional trimming).
This can potentially eliminate up to a frame of "real" silence at the beginning or end of a track, but in terms of audibility, that would be completely unnoticeable (and it would only happen on these badly-encoded tracks), while the extra silence is an audible annoyance.
I have added an option to the Playback Settings menu so that the user can disable it if desired.

12189 | Patches | Codecs | Very Low | Simplify the codec API and don't always loop MODs. | 2011-07-11 | Sean Bartell | 2011-08-31 | 3 |
Task Description
This patch makes some changes to codec_api to help remove dependencies for my project.
The unused strcasestr callback is removed.
The global_settings pointer was being used by several codecs to check whether REPEAT_ONE mode is on; this has been replaced with a callback "should_loop()".
The MOD codec has been modified not to restart the file when it reaches the end. This does not affect MOD files that use "position jump" to loop part of the song. Ideally the MOD codec would only follow such loops if should_loop() returns 1, but detecting loops is nontrivial.

12236 | Bugs | User Interface | Very Low | Cover art does not change when using playlist | 2011-08-20 | Jeff Robinson | 2011-08-29
Task Description
After upgrading my 1st generation iPod Nano from Rockbox 3.6 to 3.9 the cover art display does not seem to be working consistently.
When using a playlist the first track will always show the correct cover art, but any tracks after that will continue to show the first track's cover. This also happens if I skip forward or backward between tracks in the playlist.
If I manually select a file to play the correct cover will show, and if I manually select another track during the play-back of the first the cover art will change to the new track.
I have also tried this with current build r30334 (2011-08-20T13:14:30) with the same results.

this patch, that takes some of the FS10494, improves dock detection and initialization.
It should correct the erratic behaviour on some hardware, and it also adds support for some remote buttons: menu, select, up_arrow and down_arrow.
The buttons arrow are not usable by now, even if they are defined. I tried severals things but i couldn't get it to work.
Any idea of which context I should use to use the button arrow to scroll through the main menu?

12240 | Patches | Codecs | Very Low | rbcodec refactoring part 1 | 2011-08-22 | Sean Bartell | 2011-08-28 | 6 |
Task Description
Continuing from FS#12204 , these patches remove some of the dependencies librbcodec has on the rest of Rockbox.
0001: puts equalizer settings in the parameters of dsp_set_eq_coefs, removing the need to access global_settings from dsp.c
0002: makes dsp_process yield each iteration instead of once each tick, which is tricky to do portably. If this is undesirable, I can work around it.
0003: moves some replaygain stuff around so dsp.c doesn't have to access global_settings.
0004: instead of dsp.c and tdspeed.c allocating buffers, buffers are allocated elsewhere and passed to dsp_timestretch_enable(). The necessary buffer size is determined by calling dsp_timestretch_get_buffer_size().
0005: replace get_audio_base_data_type() with audio_format_is_atomic(), removing a dependency on TYPE_PACKET_*.
0006: move autoresumable() to playback.c, removing another dependency on global_settings.

11962 | Bugs | Operating System/Drivers | Very Low | Player and Filetransfer freeze during USB file transfer | 2011-02-23 | not relevant | 2011-08-18
Task Description
The interface of my Sansa Fuze and the file transfer freeze randomly when transferring large amounts of data. If the player runs in Bootloader USB mode everything is fine.
I guess this could break the vfat file system, making this a nasty bug. Disabling Key and Mouseemulation did not help. As long as this isn't fixed, a solution would be to start the player in Bootloader USB mode by default. I don't know if this is possible though, since I don't know the the technical details of rockbox very well.
Beside that everything works just great, keep up the good word!
PS.: I'm using Debian with different kernels. I couldn't see any differences between different kernel versions regarding this issue. Intels Linux USB drivers and the Linux USB stack in general usually work excellent as far as I know, therefore I would blame it on rockbox (no offense :)).

11639 | Patches | Themes | Very Low | Android port: add theme downloader activity | 2010-09-22 | Maurus Cuelenaere | 2011-08-15 | 3 |
Task Description
This patch introduces 2 new activities, one which lists available themes for a specified target and another which lists more details and the option to install the specific theme. Currently this is more a proof-of-concept, as the communication with the theme server is handled by the same API RBUtil uses, which isn't perfect for the intended usage (e.g. offers no possibility to filter by screen size, only uses INI as output format, ..).
(this also includes some minor unrelated changes to the main Rockbox extraction functionality which won't be in the final patch)
TODO: - make translatable - better UI - uninstall/update functionality - show only themes fit for the displays' resolution - use different protocol to communicate with theme server to get rid of iniparser dependency (XML, JSON, .. ?)

12047 | Bugs | User Interface | Very Low | WPS on startup doesn't work on iPod Video | 2011-04-06 | Ophir Lojkine | 2011-08-15 | 1 |
Task Description
On my iPod video, when I choose to load the WPS on startup (either in the Settings menu or in the alarm menu), it doesn't work. The player stays on the main (root?) screen.
I had to tweak root_menu.c (which I join) to get the alarm to work with the WPS. This is not a patch, but a quick and dirty workaround that I did just to be waked up on time tomorrow…

12006 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Android: OGG, SPX, MP3 playback problem | 2011-03-12 | Tuomas Airaksinen | 2011-08-12
Task Description
I’m using revision 29572 of android port. Host system is Samsung Galaxy 3 i5800, with 240×400 resolution display, with version 2.2 (Froyo) of Android.
The problem is as follows. When trying to start playback of OGG or SPX files, the playback does not start occasionally (the change is maybe less than 20% to have playback). By rewinding randomly it is possible to get it start playback. The same behaviour occurs when starting from bookmarks and from file explorer. The problem occurs with default config file.
Tried with MP3 and had the same problem. The problem may be with other codecs as well but I have not tried it so extensively.

12054 | Patches | Database | Very Low | Highlight each album's last-played track in database vi... | 2011-04-07 | sideral | 2011-08-09 | 3 |
Task Description
The attached proof-of-concept patch highlights (places the cursor at) each album's last-played track in database views. The intention is to allow easy resuming of multi-track audiobooks or podcasts where they were last left off. This works best when autoresume has also been enabled.
The patch relies on runtime statistics gathering being enabled (and the DB needs to be enables as well, of course).
The current patch has some caveats that I plan to address in future revisions:
Right now, it's unconditionally enabled for all database-based track views. We might consider allowing to turn this off for regular music albums.
When the last-played track has been completed (played through to its end), we should actually highlight the next track (or the first track if the last-played track was the final track of the album). [EDIT: fixed – see latest patch in comments section]
It would be great if a similar feature was available for the file browser. I'd find it acceptable if that would require the DB as well (as that's the place where the last-played info is stored). It could benefit from an add-to-DB-as-files-are-played feature (aka FS#12073).
Comments?
[EDIT: Clarified summary. Fixed a rather severe bug in the patch to make it actually work. :) ] [ EDIT 2: Linked to FS#12073. Addressed one caveat. ]

12076 | Bugs | Database | Very Low | Autoresume feature can start from wrong offset due to r... | 2011-04-19 | Rob Walker | 2011-08-08 | 2 |
Task Description
I've found a problem with the new autoresume feature in 3.8. I use it when listening to podcasts and sometimes find that it resumes from near the end of a new episode - e.g. on a 30 minute podcast it will resume from 28 or 29 minutes - usually about the place where a previous epidsode finished and I skipped past the end credits.
What I think is happening is that there is some code in the database that tries to resurrect the runtime statistics for files that have been deleted and then restored - as the last offset is in this data, it is reusing the last offset from an old episode.
I've put some more logf()s in tagcache.c in build_numeric_indices(). I can see that if the filenames don't match (line 2306) it then tries to match any 2 tags out of the 3: artist, album or title. For the podcasts, the artist and album are always the same (i.e. the producer and which one of their podcasts it is), but the title is different (i.e. "Episode 100", "Episode 101", etc). So if I've listened to Episode 100 and then deleted the file, and then add Episode 102 to the player, it matches the artist and album and so resurrects the wrong data from Episode 100.
I've disabled the resurrection based on tags (just commented it out) and the problem seems to have gone away. A better fix would be to ensure that all 3 tags or matched or to ensure that title is one of the matched tags
