I've hunted this down here is what I found out.

from
http://developer.android.com/reference/android/view/KeyEvent.Callback.html

public abstract boolean onKeyDown (int keyCode, KeyEvent event)
Since: API Level 1

Called when a key down event has occurred. If you return true, you can first call KeyEvent.startTracking() to have the framework track the event through its onKeyUp(int, KeyEvent) and also call your onKeyLongPress(int, KeyEvent) if it occurs.

We need to return true and call KeyEvent.startTracking() from /android/src/org/rockbox/RockboxFramebuffer.java then set the interrupt flag from /firmware/target/hosted/button-android.c and find out what is passed back after a key release and handle that. I may not be a great programmer but this looks like the ticket to removing the BUTTON_REL work around from /firmware/target/hosted/android/app/button-application.c

12184BugsOperating System/DriversVery LowFuze V1 locking when transferring files Rockbox 3.92011-07-09Kent Williams442013-11-161 Task Description

This is a post that another user put in the forums that pretty much describes the problems I'm having exactly:

" I have a v1 sansa fuze and been using rockbox since 3.8.1 first came out.I just upgraded to 3.9,did not mess with a-n-y setting at all,pc is windows vista (latest sp).Whenever i drag and drop folders with mp3s in them(be it 58 mb or 300 mb or 600 mb) it starts to copy but halfway through, the process just freezes, clicking cancel freezes the windows explorer for 10 seconds then cancels it.Even worse, when i go check out my sansa fuze at my computer,it's recognized but when i click on it,shows as empty!? so i disconnect safely, theeeen….device needs a hard reset. So i say ok this has happened once or twice before but guess what? it happened again…5 TIMES each on 3 different usb ports.Uninstalled rockbox, went back to official firmware and it's all normal…

So i changed the screen to be always on during plugged in and this is the error i get

data abort at 30054264
FSR 0x8

I am running Windows 7 64-bit and experiencing the same issues. If the player doesn't lock outright, it gives the same error white screen described above. This seems to happen more frequently when copying folders that contain folders themselves, but I've had the problem occur on copying just one folder with no subfolders.

Whenever the HOLD switch is turned off, the hold icon in rockbox disappears, but hold actually doesn’t let go. I can’t use any keys until scroling is used. Scrolling left or right is the only thing that actually switches off hold. It can be pretty annoying as I use HOLD a lot.

9942BugsUser InterfaceVery Low"First Keypress Enables Backlight Only" broken on 5G an...2009-02-22Boris Gjenero352009-02-242 Task Description

“First Keypress Enables Backlight Only” doesn’t work on the 5G iPod. For example, if that’s enabled, the backlight is off and I press next track while at the WPS, Rockbox will go to the next track.

It seems like clickwheel event(s) generated when I touch the wheel turn on the backlight. When the button is pressed, the backlight is already considered to be on and the button press performs its usual action. If I carefully hold my finger still on the clickwheel, let the backlight fade, and then carefully press a button without moving my finger on the clickwheel, I am able to turn on the backlight without causing anything else to happen.

I don’t know what to do about this. Requiring a physical button press might be annoying. Removing this option on affected targets might be okay, because it’s easy to turn on the backlight by touching the clickwheel (and that doesn’t seem to cause anything else to happen). Another possibility is to require more or specific wheel events.

I set player type to iPod 5G because that’s all I have, but I expect this problem also exists on other clickwheel iPods. This problem exists on r20079 and r20033.

Over the past month? the radio menu has been disappearing. When I reinstall the menu comes back and the radio works and the debug screen shows the radio.

When it re-initializes the DB, the radio disappears and the debug screen said that there's is no hardware.

If I manually deleted the DB files, the radio comes back…

A few other people on anythingbutipod forum have mentioned the same issue.

10590BugsPluginsVery LowAliasing when playing MIDI files on iPod 5G2009-09-06kzuse222012-05-163 Task Description

Starting from the daily build from mid August (can’t exactly say when, because I don’t play MIDIs so often), the MIDI playback on my iPod 5G 30GB sounds distorted, especially the Piano sample.

It sounds as if the higher frequencies are chopped of and instead replaced by “alias frequencies”. Maybe something has been messed up in the mixing routine concerning decimation filter / interpolation.

I am using the original patchset provided here at rockbox.org.

Maybe somebody could check this - thank you!

Keep up the great work!

11907BugsDriversVery LowAnnoying flash memory access noise with Sansa Clip+2011-01-26Gugel Bod212014-09-2812 Task Description

Problem found in versions r29044-110113 to r29143-110126. I could not test 3.7.1, because it did not recognize my 16 GB Transcend flash card (fixed in above versions).

At the beginning of tracks and during rebuffering of longer tracks there is a short humming sound (like a bumblebee) mixed with a fast sequence of random high frequency tones. The sound differs as a function of data format and content. It is very homogeneous with WAV tracks (only humming) and different with lossy and lossless codecs. The same file encoded with FLAC and AAC leads to different short distortions. It is only audible for tracks with initial silence or very dynamic content, for example classical music with quiet passages or audio books. With sensitive headphones, this can be quite annoying.

The original firmware does not show this behavior!

It only happens while reading from the SD card, not from the internal storage.

Initially I thought this might be a CPU throttling issue. But now I think it might also be related to the controller driver.

There is a thread on Hydrogenaudio with independent confirmations of the issue:

http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=86306

If I can provide any additional information to help, please let me know.

10156BugsLCDVery LowLCD sleep can theoretically happen after the backlight ...2009-04-21Boris Gjenero202009-04-253 Task Description

If LCD_SLEEP is put on the backlight queue immediatly after BACKLIGHT_ON, the LCD will go to sleep immediately after the backlight turns on. On the 5G iPod, the next backlight_on() call will wake it, but on some other targets it might not wake again.

For example, consider the following sequence of events:
1) backlight_on() is called, putting BACKLIGHT_ON on the queue
2) The LCD sleep timeout from the previous backlight shutoff puts LCD_SLEEP on the queue
3) BACKLIGHT_ON is received and the backlight is turned on. The call of backlight_lcd_sleep_countdown(false) does nothing about the LCD_SLEEP on the queue.
5) The LCD_SLEEP is received, putting the LCD to sleep again.

This patch causes LCD_SLEEP to be ignored by backlight_thread() when the backlight is on. It also removes a workaround from 5G iPod LCD sleep code.

This issue is theoretical and very improbable. I am not able to trigger this bug in r20774.

11915BugsDriversVery LowBackground noise with Sansa ClipV22011-01-31sideral192012-10-168 Task Description

[EDIT: Attached patch for experimenting with AS3543 settings.]

When playing back audio on a Sansa ClipV2 player, there is a regular background noise that’s audible with sensitive headphones and that’s quite annoying during quite music passages. The background noise is a hissing sound that repeats about 4 times per second. The noise can be heard when there is no disk activity and even at very low volume or when playback is muted. It stops as soon as audio is paused.

The noise is not present in the original firmware (OF).

This is a long-known issue, but hasn’t been formally tracked before. It is related to FS#11907, but different in that the background noise is present when there’s no disk (SD) activity. However, I did have the impression that disk activity intensifies the noise.

This item serves to collect the various approaches people have tried to eliminate the noise, and ideas for future exploration.

I ran a series of experiments on the assumption that the audio hardware is misconfigured is some way. I worked through various settings of the AS3543 component based on its datasheet. Here is what I have tried; but nothing helped to eliminate the noise:

* Higher-quality audio settings as proposed in  FS#11304  (AUDIOSET2_HPH_QUALITY_HIGH,
Disabled DAC gain control
Bypassed mixer and disabled mixer gain control (HPH_OUT_R_HP_OUT_DAC, AUDIOSET2_AGC_off,
Mute SDI data
Enable and control DAC attenuation
Disable common mode buffer (phantom ground)
Disabled various unused mixer components (AUDIOSET3_MICMIX_off, AUDIOSET3_ADCMIX_off,
Used external clock source for DAC
Enable headphone detection
Resetting all reserved audio registers to 0

[EDIT: I have attached a patch that allows experimenting with these settings by uncommenting the relevant source lines at compile time or extending the provided debug function to toggle the setting at run time.]

Possible next steps (suggested by various people on IRC):

* As the noise is not present on the other AMSv2 targets (Clip+, FuzeV2), a dump of the AS3543 settings (as3514_regs[] array) on these targets would be helpful. I have attached a patch that adds a debug-menu function for doing this (needs a logf build).

* Someone with a JTAG could read the AS3543 configuration set by the OF.

* The issue could be unrelated to the AS3543; it could be a power-management or frequency-scaling issue.

Also attached: A dump of as3514_regs[] (logf.txt; all values in
I’ve removed the patch to dump these settings; see a later comment in this task for a more up-to-date patch to do this.]

Other ideas?

13108BugsMusic playbackVery LowRandom crashes when playing music2017-03-16somedude162017-12-16 Task Description

For a couple of months my Sansa Fuze v2 has been crashing randomly when playing music. Most of the time I just get a white screen with an error message. The last message I got was :

'undefined instruction at 0006DC8C'

(I think that last number varies at each crash)

This didn't happen with v3.13, but it's been happening with every daily build I've tested IIRC.

It doesn't happen very often so it's hard to reproduce. I listen to music in public transports about twice a day and this happens not more than once a week. It seems to happen more often when the battery is low (less than 10%). It generally happens early in a playback session, when the first or second track is played.

Sometimes I don't get a white screen, but the program freezes and some parts of the interface are surrounded with white frames. I don't know if it's the same bug or if it's unrelated.

Note that I'm always listening to music on a microSD card, and I haven't tried on the main memory.

PS: I chose "Sansa Fuze+" in the OS list because I couldn't find Sansa Fuse v2.

9822BugsPlaylistsVery LowRB sometimes forgets where it is in a playlist and that...2009-01-23Jeff Nemic152009-04-161 Task Description

Sometimes when I shut my unit off and then turn it on again and resume playback, RB resumes from a different place than where it left off, and even though when I resume shuffle is on (as indicated by its icon), it isn’t. It’ll play the current track, then the next track in the playlist (which in my case is in order by track number, so it’ll play the next track on the album), and so on.

If I turn shuffle off and then on again, shuffle works correctly again.

I’m using a build from January 19 (19800-090119) on an Archos Recorder. I
noticed this bug occurring in the 3.1 build as well.

It seems to happen randomly – I can’t figure out anything specifically that I can do to always make it happen.

9954BugsRemoteVery LowiAudio X5L remote erratic starting with build from 2009...2009-02-25Chris Miller152011-09-282 Task Description

I have been using Rockbox for almost 2 years now on my X5L together with the remote and I have frequently updated to the current version, so I am familiar with how it works.

I have noticed that after updating to version 20090221, my X5’s remote’s LCD behaves erratically (strange lines being displayed all over, vertically shaky image) right after booting Rockbox, then the display turns off completely after a few seconds. Strangely though, the controls still work and the blue display light comes on when working the controls, but the display is turned off (there is nothing being displayed, as if the player were turned off). If I unplug and reconnect the remote, the remote’s LCD comes on, but soon turns off again. The X5’s main LCD is working just fine.

I thought that my remote was dying on me, but decided to check if it was somehow related to the development of Rockbox. I reverted back one build after another and found that the last build that works OK for my remote is 20090210. So, in all the builds starting with 20090211 (I have thoroughly checked all from 20090211 to 20090225), the remote is practically unusable. I looked at the changes done on that day (http://www.rockbox.org/daily/changelogs/changes-20090211.html), but could not single out the probable cause.

Great software, anyway!

12076BugsDatabaseVery LowAutoresume feature can start from wrong offset due to r...2011-04-19Rob Walker152011-08-082 Task Description

I've found a problem with the new autoresume feature in 3.8. I use it when listening to podcasts and sometimes find that it resumes from near the end of a new episode - e.g. on a 30 minute podcast it will resume from 28 or 29 minutes - usually about the place where a previous epidsode finished and I skipped past the end credits.

What I think is happening is that there is some code in the database that tries to resurrect the runtime statistics for files that have been deleted and then restored - as the last offset is in this data, it is reusing the last offset from an old episode.

I've put some more logf()s in tagcache.c in build_numeric_indices(). I can see that if the filenames don't match (line 2306) it then tries to match any 2 tags out of the 3: artist, album or title. For the podcasts, the artist and album are always the same (i.e. the producer and which one of their podcasts it is), but the title is different (i.e. "Episode 100", "Episode 101", etc). So if I've listened to Episode 100 and then deleted the file, and then add Episode 102 to the player, it matches the artist and album and so resurrects the wrong data from Episode 100.

I've disabled the resurrection based on tags (just commented it out) and the problem seems to have gone away. A better fix would be to ensure that all 3 tags or matched or to ensure that title is one of the matched tags

9778BugsBootloaderVery LowSingle Mode Bootloader fails reboot on updated Gigabeat...2009-01-10Davide142011-04-11 Task Description

I used the official toshiba updater to get an “original” fresh install on my beast and then attempted to run through the install procedure for a single boot rockbox install. After a (seemingly) sucessful install I’d end up in recover mode after any reboot.

Fatal error when attempting to install nk.bin (rockbox only bootloader) using sendfirm in Windows to an updated (v1.2) Gigabeat S player.

After install of both bootloader and rockbox the Gigabeat S, once rebooted, goes into recovery mode (toshiba) and requires an update/restore. This is the Number 3 Triangle.

Notes:
Gigabeat was first updated using the official toshiba MESV12US updater. “gbs_update_1_2_us.exe”

Using SVN revision 19741 to compile nk.bin under WinXP and Cygwin.
Using MTP.zip of 7/4/2008 found on the wiki to send over the bootloader.

I suspect most devs updated their bootloaders using the sendfirm utility *before/without* updating the entire player with the updater utility from toshiba. Thus they started from a v1.1 OF and never updated any part of that.

Maybe the updater changes something in the bootcode. I don’t know.

10614BugsMusic playbackVery LowDeleting files in USB mode can confuse resume playback/...2009-09-23Alex Bennee142010-04-09 Task Description

Steps to reproduce:

1. Start listening to a series of podcasts, say 1-5
2. After listening to >1 plug player into computer during playback of subsequent podcast
3. Delete the podcasts you have already listened to (not what your currently listening to)
4. Eject/Unplug player from computer
5. Attempt to resume playback

This fails for both resume and Recent Bookmarks functionality. I assume this is somehow tied in with playlist support as files from the playlist have been deleted.

Where does Recent Bookmarks keep it's information? Should the bookmark also keep the individual file referenced so it can resume in this case?

Tested on R21184M-090604

Will test on latest version once my main machine is back on internet.

11139BugsMusic playbackVery Lowmusic pause on buffer refill - FS#10919 not completely ...2010-03-23Ronald Malbosc142010-05-21 Task Description

Hi,

I think that the problem reported on  FS#10919  is still here, or at least not completely solved.

12208BugsCodecsVery LowSansa Clip v2 FLAC playback skips regularly2011-07-28Peter King142019-08-041 Task Description

I am reopening  FS#11501  - Sansa Clip v2 FLAC playback skips regularly, which was closed because a sample file was not provided. I didn't think this was necessary because I stated it happened regularly with just about any file.

I am currently on build 30217. It skipped for me last night on this track:
http://www.archive.org/download/johnbutlertrio2011-07-24.lsdII.flac16/johnbutlertrio2011-07-24_lsdII_t07.flac

I cannot attach the track to this ticket because it is larger than 2mb.

Again, it is nothing inherent in that track: a second playthrough did not skip. That 16-bit/44.1khz track was generated with FLAC 1.2.1b using normal procedures.

This problem has occurred for any build I've ever tried on a clip v2 player.

Here is my original problem statement:

Build 27566 (and all previous builds), Sansa Clip v2.

playback of 16-bit/44khz FLAC format regularly will skip ahead to next track.

in a 60 minute playback session, it'll probably happen 2-3 times. this is not due to a defect in the FLAC files. it happens with any FLAC set I attempt.

this does not happen with the Clip v1 on the same build number.

this is my first bug submitted. I searched for duplicate reports but didn't find anything.

thank you!

I downloaded some AAC files from the bbc, using the get-iplayer utility. The files play just fine on the computer, but on my rockboxed Clip+, they seem to freeze up the player entirely. I have to hold the power button for a long time to reset it. I just tried updating to rockbox 3.9, but I'm not seeing any difference with the new firmware.

When I play the file in mplayer, it gives the following info:

Selected audio codec: [faad] afm: faad (FAAD AAC (MPEG-2/MPEG-4 Audio))

I uploaded one of the broken files to my server at though it's a large file - about 30 megs. This is an entire radio broadcast. http://www.redowl.ca/files/BBC_Proms_-_2011_Proms_Chamber_Music_1._PCM_01_-_Bachs_Goldberg_Variations_b012llr2_default.m4a

All the m4a files I've downloaded seem to be broken like this though.

Any idea why these files aren't working? Is there anything I can do, short of transcoding them to another format?

12755BugsMusic playbackVery LowSansa Clip Zip has too many problems with lossless file...2012-09-24Peppe Weapon142012-12-18 Task Description

Sansa Clip Zip has big problems with Lossless files. BIG.

1) Flacs skips randomly, at every encoding level (5 or 8 it's the same) and it's impossible to reproduce this issue when I want. It skips to the next track randomly
2) Ape files stops to reproducing and makes a really big noise, this after 30 sec. or 3 min… or nothing at all.
3) Wavpack files, sometimes, stucks for 0.5 seconds and then, it continues to play. It happens to Fast encoding, or Normal encoding, it's the same.
4) AAC files make little noises and, sometimes, crash Rockbox.

Flac and APE problems, I'm sure, occurs from ages, I bought Clip Zip months ago and these problem occurred for every build and ofr every Rockbox release.

I don't think that my player's broken. These problems were previously posted by other people.

I think that the testing of builds were made too hastily, there are too many problems with lossless files. I can understand APE that requires an expensive decoding, but FLAC files couldn't have these problems :(

When I touch a line-item , the system sometimes don't react or the line selector just "twinkle".

My conjecture:
It has somethin to do with the new "kinetic-scroll"-feature, because after a little kinetic-scroll the touch become precise.

Been using Rockbox for years, so it was really obvious when things got messed up somewhere in 3.12~3.13. In a nutshell, with this release, in a 1000+ playlist, I’m listening to the same songs over and over again when shuffle is on. I know that the folks that added recording functions to the PP targets only did it as a proof-of-concept, which rteally works well already. I am curious if anyone has looked into the bizarre noise that is generated on the right channel, I have tested this on two different 4g grayscale ipods and on 5.5g ipod. The noise level is lower in the 5.5g than the 4g's. I have attatched a png of jamin running a "silent" recording (no mic connected) and the wavpack file. I amplified the sound to get it to register higher on my spectrum analyzer.

After releasing hold after several minutes of playback with hold enabled, the backlight flickers on and off, if the following settings are enabled:

I’m using revision 29572 of android port. Host system is Samsung Galaxy 3 i5800, with 240×400 resolution display, with version 2.2 (Froyo) of Android.

The problem is as follows. When trying to start playback of OGG or SPX files, the playback does not start occasionally (the change is maybe less than 20% to have playback). By rewinding randomly it is possible to get it start playback. The same behaviour occurs when starting from bookmarks and from file explorer. The problem occurs with default config file.

Tried with MP3 and had the same problem. The problem may be with other codecs as well but I have not tried it so extensively.

12129BugsDatabaseVery LowDuplicate database entries2011-05-25bug122011-08-225 Task Description

I don't know whenever it happens with other versions or not, all I got is Sansa Clipv1 to test with.
My configuration is Initialize once and auto update working.

It seems like the database items got duplicated for unknown reason. I seem to have up to 7 entry's of the same item inside the database. I am not sure what causes it, but that is what I've noticed.
[At first I thought it's a shuffle bug 'till I was going to debug it only to find the database is full of clones]

9957BugsUser InterfaceVery LowUSB connection not made when action_userabort() is used2009-02-26Jonas Häggqvist112009-10-272 Task Description

Using a bootloader from  FS#9955 , a USB connection is not made if Start Screen is set to WPS, and the user boots Rockbox by inserting a USB cable.

This is possibly also true for other values of Start Screen.

Tested on e280, but I expect it’ll likely be the case on other PP targets with USB

11877BugsOperating System/DriversVery LowFilesystem corruption after entering USB mode2011-01-14sideral112011-04-182 Task Description

Various users on IRC recently reported cases of filesystem corruption. I have seen them as well, especially when using USB mode (I'm using a Sansa ClipV2, USB-enabled through  FS#11664 ).

One strangeness I've experienced is that when my system has detected filesystem corruption, it is often enough to remove the player from USB and then replug it, without repairing the filesystem and without rebooting Rockbox; on the next USB mount, the filesystem is clean. This might indicate that some buffer is flushed too late for the USB host to see.

[EDIT: Removed previously attached patch, which is now tracked separately as FS#11883.]

12639BugsThemesVery LowCertain themes cause the WPS to not load properly and U...2012-04-08Ludovic Jacques112013-08-152 Task Description

Both issues seem to appear with any version of my theme and with any build.
Let's try it with the latest version 1.30 of my theme (in attachment but also here: http://themes.rockbox.org/index.php?themeid=1585 ) and a recent build (I use version: 0c4bd3a-120406)

-Theme loading

When you load the theme for the 1st time, the WPS will never load properly (failsafe). The workaround is to turn off the device and turn it on again and then the WPS will always load properly until you reload the theme for some reasons (trying another theme and revert back to mine etc).
I tried both with the full theme version and this "light" version of WPS: http://pastie.org/3747546

-USB connection (tested on Windows 7, with or without a microSD, and there isn't such an issue with the other themes)

If I plug the USB cable while the player is on or off, it will almost never mount properly.
Usually the USB screen appears on my SBS, the computer recognizes a USB device is connected but either nothing appears in "my computer" or the device appears but is not accessible. When I unplug the USB cable, the Zip gets stuck on the USB screen and only reset can turn it off.
Sometimes it even displays some erros like that when plugging the USB cable: "data abort at 30FSR 0x8 (domain 0, fault address 0x964176 bt pc: 0x3006AC3 bt end" , sometimes it doesn't display the USB on SBS but gets stuck on the main menu.
And rarely in the same conditions it also mounts properly…

Like for WPS, I made a "light" version of SBS without the status bar and that way the Zip seems to mount and unmout properly every time!
http://pastie.org/private/cauhxelaip7hrpqpcwdbxw So maybe a tag in the status bar causes the issue with USB connection?

12864BugsMusic playbackVery LowAutomatic Resume behavior inconsistent on 3.132013-05-24Michael Bauminger112013-11-18 Task Description

This may be all players; I have only had experience with the Sansa Clip+ and Clip Zip. On version 3.13 the Automatic Resume feature works inconsistently, especially on the 2nd+ file of a playlist.

In version 3.11.2, the feature worked correctly on my Clip+. If I paused the player and the player turned off due to the timeout, when I turned the player back on and pressed the “Home” button or “Resume Playback”, the entire playlist would be back in place and playback would resume at the spot I paused. If I was 30 seconds into the third file in a playlist, playback would resume at that point. When that file finished, the next file in the playlist would start. Pressing “Previous” or “Next” would play the previous or next file in the playlist.

In version 3.13, this feature does not always work correctly. In fact, it rarely works correctly when playing a file that is not the first file in a playlist. Some times it works fine. Most times when I try to resume playback, it instead plays the beginning of the first track in the playlist. Some times when that happens, if I manually navigate to the track I was in when I paused, it will resume that track from the correct position rather than starting it over from the beginning.

This behavior is seriously agitating. I use my player to listen to multi-hour podcasts broken into separate files for each hour. If I get a phone call and pause my player I expect my player to automatically shut itself off after a few minutes, and it does. When I start the player again, I want to be able to pick up just where I left off. On versions prior to this, I could. In 3.13 it does not work 9 out of 10 times.

9775BugsMusic playbackVery LowPremature and multiple storage_sleep() in buffering.c2009-01-10Boris Gjenero102011-11-111 Task Description

While examining disk performance with  FS#9708 , I found one album where the disk stayed spinning with no activity for 5 s longer when using PIO. This is repeatable with that particular album. With the downloaded r19739-090109 build, this did not happen with the default settings but it started happening as soon as I enabled dircache. Prolonging the disk timeout prolongs the extra sleeping time.

Experimentation with shows that the storage_sleep() part of fill_buffer() (in apps/buffering.c) is executed early in the buffering and it is not executed at the end. With another album where spindown happens properly, ata_sleep() is called twice. Note that ata_sleep() just sets last_disk_activity, and sleep happens over half a second later if there is no disk activity during that period and last_user_activity has timed out.

I think this is a race condition based on how dircache and transfer rates change things. I wonder if it is related to  FS#9541 .

The data mentioned is located at http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pkeRcfM0sg949P3a5EYXtew and the delayed spindown is seen in the EP7 PIO test. In that data, also note how sectors written are 5, 10 or 15, with differences between different tests with the same album.

I have a 30GB 5th generation iPod, but I expect this issue affects all SW-codec players.

When listing to a mp3 for some time there starts a massive random noise in the background. It will continue for some time when pausing or stopping playback and will also continue when starting another track.
I’ve noticed this when listening to a random list of mp3s of various sources and using speedup with 225% or 250%.

At the moment I’m using ee758c5 with my clip+.

12958BugsMusic playbackVery Lowdata abort crash when toggling crossfeed from quickscre...2014-03-06alexbobp102014-03-18 Task Description

Using release 3.13 on the clip zip, if I were to put the main crossfeed setting on the right button of the quickscreen, it would cycle through to custom but then stop. If I use the left button of the quickscreen, then after custom there is a data abort crash.

Using build c64b59f-140304, both the left and right quickscreen buttons work to cycle through all 3 settings for crossfeed, but I can still trigger the crash if I use the left button. It seems to be sporadic and timing dependent, because if I click through the options quickly it works fine, but if I slow down and hold the buttons for longer at a time then it will eventually trigger.

Here is a picture of the crash: http://i.imgur.com/wS1CqVr.jpg The text is:

7464BugsFM TunerVery LowSmall weaknesses in FM-radio on iAudio X52007-07-21Davy Kager92007-11-03 Task Description

I'm using the newest build of Rockbox (2007-07-21) with an iAudio X5 20 GB and I have my tuner set to the European region. I encounter two little flaws in the FM-radio. I think they partially have to do with the player's hardware, but maybe Rockbox can improve the quality a bit.

1. The player is really sensitive to movement. The signal strength differs with every meter that you take the player with you. On top of that, most stations sound like they're not correctly tuned, but I can't get them any better. Maybe Rockbox could be more accurate in frequency selection? (Like 101.100, 101.125, 101.150.) I can get these stations quite well on my home radio. I don't expect the same quality from such a small device, but some finetuning would be great. The only problem is that it would take a while to scroll through the frequencies, but once set it'd be fine.
2. (I assume this is very hardware related.) The radio signal may change between stereo and mono. I have it set to stereo, but sometimes it just picks mono. I guess this is because of the hardware, since it is place related. I also didn't find any potential bugs in the source code.

What are your thoughts on this?

Oh, and keep up this good work! I really enjoy Rockbox!

8598BugsRecordingVery LowFM Recording disk thrashing2008-02-12g92008-02-122 Task Description

When recording, as file size reaches 25.2MB and again at 52.4MB respectively, disk thrashing noise drowns out the recording for about 2 minutes.
This occurs at about 27.5 minutes if recording as mp3.
And about 5.25 minutes if recording as wav.

I am assuming that Rockbox is filling a cache and then dumping the file to disk all at once.

I would expect it to write quietly. Even if it where to write on the fly, the noise would be reduced to short bursts. 2 minutes of interruption is just not acceptable. I missed out on important information during those 2 minute periods.

How can we eliminate write noise altogether? Or at least in the recording itself.

Select ‘FM Radio’ Choose your station.
Then from the menu select ‘Recording’ Press ‘play’ or ‘Rec’ to begin recording.
Wait for file size to reach about 28MB. Then stop.

I can also provide recordings if necessary.

*note: I also had the USB cord attached to give better FM reception.
tested on e260 & e280
Rockbox Version: r15988-080102

Thanks

This is a recurring problem with this target it seems. With 3.1 installed and resume playback on start up enabled, playback hangs and skips badly while the hard drive is being scanned during start up.

The same behavior occurs when resume on start up is disabled, but playback is resumed by the user during the hard drive scan.

10874BugsMusic playbackVery Lowno track will play after playing a deleted, semi-buffer...2009-12-24Johannes Linke92012-05-031 Task Description

to reproduce:

1. start a big (20mb or more) track. delete it immidiately after starting it.
2. let the song play until it stops. i guess it stops at the end of the buffer. as an alternative you can ff to the end of the track (which shouldn't be buffered)
3. now you're not able to play any track. if you select a new one from the file browser or database, the wps will show up, but nothing is played and the progress bar won't progress. ff and rw also don 't work. only rebooting helps. shutting down needs really long (~15s).

if you delete a fully buffered song, everything works as expected (well, the song continues till the end, and the next song starts. some devs call that "expected" :D ).

tested with r24091 and an e200, although i guess that the bug is target independent and occurs in the last few thousand revisions :)

When using an image in a theme it shows ugly gradients/dithering, as if it was only 16 bit. When the same image however is used as backdrop (%X tag, instead of ‘regular’ %xl and %xd), it looks smooth and 24 bit.

Attached image shows the issue. Top half shows what Rockbox does when the image is loaded via %xl and %xd. Bottom half shows how the image should look like (and how it does indeed look when it’s used as a %X backdrop).

Tested on a Cowon D2 simulator and on an Android device running RaaA.
