482 | Feature Requests | Music playback | Very Low | "Single" playmode | 2002-10-27 | | 2020-05-24
Task Description
HI, is there a way that you could add a “Single” playmode, so it stops after playing one song, instead of repeating all, or repeating single? That way, it could also be used as an “auto-off”, where it shuts off after one song. Also, and maybe this isnt possible, but you could have an option to play X number of songs and then stop, where the X is configurable.

13161 | Bugs | FM Tuner | Very Low | iPod FM Remote not working | 2018-07-29 | Henk | 2018-07-29
Task Description
I have an iPod 4G Grayscale (model A1059) running Rockbox 3.14 with an Apple FM remote (model A1187). The remote part works ok (Play/Select and Fwd/Rev buttons work - volume control is separate due to it being connected to the line out, but works).
However, the radio menu does not show up in the main menu when connected. Not when I boot with the remote connected, not when I connect it after booting, and not if I go to a different menu and then back.
In the debugging menu, it simply says that the FM tuner hardware is not found.
I am sure that this used to work at some point. Are there known regressions?

Task Description
Hi,
I have installed Rockbox build 0F89B04-160628 using this (https://files.freemyipod.org/~user890104/bootloader-ipodclassic.html) method.
I have created a dynamic playlist (Database > long select artist > current playlist > Queue Shuffled). Play and then pause the music and then hold the play button down to shutdown rockbox. Plug in USB cable from your computer (Win10) in to the iPod and the iPod should start powering on and then a white *panic* screen should appear.
Workaround is to have Rockbox already fully booted before plugging in a USB cable from the computer.

Task Description
I'm having a shutdown issue after using my 6G ipod Classic in the car. After I have turned off the car the ipod will automatically enter a paused state but when i either hold play to shutdown or wait for the idle shutdown it will hang showing the shutting down… text and never turn off. when I manually shutdown the ipod (hold play button) down after using the ipod in the car you can hear the HD spin up and after 4-5 second hear the HD park (click) but still feel the ipod vibrating like the HD is still spinning, the text shutting down… is shown and just stays there and drains the battery. the only way to shut it down it hold menu and select.
In car is a Dension gateway G300 (ipod is connected and controlled with a dock cable, can use car controls to change tracks on ipod apple firmware and rockbox) I'm currently using using build adaba2b-160820 Installed and tested with both the beta and stable installers from https://files.freemyipod.org/~user890104/bootloader-ipodclassic.html

12827 | Bugs | Manual | Very Low | Rockbox Utility cannot generate voice files when instal... | 2013-02-15 | A. Lester Buck III | 2013-02-15
Task Description
This is basically a documentation update. For several years I generated accessibility voice files on my devices. Then one day I was reinstalling and it would generate a lot of the voice files but die from a weird error. For more than six months I combed the manual and the forums, trying to figure out what had changed, trying to debug it myself. Eventually I stumbled across the problem. I had noticed the “install on player” option in Rockbox Utility and started generating voice files while running from the player. Once I switched back to running Rockbox Utility by launching the utility from my regular PC disk, everything worked again. I again looked for any warning about this in the manual, and didn’t find anything.
The simplest fix is to include something about this in the section on accessibility and generating voice files.
Another fix, probably not worth it, would be for the voice files to use system tmp space for intermediate files. I suspect that the recursive generation of talk files on player ends up in some infinite regression as it generates talk files for temporary files.
This probably happens on all players, but I only experienced it on the iPod Nano 1st Gen.

11388 | Patches | Playlists | Very Low | Bookmark file doesn't work for a directory with a semic... | 2010-06-09 | Aaron Wells | 2010-07-09 | 1 |
Task Description
Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a directory: /AUDIO;BOOKS 2. Place a file in it: /AUDIO;BOOKS/file.mp3 3. Start playing the file, and then create a bookmark 4. Do “List bookmarks” for the file 5. The bookmark menu lists something like this:
BOOKS/;file 0:02, 2, Shuffle
The problem seems to be that .bmark files use semicolons to separate the fields of information. If there’s a semicolon in the path, it thinks that it indicates the end of the path and the beginning of the filename.

Task Description
I use the attached custom WPS that displays the active Replaygain value and type next to the track number.
When playing mpc files created by foobar2000 with the tracknumber/totaltracks tag format, if the track# is 10 or higher and the applied gain negative (as in the attached mpc), mangled characters are displayed between the gain value and type, eg:
10/12 -2.00 dB *gibberish* (Album)
This is reproducible with the latest simulator build d0fffd6-150104 but I only recently noticed the issue and don't know when it began. I have an old sim build 935d8be-121229 and it works correctly there.

Task Description
EQ settings changed via Touchscreen WPS action setting_inc & setting_dec are not reflected in the sound output of the device even though they display having been changed in the menus. The changes are also not written to the main config file on disk so they do not "stick" after Rockbox has been rebooted.
example syntax to toggle EQ on/off (display DOES get toggled): %T(148,520,54,46,setting_dec,eq enabled) %T(148,520,54,46,&setting_inc,eq enabled) %xl(E,eq.bmp,0,0) %V(148,520,54,46,-) %?St(eq enabled)<%xd(E)|>
I'm not sure if this problem is specific to Android or if the problem applies to all targets. APK Build: Feb 4, 2011

Hi there! I'm having a huge problem with the rockbox boot on an iPod classic 5G. I've selected a number of option in the tagcache settings, such as 'load to ram', and after it readed all the files (30GB of music) ask me to reboot, and finally it freezes on the message 'saving tagcache' [1/9], responding only when i press menu+select for reboot. The same for the usb connection. I can't manipulate the files in any way!
Please excuse my limited English. Greetings from Argentina and congratulations for the fantastic project!

10280 | Patches | Configuration | Very Low | Initial work on the Samsung YP-P2 port | 2009-06-05 | Alain Trinh | 2010-08-19 | 6 |
Task Description
Hello, here's my current contribution to the Rockbox project: initial work on a port to the Samsung YP-P2. Right now, it's mostly just copied from the Cowon D2 port, but with some changes to reflect the P2's different LCD.
The LCD shows the picture undistorted, but it seems that the G channel is too strong. Perhaps this is due to the LCD being set to rgb666 mode, so it expects 6 bits from R and B, while Rockbox only gives 5 bits? I tried setting the LCD to rgb565 mode, but that only distorted the colors even more. In any case, suggestion for a fix would be great.

12614 | Bugs | Database | Very Low | Bug while seeking on Sansaclip+ | 2012-03-13 | Alan | 2012-05-09
Task Description
Hi, firstly i put Sansa c200 because SansaClip+ is not available in the list. My player is a Sandisk SansaClip+ bought 6 months ago with an 8Gb class 4 Sandisk microsd (that is currently empty, no songs stored).
Steps to reproduce the issue (after a fresh installation of the Firmware, no settings changed):
1) Switch on 2) → database 3) → track 4) select any track 5) press the central button 6) Erase Dynamic Playlist? is displayed.. Select Yes 7) countdown then starts to play 8) Seek to the next song (it happens at the first seek or might need three, four one after the other)
Data abort at 30813E44 FSR 0x8 (domani 0, fault 8) address 0x62E90028
- I installed version 3.10 on top of version 3.09, but later on I tried to uninstall completely 3.10 and reinstall it from scratch and the issue is the same.
- After the crash i have to keep the "switchoff" button pressed for a while.. then I press it again to restart the player and I try to resume the song I get "playlist control file is invalid" or "nothing to resume"
- behavior is the same with or without the SD card
- The issue was randomly happening (but very very rarely) also on the previous version of the firmware (3.09) I got the error a couple of times in 6 months.

12568 | Patches | Configuration | Very Low | iPod Classic - limit volume to +6db | 2012-01-29 | Albert Barca | 2012-02-13 | 4 |
Task Description
The iPod Classic Cirrus CS42L55 DAC+amp chip is specified to output audio up to +12dB versus the reference level (0.775V RMS) and the current Rockbox driver implements this accordingly (note that the OF limits the amplification to a lower level).
However, any amplification above +3dB applied to a 0dB signal results in serious clipping errors, the sound being distorted (oscilloscope measurements attached). This is not a surprise, given that +12dB translates in over 8V peak-to-peak output, way above what the iPod is capable of with its 3.7V battery.
Distortions aside, +12dB can be overkill for most of the earphones (depending on the sensitivity) and not a very pleasant experience. If you put the iPod in your pocket and forget to lock it you may experience this frequently.
In practice not all tracks have peaks reaching the 0dB level (actually nowadays this is quite common given the "loudness war"). To provide some room for additional amplification when needed, I found the +6dB limit to be a good compromise.

12678 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Unable to play WMA Pro (possibly VBR) | 2012-05-18 | Albert Meltzer | 2012-05-20 | 1 |
Task Description
The player (Sansa Clip Zip) appears to refuse or unable to play some of my WMA tracks; as far as I can tell, the problem is specific to my WMA Pro files only as it plays none of them (but works with WMA2 successfully). I have attached one of the examples.
I understand that a similar issue was reported recently (in FS#12619 ) although, in my case, the player doesn’t start playing and skips to the next immediately, rather than playing part of the track.

I am trying to build Rockbox for Sony NWZ-380 from Git repo, commit ce0b31d87db3c4c1c1bfb535c50770d33e9c4aaf. arm-elf-eabi-gcc version 5.4.0, ARM binutils 2.30. Everything goes smooth until just the latest step where this happens:
… LD duke3d.ovl LD bmp.ovl LD jpeg.ovl LD png.ovl LD ppm.ovl LD gif.ovl LD rockbox.elf /usr/libexec/gcc/arm-elf-eabi/ld: section .ARM.exidx VMA [00000000600a9548,00000000600a954f] overlaps section .bss VMA [00000000600a7f20,00000000600ff773]
I'm using Rockbox on my NWZ-384 for a couple of years now and there were no problems building it in the past. I also was very glad that NWZ-380 port reached stable status in 3.14, but now something seems to be broken (not terrible it seems, just requires some adjustments to the linker scripts but still).

13059 | Bugs | Codecs | Very Low | MP3 Codec decoding has artifacts | 2015-10-22 | Alex | 2015-10-22 | 2 |
Task Description
When playing music, I can hear codec errors in the music. It occurs every time on a certain song, and other songs that are smaller in file size, it does not occur on, but occurs on the next one. I believe it is a buffering issue, and makes the music unlistenable. I used the daily on 10/21/2015
On 320kb/s MP3s it occurs much more often, and 128kb/s MP3s it occurs less often, but when it occurs its a series of glitches that distort the music.
I am sure its not the MP3s themselves, because it doesn't occur in the official firmware, and when I rewind it, it does not make the same sound until later. It has a very prominent 'glitchy' sound and later it changes the speed of the song.
I replaced it with the 3.1.3 MP3 codec, and the same glitch occurs.
I do not have a line out so its made through the speaker, but the problem is so bad that you can hear it very clearly.
The MP3 was 320kb/s
Memo is the glitchy one, and Memo-1 is it being played correctly.

Task Description
Been using Rockbox for years, so it was really obvious when things got messed up somewhere in 3.12~3.13. In a nutshell, with this release, in a 1000+ playlist, I’m listening to the same songs over and over again when shuffle is on. To fix the issue, I have to turn shuffle OFF and then flip it back to ON every time I start a player. Never had this problem before. Don’t know if this affects all devices or just my H340 (yes! still going strong!).

10614 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | Deleting files in USB mode can confuse resume playback/... | 2009-09-23 | Alex Bennee | 2010-04-09
Task Description
Steps to reproduce:
1. Start listening to a series of podcasts, say 1-5 2. After listening to >1 plug player into computer during playback of subsequent podcast 3. Delete the podcasts you have already listened to (not what your currently listening to) 4. Eject/Unplug player from computer 5. Attempt to resume playback
This fails for both resume and Recent Bookmarks functionality. I assume this is somehow tied in with playlist support as files from the playlist have been deleted.
Where does Recent Bookmarks keep it's information? Should the bookmark also keep the individual file referenced so it can resume in this case?
Tested on R21184M-090604
Will test on latest version once my main machine is back on internet.

7718 | Patches | Plugins | Very Low | New Game/Plugin - Play Go and Pente (for 2 players) | 2007-09-06 | Alex dos Santos | 2009-02-16 | 4 |
Task Description
Hello,
This plugin is a game to be played in two. I like to play go and pente and so is my wife (at least she plays pente) so I wrote this plugin.
I think the code is clear enough. I also used all the #ifdef that I knew.. so, I believe it wouldn’t break any compilation.
The plugin was tested on IPOD 5G (VIDEO) and works just fine. I also compiled it to a few more players without any problem. I did not try to compile it for players that don’t have the lcd_update() function. It won’t work (at least this first version).
The board size in the LCD is based on WIDTH, since Sansa has width smaller than height you will lose part of the board (horizontally). I just tested the code in sansa using the Simulator…
It is easy to fix and I will, but I’ll be traveling for a week (that’s why I wrote it, so I could play it while I wait in the airport/plane…) When I came back I will fix it.
Meanwhile, you guys can patch it or use it. Feedbacks are also welcome.
Current Features: - Save / Load games - Pente / Go (Board 9×9, 13×13 and 19×19) - Remove groups / stones automatically when they are dead
I attached the code and the “executable” for IPOD 5G (Video)
Enjoy! Alex

Keymap changes are for Sansa C200 only. Check apps/keymaps/keymap-<you-target>.c and add necessary lines to button_context_{standard,wps} if you use different device.

Rockbox port of XAttax (which is in turn X port of some ancient arcade game). It’s a strategy game similar to Reversi, played agains AI opponent.
The rules should be obvious once you run it. You can place new stone next to you own stones, or you can move already placed stone over a cell. Moved or newly places stone changes color of all adjacent stones. The player who has more stones at the end wins.
To install, apply patch and unpack tar’ed sources. It should build successfuly on all LCD-based targets; please report in case build fails for your particular device so I could fix it.

Task Description
Hello! Not very long ago I got iPod Nano 2 gen 8gb, installed rockbox and encountered this strange behavior:
After pushing and releasing Hold button player doesn't react on wheel. When I'm trying to use some other button(Menu, for example), nothing happens. After third attempt to use a button Rockbox does button context properly, showing me what I wanted to see a few clicks ago. What happens with interface after using Hold? When I return to 'Now playing' screen throughout Menu, all works fine. But right after using Hold button I can't nor increase/decrease volume, neither move in a menu list.

9356 | Patches | Applications | Very Low | Allow to set the delay before button repeat is activate... | 2008-09-02 | Alexander Levin | 2008-09-03 | 1 |
Task Description
The patch allows to set the delay after which the button repeat event is generated. Since this event is used to detect a long button press, it effectively sets this 'threshold.'
Slow fingered users may often hold the select button too long and (unintentionally) get the context menu. For instance, from the WPS screen. But they actually wanted to go to the file browser.
The patch adds a setting for that delay. Its default value is 30 ticks (=0.3s). The menu entry is in Settings → General Settings → System → Long Button Press Duration.

5757 | Patches | Drivers | Very Low | Correctly display short DOS file names in file browser | 2006-08-01 | Alexander Levin | 2006-08-05 | 3 |
Task Description
This is a sequel for FS#5736 . It correctly displays the OEM-encoded short DOS file names.
Following code pages are supported: cp850 (western Europe), cp852 (central Europe), cp737 (greek), cp866 (cyriliic), cp862 (hebrew).
If you change the default code page (in the settings menu) and there are files that are displayed with the short DOS names, you’d better rebuild the dir cache (if it’s activated) since the UTF8-name of the file changes.
When I compile the modified sources, I get the following warning which I don’t understand: CC common/unicode.c common/unicode.c:136: warning: function declaration isn’t a prototype
Could anyone tell me what that means and what the reason is?

10181 | Patches | FM Tuner | Very Low | Allow the FM region to be set from a FMR file | 2009-05-01 | Alexander Levin | 2009-05-14 | 2 |
Task Description
Since FM stations list may require that the FM region is set to a certain value, it would be good if the FM region could be set along with the station list. The patch does just that.
The region is set by putting the line “region:N” into the FMR file (at any line there). N can be one of the values allowed for the fm_region setting.
The patch does not work on the simulators for e200 and h120 (the only two I tried) because, for some reason, the symbol HAVE_RADIO_REGION is not defined for them. Could anybody tell why?
Saving the region along with the station list is not implemented.

Screenshots in the manual are nested into a 'figure' environment, but the only purpose of this is to be able to have a caption. The floating feature of 'figure' by using the placement attribute 'H' (='Here!').

Placement attribute for figures is set back to the LaTeX default so that figures can really float should we need it.

The location for recordings can be set, but the only way to see the current value for the setting is to look into the config file. The patch adds a note stating that to the manual.
Also, there is a known bug ( FS#12517 , FS#12500 ) preventing saving the recorded files in the root directory (maybe this applies only to some targets, not all). The patch adds a warning about that.

Task Description
As of r19940, the lamp plugin is quit by pressing any key besides some which have a function in that plugin (or so is the intention –see bug report FS#9877 ).
This patch changes the plugin so that it’s left with a special button only. The patch also adds key definitions for some players that haven’t been included before (players without color LCD). Key mappings were taken from the patch in FS#8934.
Essentially, this patch implements an atomic part of that patch.
Also, correct handling of USB has been added.
This is in preparation of a (separate) patch for toggling the light on and off without leaving the plugin.

Key mappings were taken from FS#8934.

Task Description
Today I've experience something which IMO should not happen.
I recorded vian the built in micro on my Sansa e200 v1, paused the recording (not stopped!). In this state, I plugged USB cable. After that, there was the following text in the system font on the display, and the player did not respond to any keys. It had to be restarted via very long pressing at On/Off.
The text is:
*PANIC*
usb_storage_init_connection (): 00M pc:0006B878 sp:000D3538
A: 00069978
A: 00069F80
A: 0005326C
bt end
I've reproduced this three time in a row.
I have the official version 3.14 installed.

Task Description
Seen with r27199 on the e200 simulator.
If I place a .wps file in the root directory and “play” it from the file browser, the WPS is not loaded. I’d expect it to load but not to be saved as the setting.
The same file is loaded if it’s in the directory /.rockbox/wps, i.e. it’s not the wrong file contents that’s causing the error.

I modified the function “sim_open” to ouput what files it’s opening, and got the following output (see attached text file). Note that there are files “-.kbd”, “-.sbs” and “-.rsbs”. I think these files should not be opened, even tried.

12277 | Patches | Themes | Very Low | WPS tags for the list item number and the "divisible" o... | 2011-09-13 | Alexander Levin | 2011-09-18 | 2 |
Task Description
The patch adds two new WPS tags:
1. %Ln yields the number of the list item currently being drawn
2. The operator "/?" (which can be used in the %if tag) yields the string "div" if the first operant is divisible by the second and NULL otherwise.
With these two additions it should be possible to create themes where list items are coloured alternately (as an example).
The whole work has been done by gevaerts on 2011-09-12 (and all the credits also go to him), I only placed the patch to the patch tracker, changed the operator from "/" to "/?", and changed the function name from "skinlist_get_item" to "skinlist_get_item_number".
He posted the patch on the binpaste and it would be pity if it got lost.

10440 | Patches | User Interface | Very Low | Add the possibility to toggle the pitch changing mode i... | 2009-07-15 | Alexander Levin | 2009-07-17 | 2 |
Task Description
As of r21894, the pitch changing mode (in the pitch screen) can only be toggled (cycled through) in one direction. However it would be handy to be able to cycle in the other direction to change procentual vs. semitone while still staying in the time stretch mode. This patch adds such a possibility.
The key mappings is only defined for H1xx and H3xx (as a long press of Mode). Please add keys for other platfroms.

8934 | Patches | Plugins | Very Low | Colourful flashlight/lamp | 2008-04-25 | Alexander Papst | 2010-01-01 | 14 |
Task Description
After reading the irc log shortly after the flashlight plugin was committed i noticed that some want the ability back to finetune the colour of the display. This time i’ve added a fixed point version of the hsv_to_lcd version (thanks to amiconn) and added some more predefined colours. You can “skip” forwards or backwards to the nearest predefined colour (however, it’s probably not the nicest way of doing it i guess).
I’ve also implemented another request to switch the backlight on and off (even for non colour targets) and it now uses the remote backlight too.
Controls: Targets with a 4 button cross: Up/Down: fine tune Left/Right: jump to next predefined colours (including white) Select: switch backlight on and off
Targets with scroll wheel: Scroll left/right: fine tune Left/right or fwd/rew: jump to next predefined colours (including white) Select: switch backlight on and off
I’ve tried to guess the most intuitive button layout on all targets and even use the remote buttons. However i only own a small number of targets so if you think it can be done better let me know.
Tested on iPod Video, Mini (sim), H300 (sim) and m:robe 100.

12958 | Bugs | Music playback | Very Low | data abort crash when toggling crossfeed from quickscre... | 2014-03-06 | alexbobp | 2014-03-18
Task Description
Using release 3.13 on the clip zip, if I were to put the main crossfeed setting on the right button of the quickscreen, it would cycle through to custom but then stop. If I use the left button of the quickscreen, then after custom there is a data abort crash.
Using build c64b59f-140304, both the left and right quickscreen buttons work to cycle through all 3 settings for crossfeed, but I can still trigger the crash if I use the left button. It seems to be sporadic and timing dependent, because if I click through the options quickly it works fine, but if I slow down and hold the buttons for longer at a time then it will eventually trigger.
Here is a picture of the crash: http://i.imgur.com/wS1CqVr.jpg The text is: Data abort at 30800E FSR 0x8 (domain 0, fault 8) address 0xB00Fb5D pc:30800BA8 sp:300<snip> the screen is too narrow, here bt end

12955 | Bugs | Operating System/Drivers | Very Low | Rockbox daily not turning off once notebook is shut dow... | 2014-02-28 | Ali Akcaagac | 2014-03-01
Task Description
Hello
I run rockbox daily (last update 27 Feb 2014) and found an issue that I like to report. I have my sandisk clip zip connected to an external USB hub, which is connected to my notebook. Today I left the sandisk clip zip connected and turned the notebook off. I expected that the player will disconnect from the USB hub → blanks the screen after 20-30 seconds (depending on the setup) and then turns off after a while (depending on the setup). Unfortunately the last step won't happen.
The sandisk clip zip really disconnected from the USB connection (the usb picture disappears from the display) with the notebook going back into the rockbox menu (Play, Radio, Settings, Recording etc.) and after a while also blanks the screen as expected.
Unfortunately it does NOT turn itself off as it would if you leave it entirely unconnected (unwired) with the USB. The sandisk clip zip starts to turn the screen on again after a while, turns off again, turns on again after a while, turns off etc.
I had to plug off the mini USB connection (the wiring between the player and the usb hub) so it turns off and shuts down after a while.
What I believe is, that the USB subroutines might not know the difference between powered on notebook and powered off notebook. It only knows that it's wired and thus tries to turn the player on again after it blanks. It should really be possible to keep the player connected (and wired) when the notebook shuts down and have the player shut down as well (after blanking and then turning itself off).
Could this be reviewed and maybe worked on ?
Thanks so far.

Alarm wakeup doesn’t work reliably. It is unclear whether the setup is wrong or the wake up is. It might be that the player wakes up before time because of a small press on the power button and thus somehow forgets about alarm.
